Other Spoken Languages: a little german, a little irish. i've picked up a few spanish terms but nothing whatsoever impressive through reading books translated into english from spanish while shakira songs also help but it's only an odd word. i can also translate ulster scots into english without any learning of ulster scot :D

I agree that being a fan of someone whose native language is not your own is a good way to learn the language. I am a massive fan of the Swedish rock musician Tomas Ledin (it is he on my avatar) and I have picked up some of the language from him.

Also hearing the lyrics helps you with the pronunciation.

No shame in being a Shakira fan, one's personal taste is one's own business.

Parents' Home Country: Both were born in the US, but my father's family is mostly from Italy, with some ancestors from Germany and Greece, and my mother's side is from the UK, Ireland, France, and Scandinavia.

Other Spoken Laguages: English; good passive Dutch (and some sad remnants of school French that hardly count anymore)

Country of Residence: Germany (near the Dutch border)

Parents' Home Country: Germany; going some generations back you'll find ever more Dutch ancestors on my dad's side (still very obvious in our family's name, actually), and a smaller number of Polish ones, too.
