(SP)
there is a really cool song called 'your revolution' by sarah jones(beat by DJ Vadim)that i have come across, that mocks sexual bravado, especially in other hip-hop songs and culture itself....it helps to know other hip-hop songs and artists to get the full refernce of the often sarcastic quotes.....it's not exactly asexuality directly ... but sometimes it is cool to have the oversexualization in the culture be mocked.....the lyrics are here:(lines that are sung more than once are written only once)(INTRO-spoken)This goes out to all the women and men, from New York to London , and L.A to Tokyo, struggling to keep their self-respect in this climate of misogyny,money-worship, and mass production of hip-hop's illegitamate child hip-pop, and this especially goes out to Gil-Scott Heron, friend, living legend, and proto-rapper, who wrote 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, much respectYour revolution will not happen between these thighsWill not happen between these thighsThe real revolution ain't about bootie sizeThe Versaces you buysOr the Lexus you drivesAnd though we've lost Biggie SmallsMaybe your notorious revolutionWill never allow you to lace no lyrical douche in my bushYour revolution will not me killing me softly with FujeesYour revolution ain't gonna knock me up without no ringAnd produce little future M.C.'sBecause that revolution will not happen between these thighsYour revolution will not find me in the back seat of a jeepWith L.L. as hard as hell, you knowDoing it and doing and doing it well, you know,(sarcastic voive)Doing it and doing it and doing it well, you knowYour revolution will not be smacking it up, flippin it rubbing it downNor will it take you downtown or humping aroundBecause that revolution will not happen between these thighsYour revolution will no have me singingAin't no nigger like the one I gotYour revolution will not be you sending for me no drip drip V.D. shotYour revolution will not involve me(fake enthusiastic voice) or feeling your nature riseOr having you fantasizeBecause that revolution will not happen between these thighsNo no not between these thighsand, oh, ohMy Jamaican brother(fake Jamaican accent)Your revolution will not make you feel bombastic, and really fantasticAnd have you groping in the dark for that rubber wrapped in plasticUnh-unhYou will not be touching your lips to my triple dip ofFrench Vanilla, butter pecan, chocolate deluxeOr having Akinyele's dream, um humA six foot blow job machine, um humYou wanna subjugate your Queen, un-huhThink I'm gonna put it in my mouth just because youMade a few bucksPlease brother pleaseYour revolution will no be me tossing my weaveAnd making me believe I'm some caviar eating ghettoMafia clownOr me giving up my behindJust so I can get signedAnd maybe have somebody else write my rhymesI'm Sarah JonesNot Foxy BrownYou know I'm Sarah JonesNot Foxy BrownYour revolution makes me wonderWhere we could goIf we could drop the empty pursuit of props and the egoWe'd revolt back to our rootsUse little common sense on a quest to make loveDe la soul, no pretense, butYour revolution will not be you flexing your little sex and statusTo express what you feelYour revolution will not happen between these thighsWill not be you shakinAnd me, [fake yawn] faking between these thighsBecause the real revolution, that's right, I said the real revolutionYou know, I'm talking about the revolutionWhen it comesIt's gonna be realWhen it finally comesIt's gonna be realas an interesting side note, this song was banned in the USA, last year, not from sale, i guess, but from radio play...i think it was by the FCC or something very high up too, i don't know all my american organizations, but it was the one in charge of this type of stuff, they deemed it obscene, for "sexual refernces"(am not kidding) and backed up the ban with a massive fine for playing it, banning radio play will essentially kill a song's chances for any popularity, though i might concede it would be unlikely mainstream stations would have played this song that much , any station was banned.Sarah Jones later appealed, and i think she was rejected first, and then finally she got it overturned, by then it had been out for a while and stations usually like to play new songs, but at least it got overturnedhttp://www.airbubble.com/ram/yr_rvltn.ram listen to it here, if it works 2013 Mod Edit: DISCLAIMER: O haven't tried downloading, so I will not guarantee that the file is correct or virus-free, but at users' discretion, this seems to be an active link to listen to/download the song. Cate Perfect
I remember hearing about it when it was banned and thought 'Oh, right, I bet they'd play a song where the woman said she'd do any number of things to a guy, but if she asserts her right to say "no, thank you"...they ban her!' Can you say 'hypocritical misogynists', boys and girls. Totally unrelated, but sad nonetheless: someone asked me what the word 'misogynist' meant, she thought it was a person who gave massages. And this woman had to have been in her thirties. Cate
