So I was just reading the news headlines this morning and the following article caught my eye.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22946672

About halfway down the page on the right hand side, there is a small piece discussing whether or not Buchanan was the first gay President and the expert is quoted as saying that he believes Buchanan was Asexual not gay.

Interesting!

Someone who doesn't default a not-very-interested-in-heterosexual-relationships person to "gay" automatically gains an esteem point from me.

Not sure about how likely the claim is to be true, but it's an interesting hypothesis. :) It could be he just didn't want to be with anyone after his past fiancée, though.

  • 1 month later...

I read about this when i was randomly assigned to research Buchanan for a school project -- I thought it was fate! (not really. but you know.) It's all just speculation, of course, but it was cool to read.

Completely agree. As soon as anyone isn't in a relationship with the opposite sex for a significant time people start asking "are they gay?" it's frustrating for them and us.

He was a pro-slavery asshole and mental midget. Who cares about his sexuality?

Lol, mental midget, never heard that one before. I disagree with you about not caring regarding his sexuality, but only because I don't think the negative aspects of a person render their entire lives unworthy of consideration. Example, Thomas Jefferson; founding father; signer of the declaration of independence; widely considered one of the greatest of America's presidents; an "anti-slavery" slave owner who used his female slaves for sexual gratification (Sally Hemings). People are people.

Well, I'm not a big fan of Jefferson, either.

You're right. People are just people.
