Body hair

Among other body things, this crossed my mind recently. How do we feel about body hair?

It is another cultural thing. I feel like in modern America we have this expectation. And personally, I don't mind body hair, and I would never tell anyone to shave, but I do have a preference bred in since childhood of shaved pits and legs - but I really couldn't comprehend someone expecting me to shave my legs regularly, which is just unfair. My ex occasionally didn't shave, and that was cool, but she was also raised to do it automatically and usually did. I would imagine that wearing skirts or shorts often would also be a lot of pressure.

The main thing to me is comfort. I generally trim pubic hair just because it is annoying. And from the experience and porn I've seen in my life, it is pretty acceptable to do whatever makes you most comfortable; people are ultimately rather accepting of their partners, but do have preferences.

So what do you think? No judgement, just curious. I can't even be bothered to shave my face closely.

I’m all about comfort. I’m super hairy for a ciswoman so it takes time to shave my legs and the stubble grows back by the end of the day. So I only occasionally shave my legs and pubic area. I prefer to be entirely shaven for comfort reasons (I find leg hair itchy and annoying) but it’s not practical. I usually wear long socks and leggings or jeans so this is a nonissue. I’m not personally comfortable having hairy legs in public or even at home with shorts or a dress because it makes me feel manly and I hate the feeling of leg hair. With long socks, I can’t feel it.

I shave my underarms every day and have to shave my face every day because I have polycystic ovaries which causes excess androgens.

I don’t give a flying hoot what anyone else does or doesn’t do with their hair.

The way this works is that feminity is being upkept while masculinity is the state of lacking standards except work out and don’t have acne. The whole body hair thing is just an add on to that whole structure. I hate it really because it’s like, I was never taught how to really take care of myself while the women are taught and expected to never relax on their appearance. We need to find that balancing middle to it all. Anyways, I’m a guy but I’m going to shave because I hate how my body hair feels against my jeans. Another thing, do what you want when it comes to body hair but please don’t be looking a mess. You need a balance to it all as stated earlier

I don't mind it, it's kinda neat to be fluffy 😺

But I'm generally very hostile to shaving since it's huge waste of time 😸

I wish that I wasn't made to shave my legs when I became a teenager. After shaving it so many times in the past the hair grows extra thick and dark. I hate shaving my legs and haven't done so for over a year. But because of how ugly the hair is I have to always wear jeans. If anyone knows a solution to this I would love to know, but I think it's most likely too late at this point.

On the flip side, I also can grow a beard and mustache and shave that everyday. I guess it makes me technically intersex since I have mostly female characteristics, but I find it really cool my body can do that. Someday I'll let it grow out a bit to see how long it can get lol

Don't shave at all, don't give a flying fuck what anyone else does as long as they clean the drain afterwards (I get very upset about hairy drains).

I shave even in the dead of winter. In fact if I could permanently remove all the hair on my body except the hair on my head, my eyebrows, and eyelashes I would.

I don’t care what other people do. I do find hairless people more attractive(even if they’re male), but it’s still none of my business what other people do.

I don't shave my legs. It takes too much time to do and no one sees them anyway. I do however shave my arms and face. I have hursutism, and started shaving my arms when I was around 12 because the hair was growing in so thick and I was embarrassed. I absolutely hate that I have to shave my face every day too.

Couldn't just go beardy? Or social pressure would be too much?

This discussion made me look at my legs, They look pretty hairless, but I can't remember when I shaved them last. One benefit of getting older, I guess--you start having less body hair.

I don't get some men's obsession with women shaving their pubic hair. That seems unhygienic to me, not to mention creepy.

I think the actual general feeling is more for moderately trimmed pubic hair than shaved. It seems like society cares a lot less in reality than the media images usually show, which is moderately encouraging.

I only shave my legs and underarms. During the seasons when I don’t wear shorts, I shave my legs once a week. During shorts season, it’s twice. I like them smooth. My armpits I shave because it’s more hygienic and they don’t smell as bad even if I forget to put on my deodorant or don’t use enough deodorant and it wears off. My husband also shaves his armpits for that reason.

It it is acceptable if a guy shaves his legs btw, especially if he’s in competitive sports like cycling and swimming to reduce hydro and aero-dynamic resistance.

I tried shaving my pubes once, but when they grew back OMG the Itchy and Scratchy Show!! 😖Never again.

So I only trim down there, especially when it’s close to getting my period. I hate when it dries and mats the hair. Gross. 😖😫

I shaved my arms once, but it didn’t feel natural so I just let them be afterwards. I like my hairy arms. Hooray for Slavic heritage!

I’m also unusual in that my head hair is chestnut brown, but my body hair is almost black. Maybe another Slavic trait(I’m one quarter Polish).

And, depending on the angle of the light, I look like I have a bit of a ‘stache. I’m not sure if this is recent or I’ve had it since my teens. I also have sideburns. Now those I’ve had since my teens. Once again, they’re only noticeable depending on the angle of the light.

