Shaved Genitals

I don't really see the point. It's more of a fashion trend for a lot of people. A few decades ago it was unheard of, and now people seem brainwashed into believing doing otherwise is to be a filthy pig or something. Not to say there is anothing wrong with doing it if you want to, but yeah, it's really not necessary if you don't want to.

Also how exactly is shaving your body hair more hygenic and cleaner that leaving it be? Surely cleanliness is about how much you wash? Are you just conflating how something looks with scientific truth about how something is?

This. If you want to be clean, wash yourself. Hair is not dirt. I think I've read lots of reasons why having hair is hygeinic, actually. The only reason I can think it wouldn't be is if a woman uses pads rather than tampons, and I've never used pads so I wouldn't know about that.

from the state of modern porn I'm absolutely certain most people find it a turn-on.

I thought pubic hair shaving came from porn? I mean, that porn was why it became popular. I don't know if it started as an aesthetic thing, but I thought they shaved because it cut down on friction, and they use those parts a lot while filming.

As for myself, I am female bodied and I tried shaving once about ten years ago. I have sensitive skin and I hated everything about it. Since then, I have also stopped shaving anything else, because I don't see the point.

I agree with the people who say it should be personal preference.

I saw a documentary about how porn has changed perceptions of things (like pubic hair) and I remember one bit where the presenter asked a boy (I think he was about 15) 'what would you do if you had a girlfriend that looked like this?' *showed frontal picture of a hairy lady* and he replied, without pause, 'tell her to get rid of it'. I raged internally. It's that attitude of entitlement that I hate.

I used to wax the whole thing because I liked the way it look. But I had surgery and now it's scarred so I just keep the forest at a reasonable height. ;)

As for preference, if it was an asexual relationship then I wouldn't care. If it's a sexual relationship I'd rather the forest be pretty sparse.

This, exactly. I support the idea of anyone doing anything they want with their own body hair, but when they start saying other people's decisions are wrong or disgusting, that bothers me.

THIRDED. If I watched that documentary, I'd be raging for days. Personally, I find it weird that many people are totally grossed out by natural bodies and their functions (again I stress that _I_ find it weird, just like half of you probably think it's weird that I'm comfortable with them). Body fat, hair, fluids...no problem! I admit that where I get squirrely, is when they start directing their bodily functions at me. ;)

Just 'cause someone isn't in the garden doesn't mean it can't look tended!

^This!!!^

I trim, as well. I have found that my legs stay warmer in the winter if I don't shave them, though (go figure!). My sister raves about feeling "silky smooth" but that feeling unnerves me!

I want to remove it, permanently. I plan to, as well. I'm not sure when, though, hrm. Along with all the other body hair places that are oh so annoying, arm pits, lower legs ... GONE.I actually fully shaved for the first time a couple days ago and I love it. I seriously love it. So much nicer looking and just ... ew, hair.

Exactly this!

Also, shaving/trimming of the genital area for hygienic reasons is a perfectly valid reason. Especially when you have a heavy menstrual flow! I know I sure as hell don't want to see congealed blood hanging off me every month... I shudder at the thought.

Great Thief Yatagarasu

Okay, I'll admit, I have shaved myself there. Not completely, just a trim. Thing is, there used to be loads of hair escaping my underwear onto my legs, and it looked so gross that I shaved it off, and I trim it to stop it happening again. That's all I do. It just keeps it neat, is all, and it just feels more hygienic than it would if I were to go all natural.

I don't shave my balls though. I do know someone who did once, and his reply was "it burned like hell. Don't do it" I'm guessing he did it wrong though :P Not sharp enough of a razor maybe.

Have you tried one of those Gillette Fusions, Schick Quattros, or any of the other multi-bladed razors? It's practically impossible to nick oneself with one (although a couple of times, I shaved a head off a zit and it bled).

But using Neet or Nair on one's spheres, DO NOT try it. I did once when I was younger and dumber and it felt like I was on fire.

FWIW I prefer shaved genitals (landing strips are ok, too), but I don't prefer it out of a conscious attraction to anything pre-pubescent. I take offense to the inference that people who enjoy shaved genitals are pedophiles.

I just don't find body hair attractive (even though I have hair on my chest and back like an ape). If I quit my day job, I'd shave my head bald, too!

  • 1 month later...

I just wonder how females keep it maintained when on their periods.

I guess I'm heavier than most but I assume everyone is not too different to me, so basically even changing a pad involves loads of toilet roll, and quick action and mini-heart attacks. I couldn't have a wax, or sit around trimming here, and shaving there, the places would be a pool of gross. =S

Trim just before and trim afterwards. Mine last a week, so I can do that. Usually it takes about 3 to 6 weeks for trimmed hair to grow back to full- on natural length.

