Queen Under the Mountain
I love listen to music in different languages, this topic is paradise Follow some songs in Portuguese: https://youtu.be/jkDLGRNIEYMParalamas do Sucesso - Meu erro Paralamas is a Brazilian rock band from the 80's, this is one of my favorites songs of them (the singer is sitting because he suffered an accident and is paraplegic since then) https://youtu.be/jOowmbyhZnkCassia Eller - As coisas tão mais lindas Cassia Eller is another rock singer but I choose a more pop rock romantic song of her because I find the lyrics very cute without being the usual "I love you so much I'm going to die" stuff we see in romantic songs https://youtu.be/NpIanaBFVXEMarisa Monte - A Sua Marisa is what we call a MPB singer (MPB means popular Brazilian music and really relates to a style not to the popularity of the song), I find her voice amazing https://youtu.be/uph0CERrjPMTim Maia - Descobridor dos sete mares And to finish a Soul and Black music singer! Really, I dare you listen to it without feeling like dancing a bit hahah
morgaine has won
Here is a bit german punkrock, taken from a concept album by Die Toten Hosen, for the book Clockwork Orange. In my family, everyone was a fan of this band, so there's the nostalgia factor for me ^^https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pb9QFXD9h-E my attempts at translating: Die Farbe Grau - The colour greyThe verdict of the judge was passed mercilessly,Fourteen long years they send you to prison.Outside the world is turning and it doesn't even ask about you.All that separates you from it is your door made of iron..Count every hour, count every day, every minute is a whole year.Grey is the colour, of your overall.Grey is the colour, of the wall of your cell.Grey is the colour, of the entire prison compound.Grey is the colour, of every new day. Tiredly making your rounds in the yard, Trying to flee into dreams. And everyone's just waiting for the day of release; Thoughts of escape in the night. Count every hour, count every day, every minute is a whole year.Grey is the colour, of your overall.Grey is the colour, of the wall of your cell.Grey is the colour, of the entire prison compound.Grey is the colour, of every new day. Everybody just wants to get out! Count every hour, count every day, every minute is a whole year.Grey is the colour, of your overall.Grey is the colour, of the wall of your cell.Grey is the colour, of the entire prison compound.Grey is the colour, of every new day. Grey is the colour. Grey is the colour. Grey are the days https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WFSu7zBnpo Zahltag - Payday Finally Alex can go, because they tamed him. Reordered his nature with medication. He gave his will for his freedom, it wasn't completely clear to him. The price was much too high, and he paid it. Now he's back again, but he has to realize quickly That everything's different since he went away from here. Cause in the papers was a picture of him, and everyone saw it. Old enemies are ecstatic to turn the tables now. Payday, payday, payday - The time of punishment is only beginning for him. Payday, payday, payday - For a man-machine that's incapable of defending itself. It is his old game, just with the difference, That he's the loser, and is walking on his knees now. Regret is coming much too late now, there's no one who's on his side. As he's fleeing from the past, he finds no place to hide. Payday, payday, payday - The time of punishment is only beginning for him. Payday, payday, payday - For a man-machine that's incapable of defending itself. Okay, 35 Jahre isn't really about clockwork orange... : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EKkBOFEL_0 ... 35 Jahre - 35 years He spends most time at the window, with a pillow under his arm. Is a bicycle on the sidewalk, is a car parked in a wrong way? He is at all times ready and sets off the alarm. A year ago he retired, Now he doesn't know how things will go on. His budgie is the last one to speak with him occasionally. When he sits alone in front of his wall of fotos. 