Sammie
To collect songs that are in some way asexual, or can be seen as such. If not clear at first, explain what's asexual about it. My first one: Words by the Bee Gees It expresses so well the difficulty I felt trying to show my last sexual boyfriend how much I cared for him. He just didn't get that I loved him even though I didn't want him sexually. You think that I don't even mean a single word I say. It's only words, and words are all I have, to take your heart away

cijay
I think just about every song, unless it actually starts talking about gettin' jiggy with it is an asexual song because I don't pick up any sexual innuendos.
Shockwave
Hey, hey Julia, you're acting so peculiar I know I'd never fool you in a million years A horn section you resemble and your figure makes me tremble And I sure would like to handle whats between your ears You're a temptation to a man I could not resist you and I won't if I can You're so unexpected and whatever you injected made me feel how I felt when I sang Hey, hey Julia you're acting so peculiar I know I'd never fool you in a million years You're a strain on my eyeses and you're full of surprises Love materializes soon as you come near. Theres a sensation you create, Robs me of my sleep and I've forgotten the date My head started spinning soon as you started singing And like a fish I just rose to the bait. Hey, hey Julia with your crazy sense of humor You turn fact into rumor soon as you come near A horn section you resemble and your figure makes me tremble And I sure would like to handle whats between your ears You're a temptation to a man I could not resist you and I won't if I can. You're so unexpected and whatever you injected made me feel how I felt when I sang Julia, you're a danger just like giving sweets to strangers And I think its time I took you in hand. Sammie
not really getting the asexual vibe on that one... your figure makes me tremble? You're a temptation to a man? Liking the Robert Palmer songs though. How about 'Didn't mean to turn you on. When I took you out I knew what you were all about But when I did I didn't mean to turn you on Now I bring you home You tell me the night's not enough for you I'm sorry, baby I didn't mean to turn you on Woah, baby, I didn't mean to turn you on You read me wrong I wasn't tryin' to lead you on Not like you think I didn't mean to turn you on I know you Expected a one-night-stand when I refused I knew you wouldn't understand I'm sorry, baby I didn't mean to turn you on I told you twice I was only tryin' to be nice Only tryin' to be nice Oh, I didn't mean to turn you on Hey, now why should I Feel guilty 'cause I won't give Guilty 'cause I won't give in I didn't mean to turn you on Woah, baby, I didn't mean to turn you on When I took you out I knew what you were all about But when I did I didn't mean to turn you on Woah, baby, I didn't mean to turn you on
Sammie
The Pixel Monk pointed out this one to me: Love in the library By: jimmy buffett, mac mcanally On the corner of government and bay avenue The old doomsday fanatic wore a crown of kudzu Sirens were wailing in the gulf coastal heat And it seemed like the whole world was in forced retreat Paid no attention, revolved through the door Past the newspaper racks on the worn marble floor Near civil war history my heart skipped a beat She was standing in fiction stretched high on bare feet Chorus: Love in the library Quiet and cool Love in the library There are no rules Surrounded by stories Surreal and sublime I fell in love in the library Once upon a time I was the pirate, she was the queen Sir francis and elizabeth, the best theres ever been Then she strolled past my table and stopped at the stairs Then sent me a smile as she reached for flaubert Chorus: Love in the library Quiet and cool Love in the library There are no rules Surrounded by stories Surreal and sublime I fell in love in the library Once upon a time She gathered her books, walked while she read Words never spoken, but so much was said You can read all you want into this rendezvous But its safer than most things that lovers can do Well stories have endings, fantasies fade And the guard by the door starts drawing the shade So write your own ending and hope it comes true For the lovers and strangers on bay avenue Chorus: Love in the library Quiet and cool Love in the library There are no rules Surrounded by stories Surreal and sublime I fell in love in the library Once upon a time Surrounded by stories Surreal and sublime I fell in love in the library Once upon a time
LaLunaVerde
Sleeping Beauty There's a rose sealed away in the winter Fast asleep through the wind and rain and cold Ever waiting for someone to wake her One who'll see that she's no one's to hold Maybe she is a spell never broken Little girl from a world in-between Each tomorrow a promise unspoken And every today like a dream in a dream She's still sleeping She's still dreaming She's still dreaming She is Love - oh but never a Lover Shrinks away from the touch of his hand From kisses and candles that stain her affection Her Love is a place he will not understand There's a child inside made of flowers and stars Lost in whispers and wings and the beauty of Innocence cradled in moments eternal Snow undisturbed in the glow of the morning light And she's still sleeping She's still dreaming Sleeping beauty And she's still flying She's still singing Can you hear her? There is grace in the red of her twilight There is truth in her darkness ahead Treasure held in her eyes never open Melody in her words never said And she's still sleeping She's still dreaming She's still dreaming -Helen Trevillion She's a romantic asexual herself and intended this song to be an "asexual" interpretation of sleeping beauty, which is sometimes thought of as a story about sexual awakening. endplusone
"How Soon is Now?" by The Smiths I am the son and the heir Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar I am the son and heir Of nothing in particular You shut your mouth How can you say I go about things the wrong way I am Human and I need to be loved Just like everybody else does I am the son and the heir Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar I am the son and the heir Of nothing in particular You shut your mouth How can you say I go about things the wrong way I am Human and I need to be loved Just like everybody else does There's a club, if you'd like to go You could meet somebody who really loves you So you go, and you stand on your own And you leave on your own And you go home And you cry And you want to die When you say it's gonna happen now, Well, when exactly do you mean? See I've already waited too long And all my hope is gone I am Human And I need to be loved Just like everybody else does
itsnotlucky
I second that Smiths nomination, and propose "A Kiss is not a Contract" by the Flight of the Conchords. Just because we've been playin' tonsil hockey doesn't mean you get to score the goal that's in my Jockeys.
Jordan
Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve. It's a song about psychological suffering and no sex included.