Only reason I shave my underarms is because if I don't, sweating is a problem. Even winter doesn't help. As for legs, I only shave them during the warm months, and even then I often forget.

😂 This is exactly what happened to me! The whole thing just felt weird. I don't understand why people go to the trouble to wax/shave down there.

IKR?! And it’s sooooooo hard to resist the urge to scratch in public because “you’re a lady and ladies don’t do that in public”. Yet another gender based double standard. If guys can scratch in public, then women should too. I suppose it’s also “unladylike” to take a leak standing up too? Now to that I say, zero fucks given. It’s way more convenient! And liberating!

I really hate the feeling of hair on my face. I hate having a 5 o clock shadow too. I've considered trying laser hair removal but I've heard mixed things about term results. I guess it's something I might have to look into again .

My opinion is everyone should feel free to shave or trim or not according to their own desires.

Personally I don't like too much body hair on me, would prefer no facial hair other than eyebrows and lashes, but would like to have more hair on top of my head. I'm lucky that my body hair is mostly fine and fair, so that helps. I'd rather have to shave my legs than my face.

I'm with Gloomy. I prefer people to be hairless and would stop growing body hair if I could. Only time I don't shave regularly is the dead of winter and even then only my legs.

As for shaving pubic hair, I do so only enough so I don't have anything sticking out when I wear swimwear. But yeah, it was hella itchy and took a long time of consistently shaving it for that to go away. I just don't like the dark hairs sticking out with a bikini and otherwise wouldn't bother. It's tedious and when I cut myself by accident it's way worse than when I do so elsewhere.

I also don't know if I could date a guy with facial hair. Maybe a little and well groomed, but I'm not big on kissing someone with a beard or stubble. I know it's personal taste and I haven't dated anyone with well-groomed facial hair (yet).

I don't really care about other people (unless I'm dating them). Live and let live. I just don't like the feeling of body hair.

My husband does. Well, he trims the part above his penis but the rest he shaves. And I’m thankful for that because if I’m going down on him, it really kills the mood if I get hair in my mouth.😖

Oh funny, I was at a picnic with a bunch of aces today and noticed that most of the ones wearing shorts (who were all generally femme presenting) didn't shave their legs. I shave mine every week or two, and only because I want to feel smooth. I shave my armpits more for skin sensitivity reasons. My leg hair has thinned out a lot, so it's harder to notice when I don't shave.

My attitude is, of course, personal choice above any gender expectations. That being said, I appreciate the aesthetics of hairless male bodies along with the implication of eschewing gender. By no means do I think that's necessary or a better choice; it's just a way of expressing oneself, as it is with facial hair or head hair (including length, colour, etc).

I'm all for keeping carcass maintenance to a minimum. Can't really grow facial hair, so the bits that do grow get shown the door, but other than that... I see no point.

I'mTheDecoy

When I first started to develop body hair as a teen I was bullied by boys at school, so I started shaving.  That's the only reason I started - being body-shamed.  Later I just thought it was normal.  A few years ago I read some articles about paedophile-culture and it occurred to me that the society I lived in was punishing women for the way they naturally were - you have to hide and change everything or you are disgusting.  So I stopped shaving.  Now I am more and more comfortable with my enby self, I don't see why I should treat my afab body any differently to how I would if I was amab.  No more shaving, waxing, plucking or lightening.  However, I am still terrified of being body-shamed by others so I have to cover up my legs/bikini line/armpits at all times.  The only part of me I am comfortable with somehow is my eyebrows and lip hair, I just don't give a shit what people think of those any more.  Weird that i can't extend that to the rest of my body hair.

I shave my armpits, because like other people, I find them less smelly that way. I’ve gotten pretty lazy about the legs of recent. I go weeks without doing it in the winter. If nobody is seeing it, I’m not doing it. I’ve also gotten more lax in the summer. My legs haven’t been shaved since last week sometime. Although, I do like that smooth feeling you have for that day.

I've discussed my shaving 'down below' elsewhere. Trimming it for about 15 years now, shaving about three. It's for myself as the only person I know that will see me in that way is my nudist friend and others at the beach...

So much this ^

I fondly remember being young and not having to worry about hair - but then, thanks to some pretty premature maturation, from the age of eight I was subjected to a world of unwanted follicle invasions! And the worst part (in my opinion) is that nothing matches:

Head hair - black / grey.

Eyebrows / lashes - black / blonde.

Nose hair - brown.

Facial hair - black / grey / white / ginger.

Body - brown / blonde / transparent.

I tried shaving everything when I was 18-19, which just left me sore for a few days... and then furiously itchy. And then subject to all of the ingrowing hair. So now I just let everything do what it does (exception for daily removal of neck-beard) as I've stopped caring.

That goes for other people too, not that I generally subject myself to observing others. You do you, whatever.

There’s a Tubshroom for that now. Or one of those plastic lattice style covers.