35 years long, Hooks for the shower curtain. 35 years long, hooks for the shower curtain. He used to work on the production line in hall 24 b. He was leader of a team, cause he served his way up. The time clock determined the flow of his life. His very first 'blue overall' (Blaumann = special piece of clothing for workers, in the past) hangs like a uniform in his closet. The farewell letter of the company he has gotten framed. He makes the same food break as in all the years. 35 years long, Hooks for the shower curtain. 35 years long, hooks for the shower curtain. There are no translations available for this album, but I can make more ^^ And yes I used a dictionary to help *uff*
kiaroskuro
In my family, everyone was a fan of this band, so there's the nostalgia factor for me ^^ Looks like your family has (had?) good taste in music! Die Toten Hosen is one of the very few German bands I listen to. Although I have to say that I listen to their stuff mainly for nostalgic reasons nowadays. And then there's this band:
RedOwl
Á la volonté du peuple. Classic from Les Mis, but it sounds amazing in French. https://youtu.be/zu1eyEvcEG0 Nana de Lluvia - Carlos Núñez https://youtu.be/7aigzx5fg6w Such a beutiful song. It talks about how a woman sings lullabies to the sea because it took away her husband and her son. Mira Dentro - Maldita Nerea https://youtu.be/pQ1D5ICleIE One of my favourite songs, it has such a happy message. My favouite quote: "Let the rest of the world remember us for being daydreamers". kiaroskuro
Glad you like it, Morgaine! I haven't listened to 'Der Misanthrop' in ages ... yep, gotta love the message. The song may not be as brilliant as 'Der Rebell', but it's good nonetheless. Today I was in Hosen-Stimmung: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWAcxfgHLO4 Both bands are terrific, don't ask me to pick sides :D

aquarius-me
I'm so glad that I actually recognise quite a number of songs posted on this thread thingo! ;u; And I also discovered a few gems here...thanks guys. :3 I typically listen to K-pop and J-pop but going back to my childhood roots, let's look at a Cantonese song! 連續劇 (Serial Drama) sung by Joey Yung, this track is the theme song to the 2012 Hong Kong medical drama 'On Call 36 Hours' (The Hippocratic Crush). The Chinese lyrics are actually very poetic and story-like (beginning lyrics talk of a baby being born into the world) and speak much about how fragile life can be, carrying on the same 'life is unpredictable and has its ups and downs like a TV drama' theme. The translated lyrics can be found here. Aside from that, I have my other favourite songs in other languages I'd like to share with you all. ^^/ [MANDARIN] 愛妳 (Love You) by Kimberley Chen, theme song to Taiwanese drama which starred SS501's Jungmin screams-- ^ I think that was also her debut song...o.0" [KOREAN] Not Alone by Park Jungmin from SS501(sobs cause bias band) ^ The instrumental is freaking perfect, unf. Still my favourite song of all time. The lyrics and the MV combined together bring out an encouraging message to those being discriminated/different from the world that they're not alone, and I feel this fits perfectly with you guys here. [KOREAN] Don't Walk Away - Kim Jaejoong from JYJ (feat. Yong Junhyung from Beast) ^ The translated lyrics may not be relatable to some of you, but the instrumental is once again peeerfect. More dramatic orchestral strings, steady bass and a little synth. Strong track. [FRENCH/ARABIC] C'est La Vie by Khaled ^ My friend introduced me to this song last year and I loved it! The chorus is actually in French but I think predominately the song's in Algerian Arabic. Catchy electrodance track. [sPANISH] All Good Things by Nelly Furtado ^ I prefer the Spanish version compared to the English version...eue;; [JAPANESE] 風に薫る夏の記憶 (not gonna bother translating this long ass title--) by AAA ^ Jokes, the lyrics roughly translate to 'Memories of the Fragrant Summer Wind'. The instrumental is sooo calming and beautiful...;u; And yes, I am aware that I am too obsessed with this mixed sex group.
