gypsy_princess
i just finished watching the interview and i'm too excited, you can't understand, i feel like i saw my idol on tv! first of all, Silver, you're the cutest thing ever. i seriously wanted to squeeze and hug you through the screen. anyway... so... as many of you know from this thread http://www.asexuality.org/en/topic/94267-going-to-milan-for-an-interview-about-asexuality/?view=getnewpost that our moderator SylveonKitsune went to Milan yesterday, for an interview on asexuality for the italian tv program Lucignolo, with the host/magician Marco Berry. i'm so proud of them. really. but it all happened so fast! i turned on the tv and waited. waited. waited. typed on my laptop. checked my phone. waited. and then i look up and see "Asexuals: a life without sex" on top of the screen and i immediately rushed in front of the tv. the interview was really interesting. it was a bit short (3 minutes or a little more, i guess), but still nice. it took place in the underground. it was all so... friendly, Marco spoke to our dear moderator as a friend, greeted, then asked them a few things and let them speak (and i was like "omfg Silver you're so cuteeeee" and i posted a photo on Facebook. i hope you don't mind. i was too excited). a lot of close-ups on their face, on the black ring, on Silver, on Marco, i was a bit odd but that's Lucignolo's interview style. they talked about the basics of asexuality. its definition, relationships, romanticism, and also about Silver's personal life as asexual... Marco looked thoughtful. as if he was processing what Silver was telling him and trying to find a new question. everything was short, straightforward, interesting. i really hope the viewers learnt something from it! all i can say is... Silver, i'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FREAKING PROUD of you!!!! well done *claps* here's one of Marco Berry's funny expressions. i'm transcripting the interview right now. i'll post it as soon as it will be done. (screw my biology interrogation tomorrow, i won't study)

Lambda Corvus
Much congratulations on the interview. I, too, look forward to reading the transcript. The pictures really do show the interview to have been relaxed in style; the closeups are an interesting way to film such an encounter.

gypsy_princess
TRANSCRIPT Marco: first of all, i'm happy to meet you Silver: me too! M: so, when i was told about your story... i thought i would meet you and, meeting you, i wouldn't talk about a problem. because it's not a problem, it's a choice more than a problem S: no, it's not a choice. sexuality is an orientation. you can call it condition, but not a choice. one can choose to have or not have sexual intercourses for a lot of reasons, sexual or other. asexuality is just the lack of sexual attraction. it isn't something you choose, in the same way you don't choose to be straight, gay, bi M: when does someone find out.. when did you find out you were asexual? S: for someone it's a simple, natural process, like when you find out you're homosexual when you're very young. for others, it's a more difficult process because, nowadays, you don't talk too much about asexuality. i found it out when i was 18, 3 years ago, so it's not such a long time... M: you're asexual. you don't want any kind of pleasure S: exactly M: so you say "look, i tried, i'm not interested, i don't feel any kind of attraction towards..."? S: exactly. and there are asexuals who do self erotism and are asexual anyway. the desire of a sexuality between a couple and the desire of asexuality on your own can be divided and have different pleasures. asexuals can see this difference. some don't want none of those two pleasures, for example, because they don't have attraction towards others and can live that as a biological function, like drinking or eating. they may do that to release stress, to fall asleep, or just for a physical discharge their body ask them. but romantic attraction and sexual attraction can be divided. M: absolutely. they can parallel and never meet S: for the majority of people, romantic attraction and sexual attraction go together, but it's not like that for everyone, wheter for asexual or sexuals. we know, sex without love exists, so you don't need to be in love with someone to sleep with them. it may happen the opposite. there are asexuals who don't feel romantically attracted to anyone, they may prefer friendship, they're called aromantics. M: have you had a boyfriend? S: yes, one, years ago. M: when? S: when i was 17, before i knew it all. at that age, even without knowing about asexuality, i knew it was not a condition imposed by my young age, or fear, or a block. i don't even have a religious background. i don't think sex is disgusting, i don't think it's wrong, i just think it's not for me. but if i wanted it, i wouldn't mind, i'd do it. losing your virginity is not compulsory. i haven't, because i didn't want to. some asexuals did and said "i didn't like it. i'll never do it again". others said "well it was not too bad, but it's not something i'm looking for" M: so the risk is that you may fall in love with someone who has different sexual preferences S: asexuals who want romantic relationship can date an asexual, be alone, or be with someone and let them have sexual intercourses outside their couple or do it when they like, it they like. or choose someone who doesn't mind giving up on sex. these kinds of people exists. levels of sexual desire are changeable. M: which one of these categories would you like...? S: well my best scenario would be to be with another asexual or someone who doesn't mind about sex because i don't want to do it, and i wouldn't compromise. but i don't want to ask a sexual to give up on that part of a relationship for me, because there should be a sexual compatibility on both sides. M: a question. can an asexual change or not? S: they can't choose to change. but some people are sexually fluid, so they can be straight, gay, bi, asexual in some part of their lives, and then change. M:i wish you all the best. i hope you'll have a life full of emotions S: you too. (pardon my mistakes, i'm so tired!)