I'm a male and I like to shave (everything, accept my head) because I love that smooth feeling. If only the bodily hair would be soft like the hair I have on my head. It would feel comfy to stroke my legs, but no! its groovy and stiff. If the hair on my head was of the same type as the pubic hair I would shave it all away! Shaving is a matter of taste according to me, there is no right way.

Do what works for you!

If ya like, do! If not, you don't!

Simple Solution <3

I would like to wax some hair close to the lips bit it would kill like hell.

I hate it how girls are supposed to shave to look "sexy", and guys don't have to. Like, does that make any sense? So guys can just be bushy, and not even trim down there, and we can't? Sorry but thats fucked up. On the other hand (I know I'm contradicting myself here 8)) , I rather would shave or wax or something, because I like to be hairless. I'm scared I might get infected down there. I tried shaving, but how the hell do you get a razor in uhhh...certain places? It itches, and grows back in just a couple days! So...thats kind of on hold until I can work up the courage to get wax...

Some guys shave down there too. I'm not sure how expected it is, for males or females really, but I just thought I'd mention that.

It's pretty expected for females, thanks to the prevalence and 'success' of the porn industry. Now most males will refuse to have sex with someone who doesn't shave, and will find it 'repulsive'. Men, on the other hand, aren't really expected because 'it itches' and 'it's difficult' and basically... everything that means a woman shouldn't have to do it, either. Of course, male genitals are extremely ugly already, so I think they're the ones who should get rid of the bush...

I also find the terminology of 'landing strip' extremely offensive... anyone else?

I certainly don't shave. Rough, shaved, bumpy skin is not smooth and silky no matter how much moisturizer you chuck on it. It can never be as smooth as pre-pubescent skin anyway. On the whole I prefer a neat, hairy controlled look on myself and other men. Plus it feels better and smoother to have some hair on nicely maintained skin.

I do it. Nobody sees, I just think it's more comfortable.

Hush. You do it because you feel pressure from men, who have been brainwashed by society to think it's better this way.

None of this "it's more comfortable--even if nobody sees it" nonsense.

I trim because hair otherwise snags on my underwear, get matted during the day from fluids and menstrual blood. Yes it more hygenic to have hair than no hair, hair traps dirt away from the skin's surface, but too much gets less so. HAving too much hair makes harder keep clean and makes one smell more. That is true of pubic and underarm hair than head hair.

I want to remove it, permanently. I plan to, as well. I'm not sure when, though, hrm. Along with all the other body hair places that are oh so annoying, arm pits, lower legs ... Pretty much my sentiment. Armpit hair I want to laser it off. Leg hair I like and certainly see it as a waste to get rid of it. I like the texture of it as well, female and male.

Is that why people say it's "hygienic"?! I would never, ever even consider wearing a pad (since my second menstrual period I've worn tampons) because the thought of the blood all over it horrifies me, I've always considered tampons to keep things clean and tidy down there, and that's why I don't consider having hair to be unhygienic or whatever.

I shave-- occasionally wax-- everything or almost everything. I first shaved most of it off when I was 13, and thought I was a freak for doing so. I didn't know it was supposedly becoming a "cultural norm/preference" until later. I didn't dare get dressed in front of my friends-- they were just shaving along their bikini line at that time I think. I was on the swim team, and my swimsuit felt more comfortable that way. And I just felt cleaner.

But I agree it should always be based on your personal preference. You can look however you want to look!

The hygienic issue is a double edged sword. On one hand, having more hair down there protects the genitals from nicks, cuts, and bacteria. Being shaved, you don't have as much protection, but at the same time, more hair traps more sweat, so having less hair stifles that a bit. So it's kind of a toss up, hygienically.

Meh, I sometimes do the whole thing... but it's such a bother since there's stubble already after a couple of hours  Usually I just trim a bit so it's not a wild jungle down there :P Sometimes I like it hair free, sometimes I don't.

I'm all natural. Haters gonna hate.

You shave one part, you're gonna have to do the rest you know. Or else it looks silly.

Same. People got by without shaving until the 1990s, when porn made it popular. They got along just fine. No one told them they had hygiene issues, unless they were the type that didn't bathe much.

I tried it once about 10 years ago and didn't like it. Never again.

BTW I find it hilariously ironic that the poster before me says he doesn't manscape, and his picture is "bad fur day".

Lulz.

Since when is hair fur? :V

According to Animal Atlas, hair and fur are the same thing, it's just we humans decided to seperate humans from the rest of the animal population by saying we have 'hair' and they have 'fur'. But they are terms that can be used interchangeably. Ah, my head and it's useless information-ness.

I learned something today!

actually no.

Hair continues growing, fur has a length limimt.

Which means horses manes/tails are hair, poodles and a few breeds of dogs have hair, I think persian cats have hair(idk), but most animals have fur.

On that argumment I'd say pubes and body hair are fur :P

Trimmed when it bothers me. Too long is itchy, fully shaved is itchy.. soo.