knout
Habib Koité - Bolo mala I believe the language is Bambara? The chorus is partly in Spanish though... really uplifting song anyway :)

morgaine has won
Let me present you more german bands: Wir Sind Helden ("We Are Heroes") Hände Hoch/ "Hands Up": , alternatively: It is over, you are surrounded Around you is everywhere the world That doesn't ask you what would please you That just says: This is how it is Take as much time as you must but don't fight it anymore Keep the pain inside your chest but don't fight it anymore (put your hands in the air!) Admit your defeat Repeat after me: This is how it is (hands up!) Admit your defeat This is how it is This is how it is What about it; you are surrounded What you are holding onto so tightly is not even what you asked for Look at you: This is how it is Your prey is your burden come on, don't fight it anymore Cry all the tears that you've got but don't fight it anymore (put your hands in the air!) Admit your defeat Repeat after me: This is how it is (hands up!) Admit your defeat This is how it is This is how it is It's over, you are surrounded Around you is everywhere the world that isn't wondering what would please you And still, sometimes it does it anyway Change everything you're capable of but don't fight it anymore Change everything that you must do but don't fight it anymore (put your hands in the air!) Admit your defeat Repeat after me: This is how it is (hands up!) Admit your defeat This is how it is This is how it is (hands up!) .... Für nichts garantieren/ "Can't guarantee for anything" Do you see me, really Do you really see me? Do you see me, really Do you really not see me? You lock me up inside your dreams You lock me up you lock me up You say you want and that I stay Are you sure I'm not sure Say, do you like what you see or do you see whatever you like Do you see whatever you like It's not holding still, it's turning Are you bearing it or are you disrupting it Are you keeping it small; In vain Keep out of it or hold on Attention! It's moving! Are you coming with me? - I can't guarantee for anything Or are you staying here? - I can't guarantee for anything Are you staying with me? - I can't guarantee for anything Do you trust me? - I can't guarantee for anything Do you mean me, really Do you really mean me? You say you want that I stay this way Namely forever I say: Not always You hold me within your arms You hold me You hold me (/detain me) Say, do you like what you see or do you see whatever you like Do you see whatever you like Whatever it itself might like Say, do you want to join Can you keep up with the pace or are your steps too hesitant Decline or accept it look what a lightning strike can do Are you coming with me? - I can't guarantee for anything Or are you staying here? - I can't guarantee for anything Are you staying with me? - I can't guarantee for anything Do you trust me? - I can't guarantee for anything Keine Angst mehr /"No fear anymore" No narrow ridge anymore, no down, no up You would have, while sleeping shifted the clouds And all your questions said they didn't need you anymore and you could go Imagine: You didn't have any fear anymore of nothing and no one never again alone The wind didn't roll before your window at night anymore In the pattern of the wall lived no ghosts anymore The dark figures warmed the cold hands now elsewhere than on you You didn't have any fear anymore of nothing and no one never again alone You could love everyone like this one You could lose everything wouldn't have to cry for anyone And all your love would stay forever no matter where the people go Imagine: You didn't have any fear anymore of nothing and no one never again alone You didn't have any fear anymore of nothing and no one never again alone Excuse any awkward phrasing, please! I was trying to preserve Judith's interesting sentence structure. Stiller /"Quieter" I try to explain the world to myself As if there were lines between the dots As if the words were parting the world into strips for me I'm just grabbing and can't grasp it What use would be my hands when what they touched disappeared Just as the things when the words find them turn mute and silently free themselves I'm not quieter just the words are missing I'm not quieter just the words are missing their aim I'm not quieter I want to stay silent so much And quietly, quietly much more quietly just point at everything And silently silent and shimmering [...] showed itself to me... I try to explain myself to the world As if there were lines between the sparks As if the words could even graze what I'm grasping for and I can't grasp it Of what use are the beautiful thoughts that sank down between all the others Because the heart of all thoughts is of lead because everything they find is over I'm not quieter just the words are missing I'm not quieter just the words are missing their aim I'm not quieter I want to stay silent so much And quietly, quietly much more quietly just point at everything I'm not quieter just the words are missing I'm not quieter just the words are missing their aim I'm not quieter I want to stay silent so much And quietly, quietly much more quietly just point at everything And silently silent and shimmering [...] showed itself to me... ...isn't this song beautiful? I didn't check if there already are translations of these songs out there, as it would have spoiled my fun ... ^^ edit: again, english isn't my native language .... so i might have worded some things awkwardly.
