All parts are out, the reactions in the comments have died down now, and it is now complete. I loved helping with the research and was really surprised to find myself in the article series. I think it's well written, and gives a lot of great information in a format that is easy to digest, if people can get past their preconceived notions and actually allow themselves to learn.

Nice.

I love the comment in that imgur picture

"That guy got friendzoned so hard he made it into the news"

Haha

I'm actually the ace mentioned that realized that there were others because of that picture. It gave me something to laugh at (because the friendzone isn't really a thing but it's funny to imagine that big of a friendzoning) and at the same time gave me something to think about (up until then I had only referred to myself as asexual as a joke that never left my own head).

Oh well. I guess putting Asexuality out there is better than not at all.

Depends.

You would have a bunch of those "I don't want to be dating anymore i'll be asexual" who then go on to date and have sex again thus reducing the seriousness of asexuality as an orientation and may lead to groups of people who would "try to get rid of asexuality" since it was possible for so many.

On the otherside of it, you would have people understanding and defending the orientation instead of treating it as Celibacy as some non-asexuals would put it.

I agree. Hopefully with these articles most people understand that we aren't just a bunch of people choosing to wait to have sex lol.

That's been the battle I fight on twitter. I try to inform people of the difference between other uses of the word asexual and the one that refers to people, and I try to get people to stop using asexual to talk about their failed relationships.

I think that's good when people do that. I would do it myself but I'm not very public about it on my twitter page, but I do follow some asexual accounts. Hopefully people will understand the difference.

I don't have the courage to be out as asexual to the world yet, so I applaud all the aces who were brave enough to be in those articles! Great stuff (have some :cake:)!

I think that awareness is the only way to help people understand the difference between asexuality and people who just call themselves asexual because they're not having sex, or whatever. Education is the best way to combat ignorance, so let's just hope more journalists take up the subject of asexuality and get it out there. Every person who learns about it and understands is a win, even if there are 10 others who think we're just trying to be special snowflakes.

It was actually really interesting to read the comments. I found it annoying and surprising just how many people seemed to be close-minded to the idea that asexuality even exists, and how many didn't think asexuality should be included under the LGBTetc umbrella, just because the discrimination against us is "not as bad" as it is for homosexuals and trans* people @_@. And there was I thinking LGBT groups would be more receptive to asexuality. Obviously not!

LGBT+ members are about as open as heterosexuals about asexuality, in my experience. Also, be happy that you're reading comments to an English article... you wouldn't know what the Italian media are like. :P English media are definitely centuries ahead of us, as far as acceptance and recognition go.

That was a very interesting read and I am really glad they did it. Spreading the word is very important.

I am also happy to see that a lot of non-asexual people now understand and accept us better. But there are still some idiots, my god will this close-minded idiots ever fuck off of this planet?

Am I mistaken, or are people who criticise this article (and others like it) not actually reading the article? Some of the arguments they make are just the very incarnation of flogging a dead horse...

Probably some trolls online leaving comments as well. That's why I hardly read comments anymore. There are people out there who are just being stupid online.

No, you are correct there. All the 'objections' they have, at least that I saw, were answered on the articles. I think some of them read one article and don't realize that their answer is in another.

I went there for other reasons. I usually left the straight up trolls alone (unlike swankivy who has more experience with them and is actually able to keep a level head with them somehow) but I went there to seek out those that actually were open to learning. I actually helped a couple of people realize that what they thought wasn't asexuality at all was, in one case demisexuality, in another grey-asexuality. And then there's this awesome lady who through my comments recognized she's asexuality after punishing herself for 60 years thinking she was doing something wrong or being mean to her husband.

That was really cute. ^_^ I'm glad people found the article useful in its unspeakable awesomeness. I feel sorry for those who couldn't figure themselves out until later on in life just because the term "asexual" wasn't in use until twelve years ago... still, better late than never. :cake:
