When did you first learn about sex, and what was your reaction?

Asterion Orestes

I was in third grade, so my age was around nine. I remember having to show up in the evening at school to see one or two audio-visual presentations about how kids grow into adults. Afterwards I found myself staying up late with my parents (but not my [younger] brothers). How the male & female contributions got together, it seems, had not been explained, so my parents introduced me to the concept of intercourse. I don't think the subject of erotic feelings came up. My initial reaction perhaps resembled the majority's here, though maybe milder. Sex became a potentially intimidating prospect that I didn't need to be concerned with at that point, like joining the military--something else I never did.

DracoBorealis:

(in our language the word for sex sounds similar to the word for cookie).

There's something my ethnic Finnish girlfriend never taught me!

I bet everyone had some level of curiosity because babies have to come from SOMEWHERE.

Storks..... 'nuff said.

Well when I was 4ish I thought that babies came from a woman and man loving each other then one day the woman threw up a child when they wanted one o__o As weird as that sounds, it's 100% true
That's not strange. I've seen a couple of times on kids TV where the woman hiccups or sicks up a baby. I'm 23 now, and looking back, I'm amazed kids TV was allowed to portray that. Talk about misinformation!

LOL, I don't watch them anymore. I don't even think they are still aired. I don't remember the titles, but I do know the pregnancy stuff stuck with me.

When did I first learn about sex, and what was my reaction?

I honestly can not remember, obviously an important chapter in my life. I was probably half way through a book at the time.

Actually, come to think of it, since I was reading novels about grade 4 (what ever age that is) I may found out about sex then, but was probably distracted by Ring wraiths or Nadir investing Dros Delnoch in siege. hmmm.. like those books.

I kind of figured it out more or less myself after hearing a fellow student make enough innuendos. I thought of itthe same way I thought of private parts in general: something I liked to giggle about and make a big fuss over because the adults didn't want to talk about them. However, it never even entered my mind that *I* would have sex. It was more of an abstract concept. When some kids asked me when I was going to have a boyfriend in seventh grade, I replied "When I'm twenty-seven."

I'd vaguely heard about it when I was about 7-8 since a friend of mine (same age mind you) would do jokes involving, but since it sounded like something that would hurt a lot I ignored him for the most part. Then when I was around 9-10 I was reading one book where it mentioned the main character was looking at something called porn that had naked people, and I got curious. I waited for my folks to be out of the house for work, hopped onto the computer and looked it up. To me it just looked kind of scary and gross, the ladies didn't seem to be having too much fun to my mind. Then our computer proceed to get hit with a bunch of pop-ups I had to explain to my folks XD. By now I'm still not a fan of it, either in porn or doing it myself..

I was 5 or 6 when I first saw porn ( but it wasn't penetrative more oral and eating strawberries off each other )at a relative's house .I saw both genitals and I figured out how they worked on a whim. I didn't pay much attenton to it back then.

My mom taught me about sex when I was seven because I asked her how babies were created. She was completely honest with me and didn't spare any details and even showed me a video of sperm fertilizing an egg. Of course, now that I'm older, I've learned about the different forms of sex, but my mom did teach me a lot herself, including the risks such as STDs and pregnancy( obviously ). I was encouraged to wait until I was an adult and felt ready to have sex or until I was married.

My first reaction to learning about sex was DO NO WANT EVER! Ever since I've learned about sex, I have never seen the appeal of it. I find sex interesting in a clinical sense, but I am uninterested in ever participating in the act myself.

I don't actually remember, I guess it wasn't important enough to make an impression. I do remember two things though, that are kind of fun.

I got a copy of 1984 from a friend in like 5th grade, and I remember he thought it was illicit because it had several sex scenes. The first time I read it, I just found them kind of a distracting aside;like, enough with this, lets get to more oppressive totalitarianism & telescreens!

