My husband has a Yahoo! account and left it open, and this was one of the featured stories on his home page. I was kind of in shock, and got really excited, and remembered AVEN so I came here to share! :D

It's in Spanish though. Sorry! It also seemed quite poorly written/translated, but it's understandable.

Throwing in my translation:

Julian has never experienced desire or physical attraction, neither for his girlfriend nor for men, just like other "sexless" people, who made up their mind on coming out this Friday in France, a country known for its celebration of love and seduction, and for being the homeland of 'French lovers'.

"I understood I was sexless after watching a TV show one night", explains the 27-year-old computer engineer, who thought before that his lack of interest in sex wasn't "normal", yet tried to repress his feeling.

Julian made love to his girlfriend, but more for her than for himself, in order to give her pleasure, since he wasn't compelled by desires or urges, he stated.

After having understood he had no sexual urges nor the wish to live an erotic life, Julian browsed the web on some specialised forums, and met another young asexual, a girl with whom he now shares a happy relationship... which is caste, of course.

Asexuals have started gathering up in France, where they're going to celebrate this Friday - a celebration that will let other people in on their differences.

"Society depicts sex as an obligation", said the vice-president of the Association for Asexual Visibility (AVA), who identifies as Paul. The opposite of that, the absence of a sex life, is considered a flaw, he complains. "Being sexless is a form of sexuality. It's part of human diversity and it's important to recognise it, rather than criticise it", he underlines.

It sure is difficult to live with such a difference in a society where sexual relationships are considered one of the keys to well-being and personal development, he claimed.

Two years ago, a well-known Parisien publisher, Sophie Fontanel, said she had stopped making love in a novel titled "L'Envie" ("Desire"). The book generated criticism and reproaches to the author, who was accused of not loving men and being depressed. It sold well, up to 1,000 copies a day. Many female readers appreciated that she expressed her own lack of sexual desire.

This lack causes problems to asexuals in relationships with people who actually want to have sex, and asexuals admitted to this, too.

"I met a woman five months ago and fell in love with her (...) yet I feel no sexual desire and it feels like she's distancing herself from me, even though it's hard because she still loves me deeply", an anonymous man wrote on a website (www.asexuality.org). "How I suffer, I'm crying tears of rage!", he expressed, presenting himself as The Empathic of Lyon, a city located in North-Eastern France.

According to the vice-president of AVA, many asexuals are in one such relationship.

In 2004, a Canadian teacher at Brock University, Anthony Bogaert, estimated that asexuals are about 1% of the population. The Asexual Visibility and Education Network (AVEN), founded in 2001 by the American David Jay, has 70,000 members worldwide.

Bogaert estimates that this community suffers from discrimination, too. "The average heterosexual is even less interested in asexuality than in homosexuality or bisexuality", he stated.

The term "asexual" started circulating in the late 90s, thanks to Internet and its specialised forums.

In 2010, the United States celebrated a week dedicated to asexuality, with visibility efforts.

The organisers of the first asexual day in France envisioned modest initiatives at first, for example sending poems over the web (http://journeeasexualite.tumblr.com/).

Julian has never experienced desire or physical attraction, neither for his girlfriend nor for men, just like other "sexless" people, who made up their mind on coming out this Friday in France, a country known for its celebration of love and seduction, and for being the homeland of 'French lovers'.

There are around 6 articles about asexuality in Indonesia. Though ONLY A FEW people read it. I wish there was a charade and T-shirts and all other things the sell come to my country. It's so hard to tell anyone about Asexuality since it is very very invisible.
