Songs in alternate languages!

Kanenas

This is Greek contemporary music by one of my favorite artists. Really different from our traditional, folk, or underground music.

Here's an awesome one from Turkey. This one's got a hell of a bone-rattling chorus, if you ask me. The video's a tad creepy but hey, it's got music too! I You'll like it! There! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjaZiWBvnL4&feature=youtube_gdata_player

This song is called Fairy Tale by Micheal Wong but this guy made a cover and sings it in 5 languages. While i think the original sounds better, 5 languages is very impressive so thought i'd share it here. Also, i think he switches language every 40-55 secs?

Classic video by Finnish one-man band Keuhkot:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ArnsN67qjY

^_^

Talking about Finnish, this is pretty funny. I like it:

The lyrics are on the site, and so is the translation.

This is one of my favourite ones these days. Even though it's about something very sad, but I really like it. (Not sure if others will...)

Crucan na bpaiste

Is briste mo chroí, is uaigneach mo shlí

Is mo stóirín in a luí is mé cráite;

‘S é deireadh mo shaol, is mo chailín beag rua

Sínte i gCrucán na bPáiste

Ni fheicfidh sí arís an drúcht ar an bhféar

Nó an sneachta i ngleannta Mhaamtrasna

Gan ghrian ar a h-aghaidh, gan ceol binn na n-éan

Ach an chré fuar i gCrucán na bPáiste

Chorus:

In ainm an Athair is in ainm an Mhic

Is a Mháithrín atá lán de ghrásta;

In ainm an Spioraid Naomh ná fág me beo

Is mo mháinlín i gCrucán bPáiste

Is buartha na sléibhte, is tá mairg ar an Mask

Is olc mise gan i bheith sábháilte;

Is an fhad a bhéas mé beo ní sheasfaidh mé ar fhód

Na hÉireann nó i gCrucán na bPáiste.

Repeat chorus:

Broken my heart, lonely my life

With my darling child lying here and me tormented

It is the end of my world, my little red-haired girl

Laid out in Crucán na bPáiste

She will not see again the dew on the grass

Nor the snow in the glens of Maamtrasna

No sun on her face, no sweet song of the birds

Only the cold earth of Crucán na bPáiste

Chorus:

In the name of the Father and in the name of the Son

And Mother Mary full of grace;

In the name of the Holy Spirit, don’t leave me alive

With my little angel in Crucán na bPáiste

There is sadness on the mountains, anger on the Mask

But much worse am I that didn’t save her

And for the time I am alive never more will I stand

In Ireland or in Crucán na bPáiste.

Repeat Chorus

Leijat by late Finnish singer Kirka Babitzin, recorded some months later in 1968, than the Simon Dupree & The Big Sound original Kites. The splendid Finnish arrangement by Jaakko Salo is even better than the original.

do you understand the lyric? I can't translate the whole song as my english voc is limited but the song is about how women are treated as objects by men in "general".

as for islamic dressing code goes, there is a lot of controversy among muslims about hijab and whether women should cover their hair or not.

A name is required

hebrew and english are my native language, but i'm enchanted by yiddish (a eastern-european jewish language) i wish i would know more of it (unfortunately the yiddish language is dying now, because few and few people understand it) . i will add to songs here on yiddish two of them are very different . one is a sad one of Longing to the old jewish towns in eastern europe (the שטאטעל)

the other song represent more happy yiddish, as it is written "in the new world" (america) and is way more funny (like the yiddish language itself, which is the most funny language out there) it's a play song, which is one of the most funny that i know (i'm sorry but my yiddish is not so good so i can translate the entire thing)
