HelloToYou
My mind goes completely blank when I do. I have tried to fantisize, but it just doesn't do anything for me.
mysteye
I'm not sure if anyone else does this, but it's really the only way it works for me. I have to imagine a journey. Like I'm starting at one point (the bottom of a hill) and I have to work my way up to the castle at the top. And the castle has three rooms, and I have to find the right one. So I basically have to tell myself a story....maybe to distract me from what I'm doing. It's never the same one, it just comes into my mind. And it's always very detailed. I can see all the grass, it's night time, there's a storm coming, etc. If I ever do think about something other than a journey, it's usually cituations with people. Like a scene where an old boss of mine would call me up and tell me he was thinking about me....or something like that. I've tried thinking about other things, but it doesn't work. And sometimes it just ruins it completely. I do love math. Maybe I could try that and see where it takes me :)

Hurina
*cough*Remus/Sirius*cough* And I imagine myself as Remus. *runs away* Also sounds like me, I chose two fictional male characters I like and go from there. I've never gone with those two, but others from Harry Potter at times. I never imagine myself, that's a total turn off. And Piscator, I found the comic really funny! ghosts
I like Remus. :D Although, I don't fantasize... But to each his/her own.

confusedme
I don't ever fantasize about myself and anyone else. It's usually about penis in vagina scenarios, even though that doesn't feel all that great to me in real life. I usually bring up pornos I've seen or that time a couple did it next to me on an overnight youth group event in high school... :) The thing about pornos is that they turn me on physically, but I'm against how they portray women as things to use and get off on. I know it's wierd. Especially because it's not loving and gentle sex that I fantasize about. It's the aggressive pornos (where the woman either likes it rough or doesn't think she wants to do it at first, but then is "persuaded") or some rape scenes in movies that I think about. Of course, I would NEVER want anyone, me included, to be raped or used like that in real life. Other things that turn me on that are wierd are women losing their virginity and animals mating. It's aggressive. (I'm not turned on by animals themselves-just with their mating process with eachother.) I feel wierd for thinking about that stuff. I don't understand how my fantasies and my values can collide like that. I partially blame pornography for messing my view of sex up. I don't usually watch pornos anymore, but I have a store of visual memories... I grew up in a house with an uncle who's 10 years older than me and a porn addict, so I was exposed to porn at a young age. I think that messed up my view of sex. My husband saw his dad's magazines. Both of us enjoy pornography, but see the damage in it. Particularly when you have kids in the house (because they can find it.) So we don't allow any in our house. OK-probably more than any of you wanted to know!
Piscator
confusedme, that's kind of how I feel about pornography, too. I was exposed to it at 11 or so, maybe earlier, and when I started masturbating I started using it occasionally in that way. And here, maybe 8-10 years later, I worry about the effect that it's had. Women are degraded, treated like objects (and men sometimes too), and all of the rest of the cliche that we've all heard before, and I wonder how much truth there is to it; we might think that we're beyond doing that kind of thing, or letting it influence us like that, but after seeing it happen again and again in porn, I don't know. Slechtheid
I don't think. I close my eyes and try to get it over with. The only reason i'm doing it is because if i don't, i'll have "spots" in the sheets. But i hate it.

Kally
It was hard to do in the beginning, and it's still very, very, VERY hard for me to do now, and, believe it or not (this'll sound stupid) I do it to clear my sinuses. No, really. It clears my sinuses. No...really... I have to go with fictional characters. I write fiction (market fiction, not fanfics, tho I do that too), so sometimes it's that (always third person, but I like to imagine my characters hugging/kissing) sometimes someone else's character, usually a vampire/demon or something. Hey, I figure it's my fantasy, so I can hug a vampire if I want to. :P Often it's a generic/faceless gothic type of guy, maybe not really a guy, per se, but more of an impression of a guy, almost a spiritual thing, as earlier mentioned in the thread. Nazg
At the risk of sounding like a 12-year-old girl, I almost invariably think of fictional characters. My thoughts have never involved people I know, and they have never involved myself. That's pretty much me as well. I think of sexual scenarios, but they always involve fictional or generic characters; fantasizing about someone I actually know wouldn't appeal to me, and would feel rude or embarrassing. And it's scenes in 3rd person; I may have a generic male character which is kind of me, but it's still separate from me, mentally watched rather than participated in. Did you steal my keyboard? :P Because this is exactly what I fantasize too. Mostly they involve furries/anthros, and I must have a written plot to "get in the mood". I can't just think of anything by myself.

I go through rounds with this one now and then -- I imagine myself as Sirius, incidentally. :D I should add, then, although I never picture myself in any scenarios, I do usually associate with another person... holy crap! i thought i was the only one that did that. I thought it might be weird imagining fictional characters going at it and getting off to it, that and sometimes imagining myself as one of the characters, but apparently not. You guys are cool. Although i must say my pairing is a bit different being that i'm none too fond of sirius ^_~