Lambda Corvus
Thanks for the translation of what sounded to be a great interview. The interview managed to quickly explain the fundamental aspects of asexuality in a format which was short and easily understandable. A great visibility effort here!

Guest
Thanks everyone ^_^ It was my pleasure to help visibility spread around. I feel sorry for those who were waiting for me to pop up on TV because I only did so about two hours into the show (and I wasn't told it would have taken THAT long), and the interview was cut down a lot. I'm still happy they covered the basis pretty nicely! The only part that didn't come out so well was this one: M: absolutely. they can parallel and never meet A: for the majority of people, romantic attraction and sexual attraction go together, but it's not like that for everyone, wheter for asexual or sexuals. we know, sex without love exists, so you don't need to be in love with someone to sleep with them. it may happen the opposite. there are asexuals who don't feel romantically attracted to anyone, they may prefer friendship, they're called aromantics. The part they cut here was the one about asexuals who DO experience romantic attraction, and can therefore love without sex (as opposed to having sex without love; that's what the "the opposite may happen" was referred to, in my speech). Stated this way it comes off as unclear. Well, it's not a big deal, mostly just a pet peeve of mine. I'm eagerly waiting for the filmed version! :)
tommy92
Look what I found on the page of the TV Channel^^ http://www.video.mediaset.it/video/lucignolo/clip/416868/orientamento-o-scelta-.html I can only understand a few words but looks like you done well :P
Robin L
Kudos to Silver for the excellent visibility work. And Cinnamon, too. Here's an insane amount of cake: :cake: :cake: :cake: :vis: I found it interesting how the interviewer asked Silver if they had a boyfriend. It's like The Most Important Question Asked By Interviewers.
Guest
I found it interesting how the interviewer asked Silver if they had a boyfriend. It's like The Most Important Question Asked By Interviewers. Haha, yes. I was expecting that question because they'd told me in advance that they preferred to interview asexuals who had already been in romantic relationships. I can understand that, actually, because it kind of dissipates the myth of romantic asexuals not having "found the right person" (theoretically speaking, any asexual could be demi without knowing it; I suppose that's what they thought, as I thought that myself before I experienced romantic attraction for the first time). michaeld
Yay!!!! Awesome work, Silver!! I was especially happy to see a mention of fluidity; this is almost always glossed over. And yes thanks Cinnamon for the transcript and translation; I know how much work that can be! :cake: all round.

I appreciate the fact you took time out to do what you did here, and it must have been tiring, but you too have helped in the visibility part of the interview by letting us in :) And of course, a big thank you to you Silver :) I really enjoyed reading through everything and Marco sounded like a good guy. I did panic a little at the part you high lighted as having a pet peeve with. I thought it must have been something I had missed, so thanks for explaining about the edit. I'm glad it went well, and came off equally as well, and thanks again for spreading the word. Cake to you both