Sammie
I LOVE the sleeping beauty song. Jazmin made a topic about this too: http://www.asexuality.org/en/index.php?sho...mp;#entry864030 and suggested Samantha Ronson's "Built this way". Did you ever feel like you wanna be Someone else for just one day Did you ever feel like you wanna see Through another pair of eyes Did you ever think I might wanna be with anyone else for just one day Did you ever really think of me when I walked away The look, the dunks and the bottle of Jack the smokes the slouch and my eyes down you think you know what you think you'll find you think you'll figure me out tonight but you'll never know what I won't share coz I don't care, no I don't care you think you'll figure me out tonight but I don't care And I wonder, if I'm just built this way coz every man that I know makes me feel like I'm to blame when it's over, me and my selfish ways go back to start again go back to start again Did you ever feel like you should have said something smarter at the time Did you ever feel like you should have kept it all to yourself Did you ever think it might be your fault I never promise anymore Did you ever think it might not be me No it was always me The look, the dunks and the bottle of Jack the smokes the slouch and my eyes down you think you know what you think you'll find you think you'll figure me out tonight but you'll never know what I won't share coz I don't care, no I don't care you think you'll figure me out tonight but I don't care And I wonder, if I'm just built this way coz every man that I know makes me feel like I'm to blame when it's over, me and my selfish ways go back to start again And I wonder, if I'm just built this way coz every man that I know makes me feel like I'm to blame when it's over, me and my selfish ways go back to start again go back to start again The look, the dunks and the bottle of Jack the smokes the slouch and my eyes down you think you know what you think you'll find you think you'll figure me out tonight but you'll never know what I won't share coz I don't care, no I don't care you think you'll figure me out tonight but I don't care And I wonder, if I'm just built this way coz every man that I know makes me feel like I'm to blame when it's over, me and my selfish ways go back to start again And I wonder, if I'm just built this way coz every man that I know makes me feel like I'm to blame when it's over, me and my selfish ways go back to start again go back to start again go back to start again
Ellers
I take it Closer by Nine Inch Nails wouldn't make the cut? ;-) Funny you mentioned Meatloaf...well I guess in this case Jim Steinman, since he was the one who wrote the song. I was listening to that song and a couple others the other day and thought the same thing :). Two out of Three Ain't Bad might qualify as "asexual" in a way.
Avoidant
Since someone mentioned the Smiths, there's also "Pretty Girls Make Graves." Upon the sand, upon the bay "There is a quick and easy way" you say Before you illustrate I'd rather state : "I'm not the man you think I am I'm not the man you think I am" And Sorrow's native son He will not smile for anyone And Pretty Girls Make Graves Oh ... End of the pier, end of the bay You tug my arm, and say : "Give in to lust, Give up to lust, oh heaven knows we'll Soon be dust ... " Oh, I'm not the man you think I am I'm not the man you think I am And Sorrow's native son He will not rise for anyone And Pretty Girls Make Graves Oh really ? Oh ... I could have been wild and I could have Been free But Nature played this trick on me She wants it Now And she will not wait But she's too rough And I'm too delicate Then, on the sand Another man, he takes her hand A smile lights up her stupid face (and well, it would) I lost my faith in Womanhood I lost my faith in Womanhood I lost my faith ... Oh ...

