Things you just don't "get"

Three things I could never get are:

1. why bare shoulders are considered so horridly immodest (for example, no one with bare shoulders is allowed into US courtrooms)

2. why cannibalism is considered so indescribably bad (if there's something sacred about human flesh, I never learned it)

3. why fat/grease/lard is so sick-making (my late mother was sickened by the very mention of lard, yet one contributing factor to her demise was her lifelong gorging on greasy foods)

1. Why most people are still religious

2. Why people with a post-secondary education are considered "smart" (they're not! but they are good at jumping through hoops and memorizing.. oh and this is coming from someone who's in university -_-)

3. Why marijuana and gay rights are still considered "issues" (they're not!!.. live and let live)

1. Why appearances matter so much in EVERYTHING. My looking good has nothing to do with my ability to perform a job, or how trust worthy I am, etc. What car I drive shouldn't matter.

2. Why humans INSIST on touching people they don't know and why they get so offended if you don't want to be touched by strangers.

3. How people can enter into a relationship with and continue with someone they don't even like, just because they are "hot" and "a good lay".

.... I could continue. Pretty much ANY social interaction between humans I don't get. o.O lol

1. What it is about bare female legs that's so "sexy".

2. Why so many people actually seem to like uncomfortably hot weather.

3. Professional wrestling.

Not being imaginative today, I'll borrow from Guzica's list:

1. Why are big muscles considered attractive on a male?

2. Why do people consider being out in the snow and ice fun?

3. Why do people enjoy watching American football? (Soccer's another matter; that's fun to watch)

The world beyond my understanding. Basically everything such as social interaction, expectations, beliefs, the world of work, money etc. yeah... It's like I'm in a different world.

The main thing I don't get is why people just can't or won't respect others. It hurts nothing to be nice and polite and shut the bloody door gently when I've asked you about a hundred times already to be quieter because I'm frigging trying to finish my thesis here and I need some silence, okay?! and, you know, respect other's wishes on very basic things.

1. Why many people can't fathom the idea of dating a friend, or starting from friends in dating?

2. Why do so many people like to watch car racing?

3. Why do people wholeheartedly love a country or city they just happened to be born in?

And I echo all these:

Why marijuana and gay rights are still considered "issues" (they're not!!.. live and let live)
How people can enter into a relationship with and continue with someone they don't even like, just because they are "hot" and "a good lay".

1. Why haven't asexuals had a community before in human history? Are we just such a small minority, that before the web this was imposible?

2. People who don't enjoy all the weather, from balmy and insainly hot to cold and bitingly dry. I can't get enough of the wind, rain, snow or sun!

3. Why can't the loved ones who were some of the key voices in the questioning of my feelings understand the answer when it comes?

4. Why are sexual desires the only valid desires?

2. Why humans INSIST on touching people they don't know and why they get so offended if you don't want to be touched by strangers.

That's an actual condition called "delire de toucher"---it's defined as an uncontrollable urge to get one's mitts the heck on something. Since I was little, I knew most of the other boys had this... their eyeballs were in their fingertips.

2. Why do people consider being out in the snow and ice fun?

Because some of us are cold-tolerant enough to enjoy it.

Like it or not, respect is not a gift (though some egotistical people will disagree sharply with me on that).

Oh goodness, where to begin...

Why people give a damn about how other people live in some way or other.

Why people are obsessed with conspiracy theories.

Okay, so those are the only two things I can think of. (At the moment).

One thing I don't get:

Why do a lot of women love Twilight? I just don't understand the appeal.

Oh yeah, that's another thing: Twilight (and 50 shades of gray).

I also don't get the obsession with ball sports (baseball, football, soccer, basketball etc etc).

Great idea for a topic!

I don't get...

  1. Why breasts are considered sexy.
  2. How people can revolve their entire lives around a sport and not even play it. (As it's already been mentioned)
  3. Why people don't do what makes them happy

1) I don't get why a lot of people shun those who are different

2) Why do people care about the way others: look, feel, express themselves etc.

3) Nor do I understand my personality. Why I am like I am, how I became like this; and just how freakish am I in the eyes of my so called 'peers' at school?