The other thing I remember in this regard is that on my first day of the 1st grade, I happened to say the word "sex," possibly in explanation to a classmate (no idea if I knew what it meant, I was young, but read too much). Immediately I was informed by an older student that "you can't say that here-" so, of course, I repeated it very loudly several times- 'don't be silly, of course I can speak my mind-'

Then the teacher came over... thus my first real encounter with the limits of free speech.

Something whatever

First heard about it when I was 6, but I didn't properly learn about it until I was 10, in 5th grade. The teacher forced us to write essays about sex and read them out loud in front of the class. Ugh, worst class I've ever had. <_<

Dude! That's just messed up XP

We did a guys thing and a girls thing, separately. In the girls one we just learned about periods and weird hair growth... The only reaction I remember was pure embarrassment and never Ever wanting to speak of it again...

I can't remember. Probably not too interested. I suppose first learning about human sexuality might have been somewhere between 10 and 15 years old. I've really started thinking about human sexuality and sexual orientations only recently though. I started pondering what orientation I might represent at the age of 22-23 or so. After that, it didn't take long to find out that my sexuality isn't directed anywhere, and asexuality was discovered.

When I was six, my mom or dad (I don't remember which) had mentioned the idea of sex accidentally (at least, that was the impression I got) and being the curious little kid that I was/am, I inquired about what the fuck is this sex thing. When I get curious about something, I pester incessantly which was basically what I did until my mom told me the hard and dirty facts. My response was "why would anyone ever want to do that?" My mom said that it felt good. I said "I doubt that".

What a budding asexual I was.

No pun intended.

I don't know when I found out about it, it might have been a gradual thing. But I remember thinking what the point was because I didn't want to have babies. I also convinced myself that my parents only had sex twice, until one morning, me and my brother saw my parents going at it (but under the sheets). They still deny it though, of course.

When they started explaining thing in sex ed, I got curious as to what it entailed, because I didn't understand how people would have it for fun and not to have babies, so porn and fanfiction came into my life. I realized that porn was really gross, but that stories weren't so bad if the two characters loved each other and that the story wasn't just about sex. So I came to the conclusion that people have sex if they loved each other, but that it was not something I wanted to do. I didn't understand when my friends said this guy in my class or that actor in that film was hot. I considered them cute, or they looked smart, or they were pretty, but to me hot meant you might want to get into bed with them or something. I just don't use that word, although now I can see what other people might find hot. Also, the concept of one night stands was repulsing. Still is, but not as much.

For some reason, my mom told me almost everything about the act when I was six or seven. I still look at her and think " Why the French toast would you explain that to a kid?!" I am a repulsed ace except for the after effects of my discovery of porn at a young age. Because I didn't know of the exact nature of the "equipment" , I thought people doing it must look like if a pair of scissors were going at it. That is what I thought untill I saw a Kamasutra book at the store and it had a man and woman on the cover in embrace; I was like, " ohh, so it can be done comfortably."

I learned about it at age eight, when my cousin said, "Hey, you wanna know how babies are made?" I had no clue about it up till then, and learning that my own PARENTS had done it to make me made me want to scratch my skin off. Then I started spotting sexual references everywhere, which was disturbing by itself. It was like a huge government conspiracy had been right there in plain view the entire time and I was only just now noticing it. Thank God I mellowed out by age ten... I might have spent the rest of my life in the bathroom being sick.

I picked up on things here and there that I pieced together and eventually found out how it all worked

Then my mom tried to have the talk with me..well, I kind of asked her to. I got a little ways into it and said to please stop that I couldn't take hearing another word about how my parents made me....

This.

Sex never particularly interested me, and my parents never properly had The Talk with me. So due to that combination, my process of learning about sex was quite gradual.

And as I said, it didn't interested me- my reaction was rather "meh."

probably at secondary school sometime, or on tv- I thought it looked really undignified and awkward, and i also dont associate it with feelings of love- i think pornography has made me think like that

I think I was 11 or 12 years old. My parents didn't talk with me about sex, maybe they tought that the teachers will talk with us about that topic anyway. When I heard about it, I couldn't imagine how it works - I was really very naive.

I was never interested in it, and to this day that haven't changed ^_^
