Fruity<3
:D! I love the visibility you do. Thanks so much for going on the show. It was amazing of you to do so. What you said is basically how I feel about aceness too. Thanks for spreading the awareness, it's probably helping a lot of people understanding their sexuality more:] GOOD JOB!! sinisterporpoise
I'm glad I checked in here before doing this. I was about to do a write up for my blog on the attempt at recruitment. Now I can go off and watch the video instead.

Celestine
That's awesome, amygdala!!! :D Loved the interview. It did kind of ignore the existence of aromantics, but otherwise a great awareness-raiser. :) Yay!

It wouldn't surprise me if they did talk about aromnatics but cut it for time.
sinisterporpoise
My god, let's completely erase the existence of aromantic asexuals. Sorry, but the bit at the end really ruined this piece.

sinisterporpoise
Completely erases is an exaggeration, but this piece ignores the existence of aromantic asexuals. I know AVEN has a bias towards romantics, but go look through the piece again. The hosts assume every asexual wants a romantic relationship. Sassafras
Completely erases is an exaggeration, but this piece ignores the existence of aromantic asexuals. I know AVEN has a bias towards romantics, but go look through the piece again. The hosts assume every asexual wants a romantic relationship. Im going to agree with sarelfen on this and say im sure aromantics were likely discussed at some point but it was cut at a later date for clarity. It would be great if they had mentioned aromantics and other aspects of asexuality, even quickly in passing (like they did with sexually abused asexuals etc) but you simply cannot bombard people with that much information and make it stick. I also think a big point to remember is the default stereotypical asexual (if people are even aware of such a thing) is a shy, withdrawn individual with no interest in any human contact. Its my personal opinion that putting emphasis on the fact many asexuals are romantic and social 'normal' in all other aspects does more to aid understanding and acceptance than, for example, constantly stressing about how we are a massively diverse and faceted group. Im sorry if that sounds offensive to those that are a little further out on the bell curve, but that really is what i think. I actually thought that was one of the best media pieces ive seen - entertaining, factual and informative. Big big congratulations to amygdala for coming across so well too (and no need to worry, im really quite sure an intellectual, attractive and confident young woman such as yourself wont have too much trouble finding someone to share your life with :) )
eched
I found it a bit troubling that they said, they all like love and relationships, and then there was no statement on the people that are aromantic or grey-romantic like me. So a bit misleading.
mayve
Or you can be appreciative of the fact they actually wanted to talk about asexuality in the first place sooooo
ithaca
Amy, your interview was great! Awesome job! You looked beautiful and professional, and your photographs are also amazing It really isn't easy for both interviewers and interviewees to stick everything in 4 and a half minutes, is it? :) I know I remember doing a radio piece of 3 minutes and it was terrible because they called me on the phone, they knew nothing about asexuality and they had been talking for several minutes before I got on the phone about how all asexual people don't have sex ever, and my call was supposed to confirm their assumptions. So, rather than doing a brief piece explaining something about asexuality, I had to politely correct the hosts' mistakes and explain the difference between asexuality and celibacy. It was awkward for them to be corrected "live", on air, and it was awkward for me to have to do that. There's also the fact that in many parts of the world (if not most), asexual people are ASSUMED to not be interested in relationships at all once you say they don't want sexual intimacy. People just think we want friendships and that's it, even if they don't know the word "aromantic"; that's why hosts and audiences are often surprised to hear that there are romantic asexuals. This interview was great and I'm really proud of you :aven: :vis: :aven: :vis:

Lambda Corvus
Hey Amy! I watched your interview again; it was even better the second time around! Yes, there were some misconceptions. Realistically, we cannot expect everyone to just understand the full breadth of asexuality and all of the community's variability in about four minutes. All of this just goes to show how vis/ed work is vital to us, and how Amy is contributing to a great effort. Amy, your interview was wonderful, and the lack of mention for aromantics was by no means a fault of yours. Congratulations on your outstanding visibility efforts thus far, and may your work continue to prosper.

5_♦♣
While I liked the interview and think Amy did a good job, I don't how they generalize all Asexuals as wanting romantic relationships, just minus the sexual part. I mean, yes, the outside stereotype of us is an aromantic (even if people don't actually know the word)... However, just like how people assumed Asexuals must have a brain tumor or are lying after a house episode... People will assume that we're all longing for romance. And, IMO, it's just as bad to have people assume we're all romantic just as much as it is for people to assume we're all aromantic.
ithaca
Amy, I just thought you may want to know that the members of AVEN Italy who saw your interview (the ones who are most fluent with English) said your interview is great!