1) Why people think that if you're not looking at them it means you can't hear what they're saying.

I don't like it, because I'm not talking about respect on a personal level (which I think it's what you're trying to point out - that's not the issue at hand here). I can very well not respect a person for how they behave and still not wish to impose on them. I'll more likely than not just ignore them. The issue here is a basic level of understanding when sharing the same space. How is it harder to close the door gently than slam it each time? Besides, it's not like I'm being hypocritical and slamming my doors while asking others to not do that. I think it's more egotistical to not realize that you're annoying other people than trying to adjust how you behave around them. It's not like I asked for something atrocious, is it?

Besides, you asked what I don't get. And I don't get that. If you do, good for you. I hope you never have to live with a person that doesn't respect your wishes.

1) Why people have to look at each other when they talk.

2)Why Wile E. Coyote doesn't talk in 99.9% of the roadrunner episodes.

3)Why the color pink is considered a color.

4)If you tell someone I love you why is it considered romantic even when your obviously platonic friends?

5)Why does Mayo disgust me?

6)Why can't people and animals communicate better?

7)Why vegans?Why?

8)Why do spices taste so good?

9)Why is cannibalism so interesting yet a lot of people don't like to conversate about it? They were trapped on a mountain and the people were already dead...why isn't it okay to eat them? It's not murder! It's the cycle of life!

10) Why do I forget the simplest words sometimes?...like was or comb or toothbrush or feet or whatever I'm talking about at the time.I even forget what I'm talking about sometimes.....why does that keep happening?! GAAAAAAH!

We go for a team building game of indoor bowls, everyone cheats and disagrees on the score line, Then we return to the office. huffing, puffing, bickering and arguing before dismissively flopping into our chairs. in self-righteous, indignance. Then after a short recuperative rest, we all agree it was nice way of de-stressing and we must go again..........

When I worked at an Airport I was regularly asked such powerfully inquisitive questions as. Ah, good,I see the 16.20 from Tenerife is on-time, do you know if it is going to be late at all?

or

As we are going away for quite a while, is it ok for our mum to come to see us off at the plane?

Or

The security are a bit over-zealous here, do you know if when we get ourconfiscated items back?

-Why has the aircraft diverted?
-Because of the density of the fog?
-So, what you doing about the fog?

-I want to speak to a manager, I demand to know why I have been kept waiting in a queue for 2 hours, this is quite frankly, preposterous?
-May I see your travel documents please?. Ah, I see, you've been standing in the wrong queue

-This really won’t do, the staff seem so off-hand and completely ill-informed, they just look at you with a bemused expression of vague disinterest. Does anyone know what they are doing at this airport.?

-I do apologise, we do have some new summer start staff, may I ask you to kindly identify the assistant please?

- Ah, yes, I see. Right if you just go over there to that white kiosk, beneath the escalator, you’ll find the information desk there. You have been standing at the American Express Kiosk

We were all relaxing one winter evening in the crew room, when a certain cerebrally challenged supervisor marched into the office and demanded that everyone follow him outside to Aircraft stand number 1. As we all slouched in a tattered heap along the yellow centre line beneath the air bridge, he ordered us all to undertake an intensive search, for a mouse that had been reported earlier, crossing the stand towards the Airbridge.

Never mind the thousands of rats and steadily breading factory cats running around, beneath a sky dark and dense with flocks of lapwings hanging around as though they are auditioning for the The Birds II.

. The same gullible supervisor created a furore when he complained about the tunnel that covered the lengthy baggage escalator. Some mischievous souls had made a spoof phone to him and he had fallen for it.

Thus the head of Airport Planning Enterprises, Facilitation and Engineering, received an officious and haughty phone him, demanding to know why the light at the end of the tunnel had been switched off!

My favourite one is about the former head of Airport Security, who walked around conspicuously wearing a non matching ginger wig with hair seemingly culled from next door’s tabby.
Well, the Airport used to close for Christmas day and he would be the one to lock everything up and secure the entrance gate One Christmas after securing the entire site, he walked back to retrieve his car then drove happily out of the Airport, crashing straight into the entrance gate, that he’d locked earlier.