I remember that from when it was on her show in the 80s. (To this day when people talk about s&m I remember the line that goes "beat me on the bottom with a Woman's Weekly. lol)

Marvin
The Cure - Siamese Twins. It might seem an odd suggestion, given that it is somewhat more graphic than most of the current suggestions, but the entire song is basically an expression of disgust at the act itself. I can't think what's much more asexual than that. Well, more antisexual, anyway.

MetroChumpy
I Want To Hold Your Hand - The Beatles Oh yeah, I'll tell you something, I think you'll understand. When I'll say that something I want to hold your hand, I want to hold your hand, I want to hold your hand. Oh please, say to me You'll let me be your man And please, say to me You'll let me hold your hand. Now let me hold your hand, I want to hold your hand. And when I touch you I feel happy inside. It's such a feeling that my love I can't hide, I can't hide, I can't hide. Yeah, you've got that something, I think you'll understand. When I'll say that something I want to hold your hand, I want to hold your hand, I want to hold your hand. And when I touch you I feel happy inside. It's such a feeling that my love I can't hide, I can't hide, I can't hide. Yeh, you've got that something, I think you'll understand. When I'll feel that something I want to hold your hand, I want to hold your hand, I want to hold your hand.

Brienne
The guy in the song "One Night in Bangkok" sounds Asexual. The song is from Chess the musical, and from what I've heard the character is not asexual in the play. However, I like to imagine the guy is when I listen to the song. "I get my kicks above the waistline sunshine"---one of the best lines ever! :P Bangkok, Oriental setting And the city don't know that the city is getting The creme de la creme of the chess world in a Show with everything but Yul Brynner Time flies -- doesn't seem a minute Since the Tirolean spa had the chess boys in it All change -- don't you know that when you Play at this level there's no ordinary venue It's Iceland -- or the Philippines -- or Hastings -- or -- or this place! One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free You'll find a god in every golden cloister And if you're lucky then the god's a she I can feel an angel sliding up to me One town's very like another When your head's down over your pieces, brother It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pity To be looking at the board, not looking at the city Whaddya mean? Ya seen one crowded, polluted, stinking town -- Tea, girls, warm, sweet Some are set up in the Somerset Maugham suite Get Thai'd! You're talking to a tourist Whose every move's among the purest I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble Not much between despair and ecstasy One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble Can't be too careful with your company I can feel the devil walking next to me Siam's gonna be the witness To the ultimate test of cerebral fitness This grips me more than would a Muddy old river or reclining Buddha And thank God I'm only watching the game -- controlling it -- I don't see you guys rating The kind of mate I'm contemplating I'd let you watch, I would invite you But the queens we use would not excite you So you better go back to your bars, your temples, your massage parlours -- One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free You'll find a god in every golden cloister A little flesh, a little history I can feel an angel sliding up to me One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble Not much between despair and ecstasy One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble Can't be too careful with your company I can feel the devil walking next to me
