I've never been to an asexual meetup. I'm not active on the Polish boards (although I have an account there), so even though I noticed there were threads about meetups in my area, I wouldn't decide to go out of the blue to meet with complete strangers. If I were active on the Polish boards, on the other hand, it could be different if I liked the people. Having said that, I don't socialise well with groups so I would probably just spend time sitting somewhere silently, only speaking when spoken to. (I know that from experience, I've been to meetups with people I know from a different (non-ace) forum and this is pretty much how it went, even though I've "known" some of those people for years  ). I definitely prefer 1-on-1 socialising. On a personal level I'm rather indifferent to the whole idea.

I haven't been to an asexual meet up because I'm still not out of the closet yet and I don't have a driver's license, so it would be pretty hard to get my parents to drive me there without telling them why... and even if it was close enough to walk, my parents wouldn't want me going out without me telling them where I'm going, so looks like I'll have to wait a few years.

Not yet. I was meant to be going to the Birmingham meet earlier this month but something more important came up that needed to be addressed. I'm definitely looking to go to some soon though, 'tis an excuse to get my introverted self out and about meeting people!

I've never been to a meetup. Mostly because the closest one is about 2 hours away :/

I like the idea of going to one and meeting other aces, but I probably won't end up talking to anyone and will sit in a corner by myself, silently watching everyone, though I will talk back if spoken too. I get really nervous and paranoid around crowds. I think it's the idea and prospect of going I like more then anything else.

That sounds like what I'd likely end up doing...

No to all of the following questions lol.

I really have no desire to meet other people here.

Also, i'm not even an ace. I like the idea but i'd never let you guys see my ugly mug.

Hahahahahahaha!!~

There's an odd vote for "yes" in the first question. The rest imply yes/no 28/60 but for the first it's 29/59. Either someone mis-voted....OR LIED.

Anyway....I've not attended to any meet-up nor met an AVENite (without knowing). I have little desire to do so but mostly what is discouraging me is I fear awkwardness, they're too far, I rather meet people I know well individually and I don't interact well with groups....especially groups of strangers.

We have them every month here in Melbourne. My first meet was in April or May last year, and I've been every month since (with the exception of January, as I was on holiday at the time). They're always really fun! Most people seem to find something in common, and we always pick something random to do like karaoke or board games or ice-skating. Next month we'll be going to Scienceworks :D

Sad to say, I misvoted in my own poll. So embarrassing. I meant to choose no, but somehow I chose yes and I didn't realize until after the fact >.<

I wish that I could correct it.

I haven't gone to a meetup that was arranged online, but it happened by chance that my university's LGBTQ group has a lot of asexuals in it, and enough to try and arrange one. Only one of them is an AVEN member though, and the others don't seem interested in joining.

I would like to but I don't have a car and the closest one is like an hour away so I highly doubt I could get anyone to take me to one.

I keep meaning to attend one. But doing so would require a bus trip and it's not always convenient.

I would really love to but there isn't one close to me! I'm dying to meet another ace and be face to face.

It was ok, but the only thing I really disliked about it was having to hear some of the women at the meetup inform each other about the guys they've met who are douches... yeah, this guy's a douche, oh, that guy's a douche... enough already!

I love the idea of a meetup, but have never been because there really aren't many aces in my area and I don't have a car to get anywhere easily (closest would be several hours drive). If I live somewhere in the future that hosts ace meetups, I'll totally go to one.

Honestly it would be a novelty to hang out with people who I can crack ace jokes with and not have to worry about explaining the whole concept of asexuality (and that sounds pretty awesome). Really though I just like meeting new people and talking to people I don't already know, so it's not like I'd go to a meetup solely because I know nobody's gonna be ogling me or looking for a hookup. I go to other parties and events where I don't know many people (non-aces) with a similar mentality to be honest.

I haven't attended any meet ups yet, but I would absolutely love to one day

I would really like to - I joined the website 'Meet Up' and thought that might be a good way to be more social but I just got a bunch of messages from guys who obviously used it as a dating site and it put me off, the one meet up I did go to was nice but I really did not feel like I fit in.

Maybe wearing a t shirt with an egg shaped vampire calling everyone Suckers on it didn't help though....

I'd really love to go to one, but I prefer being around people I already know a bit about. That's the main problem since most of the people I know are hours away or separated by an ocean :(

I recently made an account one that site myself.

Have joined one 'group' on there, but have not gone to any meetups yet.

Luckily no messages from guys or girls wanting dates LOL

Ah good luck with it Jay, there were some really nice events on there - but I just got all squicked out by the Zap Brannagenish 'hey I'm an alpha male and you must surely be on here to date someone such as myself!' messages.

I hope you find some fun events :)

I'd like to go to a meet one day, but the only place within travelling distance of me where they ever seem to happen is London, and I'm terrified of going to London on my own.

When I (eventually!) go to uni though I'll hopefully be close enough to meets that I'll be able to go! :D

Thanks!

The one group I joined is a hiking/outdoors type thing :) I do hope eventually there's a good/fun events on there (and at a time/place that works out for me)

The type of messages you got would be very of-putting to me :o :(

(I'm guessing in my case being a guy, I won't be bothered by people with such crap though? - atleast I hope not)

Hope you have better luck if you try that site again sometime

I've been to a couple. Great, as I find it hard to meet new people, or try new things these meets are broadening my horizons

Cool topic!

I have not been to a meetup.

Mainly I would prefer to meet with specific people that I have become friends with already online.

I feel like if I go to a meetup, the chances of me finding someone I can relate to will probably a little on the slim side.

But I'm sure many other people would really find people they can relate to at meetups. And who knows, there's a chance that I would really enjoy going to one as well at some point.

Personally though, I've made a lot of great friends on here, so I would like to meet them specifically rather than going on a whim and hoping to meet some people I can relate to.

( Very well made poll! Perfect amount of options available to choose from. Very well made )