  1. Why breasts are considered sexy.

Seconded.

I also don't get why artists who create illustrations of furries always, always have to put disgustingly huge boobs on them. Grrrrr!!!

Hell, maybe I should stop puttering around making things out of wood and learn how to draw so I can introduce my own line of soft porn---FFF (female furry flatsies).

  1. How people can revolve their entire lives around a sport and not even play it. (As it's already been mentioned)

Two words: couch potatoes.

  1. Why people don't do what makes them happy

In my case, it would be highly illegal.

The reason cannibalism is considered bad is because people only think of the Jeffrey Dahmer-type cannibals, and not "We were stuck on a mountain and had no other food source" situations, I guess.

1. Why do some people read too much into others' words and actions and assume they have some kind of hidden agenda or dark secret? I've had people assume I don't like them because I don't talk to them unless they talk to me first. And of course there are the morons that think not dating anyone=homosexual.

2. Why do some people rant about their friends being annoying or stupid, and yet continue to be friends with said annoying and/or stupid people?

3. Why do some people assume there are things that everyone has said or done (ex: the popular belief that everybody lies) despite not knowing/having met everyone? How can you honestly believe that out of the billions of people in existence and countless more who lived in the past, there's a personality trait, choice, or course of action that every single one of them has had or taken?

4. Why are certain words considered "curse words"? With the exception of racial slurs, what makes using them so horrible?

5. Why is it so difficult or impossible for some people to concede in an argument/debate when they've been proven wrong?

6. What's the point of giving hints and relying on the possibility that the person will take them? Why not just say what you want to say, if you're going to "tell" them anyway? And not everyone can take hints, myself being one of those people. If you don't explicitly say something, I'll never know.

Also, a lot of what others have stated.

Rethink:

1. Why people feel the need to dominate eachother?

2. What's the need for competition, to prove one is better than the other? Sure but why? Then what?

3. I have no idea about malice and hate, vengance, naked un-motivated agression. I've never hated anyone, people are inherently good. In the middle of it all. At the center.

The intricacies of friendship.

Socialising.

The medias fascination with certain Celebrities.

The Sheep like factor that some humans display. For example: Susan from the desk next to me is reading 50 Shades of Grey. I hate that sort of genre, but Maggie has also read it and I don't want to be left out. *3 days later*. I hated that book, but I can't be seen as not liking it, so I will lie.

There are many manly like examples too.

What I don't get:

1. Religion.

2. Peoples obsession with sex.

3. Peoples need to be in regular contact with one another and the necessity of hanging out regularly to maintain a friendship.

4. Why people have to kick up such a fuss about issues rather than simply taking the logical route. Such as peoples fuss about gay marriage. Two people who love each other marrying isn't going to hurt anyone and its not like them marrying is going to have a personal effect on the life of a heterosexual married person.

5. Why people with power must be so selfish and focused more on power struggles than things that actually matter.

I don't 'get' why celebrities are referred to as VIPs. VIP is an acronym for 'Very Important Person' so what is very important or even important about a celebrity?

I don't 'get' why so many celebrities are so coy about their private lives and about things in general. If you can't do a thing openly, don't do it!

I don't 'get' why Adele is so popular.

I don't 'get' why differences in culture, lifestyle, opinion and such are frowned on by certain people.

I don't 'get' superstition.

Agnetha.

Well, breasts are considered sexy because they are considered a sign of fertility. The larger the better.Since way back humans came around. Same with round hips. Larger figures used to be considered more sexy but somewhere around the 18th century corsets came along and it became the skinnier the better. All for corset sales is the common beief. Anyway, Thems the facts as far as I know. I don't really care much for breasts. They just seem to come with the package, though.

What I don't get is how most sexual people refuse to compromise. I'm willing to help them out a little (petting, masturbation) and not feel bad about it.

How our society got so over-sexualized so fast. I'm so glad my tenage daughter's not into any of that stuff. (yet)

Why people kike ketchup. Fry sauce is so much better.