Zacher
I am the same as most with masturbating. I usually do it when I'm bored, and nothing else to do, or right before bed. I tend to have visuals up in front of me as well to get me going. Sometimes that's all I need, and it's off to bed. Sometimes right when I'm "ready" I'll visualize someone I know, and yet I don't know. I think that fits into the "generic" person category. It's never me performing a sexual act on this generic person, but that she's there. And for me the generic person will be a female.
Squick
I think if one goes back through my masturbatory stimuli, one would find some very interesting issues to raise with a psychiatrist. I'm not sure I want to go into it all. But maybe that's true for everyone. Ignoring the time I discovered it, the early mental pictures were on me in a bubble bath, surrounded by candles, etc., and a guy just sitting next to the tub. That would be when I was like 11 or 12. Then it got into exhibitionist-type stuff, and honestly, that's my #1 still. Just being naked, not sex. Lordy, I've only ever told one person that. *cough* Maybe a couple times, I've thought about actual sex with a guy--a couple times in all these years. Occasionally, it's about being with a chick. Often, it's two guys (that probably about ties with the exhibition thing). Occasionally, it's things I'd never freely admit to. But about 85% of the time, it comes back to the exhibitionist thing, even if it starts as something else.
amahga
My thoughts wander, too. I often stop halfway through because my thoughts have drifted so far off topic. Yeah,I tend to stop half way through because I get bord. I often think about... IDK... just getting an orgasm, but I get bord and feel strange so I stop. Don't really do it all that often any more. Basically none... I used to try to get something going, because I have friends who said they can do it multiple times a day {up to 9}, and I was like... ok... maybe once every few weeks... You are really like my twin, ya know? Wow, I have a twin and I haven't known it for 17 years of my life.. yay yay I too often command myself like "hey girl, where is that boy from your fantasy? Oh, gosh, I am off the road. Gonna think about cosmology" or something of the sort.. I gave up masturbation because my thoughts wander soo much and my hands become tired of it  exactly
amahga
Oh fascinating subject. What could I think of ? Pretty much anything, or even nothing. When sometimes I feel the need to do that, since the need is there, I can proceed with it; I'm thinking about what I'm doing, perhaps. But it's already enough by itself not to need anything else. Do you people always need something to think about ? It could sure make things easier, but after all, there's a lot of, eh, physical instinct involved in it, when you start it for a reason, shouldn't be easy to finish it then ? not if you get bord... They don't make me want to have sex or masturbate but they arouse me on a mental level. I don't masturbate, but on the few occasions I've tried porn was on the list of things I'd try to fantasize about. I would also try to think of 2 fictional characters having sex, or just lying next to each other cuddling. Nothing ever does it for me though, usually I get distracted by the actual situation and once I'm reminded of what I'm doing there is just no way I can continue. Usually when I seriously fantasize, I doze off into a happy state of being half asleep. The weird thing is that the more I like my fantasies the less I am likely to touch myself, for fear I might ruin it or get distracted from my thoughts. I have to concentrate on a fantasy and I can't do it when something in the back of my mind screams "ewww, you're masturbating!" Not that it ever feels good in the first place... GirlInside
I almost always imagine myself as a (genetic) woman; even the exceptions involve me in the female role sexually. It's always with imaginary people, never anyone I know. As time goes on and I turn further away from relationships, I imagine myself more and more as another person and less and less as anything resembling my real self. I don't like porn so much, because it caters to male sexuality.

Guest Heligan
Speaking of fictionaly characters, that has been some of my fantasies too while masterbating but..usually in the fantasies I put myself in the fantasy too (meaning I imagine myself having sex with the fictional character) Anyone who thinks that's weird raise your hand and I expect to see a lot of hands raised.. I dont think its weird, it pretty much decribes what I do too. My fictional characters tend to be generic/faceless though. The fantasies have changed since I went from sexual to asexual phases though. When I was sexual, fantasies were very complicated business (Ive had crop rotation in one of these things); needing huge back stories which I tended to think about to get myself in the setting and relaxed (mainly as I was in bed before going to sleep)...sometimes I used to just think about back story and not go any further..just curl up in fantasy and go to sleep in real life too. But sex would occur in fantasy and give rise to masturbation fairly regularly. I also used to masturbate about the current lover too- but seldom exs (and never those I was still friends with) it seemed like a violation. But since going into this asexual phase, masturbation is pretty much mostly just to releive itch not to relax. And the cosy back story fantasy just doesnt do it for me, everythng has got a bit nasty and extreme to be honest. I just want to get it done so I think of the most depraived thing I can to get me there. I think I have covered all the main perversions over the years, variety is the spice etc... with the exception of necrophylia (sp)and paedophillia there must be other stuff I havent even given a whirl but cant think of anything else right now. There is a memory component too though, remembering the physical sensations... but not exs themselves. Thats probably why I am always in the setting personally. redjoker
I'm another one who only gets aroused by pretty extreme fantasies. Like Heligan, I've probably done it to nearly everything except necrophilia and paedophilia. Alright, and politicophilia. George Bush will never fulfil any fantasies I might dream up. I never do it except when I'm in the bath/shower though. I feel disgusting otherwise. And when I do it, I never get pleasure out of it, only a temporary release, like letting out a sneeze. I'm not even sure WHY I ever masturbate, because I only do it maybe once or twice a month and I never feel horny beforehand or satisfied afterwards. I'll just be lying in the bathtub having a hot shower, half-asleep and daydreaming, then start doing it. I think I'll make it a New Year's resolution to stop doing things that I don't consciously want to do. Also, wow. If you were ever wondering what this or that bizarre obsession was called, check this list.

Ditto. The things in my brain are strange at best. Down right disturbing at worst. The beauty of it is that it is in your head. Your mind is one of the few places you can explore without any commitment whatsoever. You don't have to be gay to imagine sex with your own gender, you don't have to cure your acrophobia to imagine flying. I love the mind :) As for fantasy specifics - demons, bdsm, aliens, monsters, cavemen, animals, humiliation, captivity, gods, power. But mostly demons - with angelic captives XD
