I got my smartphone (Galaxy S4) a few months ago and love it. I'm not huge on talking on the phone or texting, but I'm constantly using the various data features, like the Maps app, and it's primarily how I look at Facebook and other websites. The camera is "good enough" for most purposes.

FYI: Navfree is a free GPS app which doesn't need data to navigate --- look for Navfree USA for USA maps. This can save you data and great for navigation if data signal drops while driving. It relies on open source maps but is pretty accurate. You download the maps you need to the phone, so you can even use it overseas (download the maps on Wi-Fi before the trip). This app is for both iPhones and Android phones.

I can't answer the poll.

I have no (longer a) smartphone. - I believe they are useful but I am glad to need none myself.

I found nobody to teach me how to check email at McD's hotspot when I had a phone and the user interface seemed too complex for my taste.

I don't want a smartphone because I do pretty fine without any cellphone. - Living 10mls from work I could always walk home in a worst case. There is internet access at work and obviously here at home too.

I don't see much use in paying a lot of money (assuming I'll live 30 more years) for the whymsical Internet access these buggers offer. And if I want to participate in online activities I prefer at least a 10" Webbook.

I don't have one. I'm much better off without a phone, honestly :P

My smartphone drives me nuts. I think it's smarter than I am. I view it as a necessary evil.

I love my smartphone. I like to write documents and save them to my OneDrive. :) I think they are very useful indeed. You can do so much more on them than a non smartphone.

I don't even like having a cellphone, and I prefer to use the house phone (or, ideally, just not make calls). I do take the cellphone with me when I go places alone, as it's useful to have in an emergency -- say, if the car breaks down, or one becomes badly injured -- but that's really the only reason.

Smart phones strike me as rather pointless. They don't have large enough screens to get much of anything done on, I hate touch screens, one can't type well on them, and I'd just much rather use my computer. I'm not interested in the sort of games available on them, either. If I want a camera, I'll bring a camera with me, and if I want to amuse myself somewhere for long periods of time I'll bring a book or a sketchpad. I don't need something with me to amuse me with short periods of time, since my natural inclination to daydreaming will do well enough there.

I suppose, all told, I actively dislike smart phones. It's very annoying when one is trying to talk to somebody and they keep tapping away at their phone. I don't consider them quite as useless as tablets, though -- everything good about tablets is also true of laptops, and as they don't fit in a pocket, you still have to bring something around with you to carry them and thus they aren't actually any more portable than a laptop, and they are harder to use for anything I'd want to use them for (gaming, writing, even surfing the web).
