Well?

I think of AVEN chiefly as my social group. A place I can go and be goofy (or serious) with a group of people I'm comfortable with.

I'm addicted. But it might be a social group, I don't know, I've never seen one before.

What I meant by that is that, to me, being asexual is a non-issue. If it comes up in conversation here I'll talk about it, but for the most part I just like hanging here with a group of people I'm comfortable with. Occasionally I'll think...'Hey, the people here are nearly all a! Huh.' Then I'm back to being goofy or reviewing films/books/whatever.

I regard this as a social group. Maybe I'm lucky, in that I'm "older" and don't feel the intense need for support that I once did. But... moral support is nice too :D .

Well, I haven't been a member for very long and am just now starting to build an identity as an asexual, so for me there are still a lot of issues to talk about and arguments to have, but I also really like it as a social group. I don't know any asexuals in real life (that I know of) and it's great to be part of a community of people who are somewhat like me. There are a lot of funny, smart, nice people here to chat about asexual stuff and other stuff with, and you all never fail to make me think and see things from a new perspective, whatever we may be discussing.

My vote was for "other"; my primary reason at this time is to sort out which aspects of how I view sexuality and physicality are most likely direct results of my asexuality, and which are not. I've learned that many things, from the way bodily fluids gross me out to my lack of libido, are pretty standard for asexuals, and that other things, such as my graphic sexual fantasies and appreciation of porn, are unusual enough among asexuals to possibly be due to other factors, such as fetishism.

My secondary reason is to make my feelings and experiences available for other people, so that some of them can read them and realize that what they have thought and felt is NOT some freakish thing unique to them.

My reasons for being here vary with how i'm feeling. It ranges from seeing if anyone has posted anything interesting to finding more people to bug in IM.

For me its more than just a social group, I get some moral support just by having you guy here. That and asexuality is an interesting topic overall.

I'm kind of leaning toward social group, but I'm not really sure, so I didn't vote.

I like it here, and I'm comfortable with my asexuality so I don't really need support or questions answered. So I guess social group is the best answer.

Its primarily a social group to me now. When I first arrived there was a lot I wanted to discover, so it was more of a support group. Then it became a bit of a cause to me to raise awareness of asexuality (this period has only just ended really). Now I don't feel there is much left for me to discuss about it and I'm more confident that this is truly who I am, I just enjoy the banter. I spend WAY too much time here though, so I think my New Year's resolution will be to cut down on the AVENing a bit!

Rubbish! Complete rubbish!

Don't you start cutting back, or I might have to take steps! *waves stapler*

(Oh, and social group mostly with a few others mixed in)

Well, it's either the stapler or...other means. *arches eyebrows* *hides hammer and railroad spikes behind back*

*giggles* nobody is here to discuss asexuality!

I'm addicted to AVEN, and it's like the only web forum I actually belong on. Makes me feel all warm an' special.

I guess it's a "social" group. I mean, this is probably the most socializing I do! Because I'm too cool for living in the real word. (Yes, I am making a mockery of myself). And of course moral support is always a bonus.

Originally AVEN was my support group but, over time, it has become my social group.

ditto on both.

Obviously people are, because I see plenty of asexuality-related discussion going on!

But I suppose that most people would find it fairly dry if the *only* topic of discussion was asexuality. It's the varied content which makes AVEN so popular, and makes people stay.

This is exactly me.

I chose the combination because I think the first three apply to me at the moment. I think it will become more and more of a social over time.

By the way, there is absolutely no reason why anyone should cut-down on Aven unless it's having an adverse effect on some part of your life.

(So if I fail my exams in January, I'm blaming you guys for getting me addicted! :D )

I was going to start a poll, to find out how much time everyone spent here, but I not sure about options. Somebody want to do it for me?

I think my dinner it burning. Now, look what you made me do...

How about: I spend so much time on AVEN I burn my dinner.

I spend so much time on AVEN my house has been cleaned in weeks.

I spend so much time on AVEN my dogs have learned to use the loo.

For me, I'm still in the figuring things out stage so it's more to look at to raise issues relating to my asexuality that I'd maybe never thought about specifically before and to work it all out in my head.

Over time, it may become more than that, but there are other forums which I see as being "my social group". Maybe this will join the others, I've got no problems if it does (other than losing what remains of my spare time ;)), but at the moment that's a secondary function.

I really like the people here (<3), and I enjoy the chance to dust off my logical thinking skills. Discussing a topic close to me with others of the same viewpoint (or a different one, you crazy sexual lurkers) is really enjoyable.

These peoples are lovely to be social with; it's also nice that I can be completely me without any funny looks! It's very moral supporty too, and I do visit it for A news, because I want to know when we become known and recognised and it becomes ok, normal, for me to be A. It would be nice for people to understand that.

I think it’s become more or less completely social for me, as quite a few people have already opined about themselves also. I think it’s good that we still discuss the mores and why’s and wherefores of asexuality, but that per se wouldn’t really sustain my interest. In fact the variety of topics and the members’ often humorous and clever way of indulging in the whole sport of it, is what does make it such a great community. And as with any community you’re part of, you want to check in as often as possible to see what’s going on..who’s doing what, and with what, and to whom. It’s my online equivalent of the local pub really.

I’ve always been very fond of writing..anything really; so it’s a good way of sharing a bit, or a lot of text, instead of it languishing here on this machine.

But outstandingly, I love the ‘goofiness’ of some of these threads. Hilarious some of them. And that’s a compliment. You’re a mighty fine bunch of people – and that’s really why I visit so often.

Cheers me dears,

Kev
