Dealing with Hormones... Hormone Therapy?

Recommended Posts

I know some here are lucky enough not to have high levels of hormones or whatever. But I have um... problems sometimes. Not anything like suddenly feeling attraction for other people, just that sometimes I just feel so yucky, all squirmy and unsatisfied, and prone to obsess over random things for hours on end. It seems to cycle, and on the apex of the cycle I'm even sometimes totally fixated on the act of sex itself. I don't want to call it budding sexuality, since I still could care less about having sex with anyone. But I think it might be sex hormone connected, whatever messed up cocktail that is flowing through my blood.

One other reason is kinda um... I kind of have to masturbate at least daily. I don't know what it is, but into the second day the above symptoms I described just go crazy. Not a pleasant feeling to say the least, although the orgasms are usually pretty intense. Eh. Anyways, so that leads me to my problem:

I don't have health insurance.

So that means I don't have a Primary Care Physician, and haven't for like, 3 years now. (Come to think on it, this hormone imbalance thing wasn't bothering me so much 3 years ago.) That means I can't get a prescription for anything, or a referral to any specialist. Heck I can't even get a tooth cleaning. (Got one June of 2004 though, luckily.)

So what should I do? I've been seriously considering trying some hormone cocktail to try and balance out my body's troubles, which incidentally might be interfering with my ability to get a job, but the only help I've been able to find is about enhancing sex drive and sexual characteristics, I mean besides the obvious and calcium sucking surgery. (Which I can't afford anyway.)

I hear that taking supplemental hormones can kill you if you don't precisely measure their levels in your blood, but the advice there always becomes, "So be sure to be regularly tested by your Primary Care Physician, or by the Specialist he recommends." Not much I can do about that. Is there any home testing kit type things, or is the precision equipment necessary just too expensive? Any milder supplements that won't totally overwhelm my body?

I'm just looking to reduce the sex drive mostly, see if doing that would make it easier to concentrate on the things I actually care about. It might not even be the sex drive, but I don't have much luck elsewhere for soothing the yucky, unsatisfied, squirmy feeling. Exercise... makes it even worse, so :P

yea, sex drive mostly comes from the hormones from your head.

i do advice you to get a doctor, but prepare for the following questions

1) everyone wants more sex, why do you want to lower your sex drive

2) the frequency of your crave is "normal", and NOT unhealthy, you shouldnt need any medication

ya, i think it is very important to have a physician to check up which hormones are overflowing, then choose the appropriate hormones for your case

as for money, well, you would just have to spare some money for that, if money can buy what you want, you would just have to spend it

also, have you tried to control that physically crave? try some meditation, if that might help. many times, peopel can control their physical by a very very strong will

A sexual male friend of mine used to take an herb to reduce his sex drive. I can't remember what it is off the top of my head, but I'll try to remember to ask him about it next time I talk to him. Also, have you tried stuff like working out and/or meditation? It's supposed to help relieve stress and calm the body.

I myself might be getting on hormonal therapy, but I can't say when exactly since no details have been dealt with yet.

It wouldn't be to reduce the sex drive though, it's already at floor level or so.

Hormonal Reassignment Therapy (HRT for short), to reduce testosterone levels and rise estrogen levels in a biological male to feminize the body (and I don't recommend it to someone that would fear chemical castration or infertility, because it will).

It is the most prominent physical changes in a transgender transition. Surgery seems like details in comparison, or the finishing touch.

I don't know yet when, but I will eventually undergo HRT, and I don't fear chemical castration more than I'd fear getting diabetes from drinking milk.

I've given it a lot of thought, but don't want to push things, that is the change will most likely be approved, but I want to be certain first. Certain of my feelings, of myself, before I do it, so that I will not regret it.
