A Sex Therapist Knows We Exist!?

I think GSD is a great idea! People are going to fight it, especially from the LGBT community, but whatever. I think the sense of it will dawn on people eventually. The opponents to it may be fearful of losing their own hard-earned visibility, and I can't say I blame them. I hypothesize that GSD will lend more visibility and acceptance to us all who don't conform to heteronormative standards. Solidarity, right?

The more I think about it the more I don't like it.

Gender and Sexuality Minorities > Gender and Sexual Diversities IMHO.

At the very least, I think it should be changed from Gender and Sexual Diversities to Gender and Sexuality Diversities for the sake of clarity. GSD sounds a lot like STD and most people I imagine will see GSD and think the D stands for Disorder or Disease. The word Minority in place of Diversities would make a lot more sense and stop it from sounding quite so clinical.

One of my friends who know's I'm asexual was talking to a doctor (I'm not sure what type) client of his who completely acknowledged that Asexuality is a real thing. Yay for more awareness!!

Hey all,

yes, I am old asexuel.

From 1987 - 1991 I was under a Sigmund Freud therapist, because I had to, and not because I liked it.

It was a very terrible time for me,

and sadly enough, it determined everyone in my future, the future that was and the present that is now,

and I am worried also the future that comes.

She was a terrible woman to me,

she hated me honestly and I couldnt get away from her, I was her slave,

because then people were afraid of an asexual like me here in Denmark.

It hasnt been good for me to know her.

I am 61 years old now and have no friends, I think that I have never had really friends, and I have no family left, lots of things have happened since I knew that woman in work.

She hated me,

and I have allways had to love myself, so I love myself, but I miss some really friends and not acquinces.

My english is not perfect, I know,

best wishes from hadeel.

I sure hope sex therapists do know we exist because my psychologist is also a sexologist and it would be pretty hard to make him understand I don't want to improve myself to feel secure enough to start dating! o.o

I kinda like the idea of GSD instead of the LGBTQWTF alphabet mess, even if I personally don't feel the need the need to be included under the LGBT[...] umbrella.

It would just be nice to be able to refer to all, uh, non-heteronormative people (is that even a word? am I excluding all heteroromantic aces with this?) with one simple acronym or even better - a single word which isn't "non-something-or-other" but a separate positive term. LGBTQQIAA is simply ridiculous! The terminology gets so confusing that I feel unable to express my thoughts simply because I am not sure what words to use. I kinda like the word "queer" as a catch-all term but have honestly no idea what it includes and what not, so I rarely use it. So GSD sounds nice, even though I imagine some people would assume the "D" stands for "Disorder"...

I would reject the inclusion of asexuality with GSD, since asexuality is not a different or diverse type of sexuality any more the atheism is a different kind of religion.

Sexuals are sexuals, whether straight, gay, bi, TG or whatever. They're no more sympathetic to asexuals than the other kind.

If asexuality is ever to be considered an orientation, it can't be considered a sexual orientation, like being gay, lesbian or bi. That would be wildly inaccurate.

I've preferred the acronym GSRM (gender, sexual and romantic minorities). GSRD could work too.

I agree that GSRM is probably best, though GSRD doesn't sound as much like a disease as GSD does. My biggest tiff is that the S should be sexuality and not just sexual, to differentiate between orientation and behavior.
