What do other countries' people think of Russia by the way? Finnish people think they're all loud and arrogant upstarts who come to Finland to shop and look down on Finns. And all love their country even though it sucks and they know it. But I wonder, what do the people whose country hasn't had a horrible war with them think?

Well, Americans think that Russians are all alcoholics.

Haahahahaha well there are a few archetypes of Russian personalities in the American consciousness, some of which are surprisingly positive, given their history:

1. They all drink vodka and are alcoholics.

2. They were more 'honorable' than the enemies we have nowadays.

3. They produce brilliant scientists (Probably the legacy of Tesla and the fact that they beat us into space.)

4. They're tough bastards.

*Nods head* Exactly, the underwater train! (I thought that that was the name, but didn't have time to go double check)

The best (worst?) stereotype I've ever heard is this one:

Never met a nice South African

My Dad was South African and he always thought the song was hilarious.

I think the stereotype of out-and-out racism still applies - apartheid is not dead, especially with people from my Dad's generation. I've almost choked - on more than one occasion - when I've heard some of the things the white folk say about the black folk.

As for the English, I don't think we are particularly educated (despite what the accent would have you believe!). We're lazy/workshy, arrogant, have no interest in politics, refuse to learn other languages (because everyone else speaks English, right?). If we find someone who doesn't speak English we seem to think the problem can be solved BY SHOUTING AT THEM!!! We can't handle our drink and are an embarrassment abroad.

That said, our sense of humour is second to none!

I use to think stereotypes were really funny until I moved to Europe. :( I feel my sense of humor has faded, but I think that's because I have to listen to american stereotypes almost 5 days a week. :/

A few of these were funny though.

I'm sorry, but all the sterotypes about australians are amazing, and the threat level post made me crack up once I got to the australian bit. I'm quite patriotic and will return once I get my degree here. Australia is the best country! Except for the censorship and deadly wildlife and no snow. I love snowboarding now...

Apparently all tibetans are monks, all chinese are amoral, danes are porn-lovers and belgians are eccentric candymakers.

Oh, and Scots are humble, close-knit people who hate rain and are very brave.

Swedes are dumb.

If you live in the US, there might actually be a truth behind that stereotype. It seems that a lot of Swedish youths who study in the US are stupid people who've come there to party, not to learn anything.

SWEDISH THREAT LEVELS:

"I agree with you, but..."

"I don't really agree with you"

"That was not very nice."

"Shame on you! We're very upset!"

i love it when I tell people I'm originally from Malaysia, they automatically ask me "what is that" instead of "where is it located". Some even thinks Malaysia is part of the Philippine islands. Some dumb asses I met assumed Asian women are submissive and tamed......seriously?....They even asked me "so I heard (you people) are shy and reserved, what do you do for fun?"

I replied " for starters, I drink, break dance, smokes pot and bump to reggaeton...what was that again mother fucker?"

I'm sorry. I had to Wikipedia Malaysia... Not that I haven't heard the name.

Chinese stereotype: All Chinese people are either merciless, super rich businessmen or dying of starvation in the countryside. And the TV sure makes that stereotype stronger.

Finnish threat levels:

"It'd be nice if you stopped that, please?"

"We don't approve."

*snap*

"WE'LL FIGHT TILL THE LAST MAN!!"

The last one based on the Winter War. Look at the statistics..

I had a classmate from Malaysia. I didn't know anything about the country before she told me (but I DID know that it existed, and where it is). Now Malaysia is on the list of places I want to visit :)

Malaysia is not well known but we are a multi-cultural nation with Islam as our base religion. I am not religious but I respect our country a lot. Many Indian Malaysians brought in Delicious Curry dishes and a lot of Malaysian learned English in school

Americans think the British are all smart because of their posh accent. Oh, and they're all rich, too. And they all drive a Bentley, and live in a manor house, and have a butler.

Really? Ha! ...Most of us just speak in our local dialect (Brummie/Scouser/Cockney etc) - only royalty/politicians talk 'posh'. And as much as I'd love to live in a manor house and have a butler, reality begs to differ <_<

All British accents sound posh to Americans. Exept that one...I forget what it's called, but it's all like 'OI GUV'NAH'

I'm going to share some of Venezuelan ones. I disagree with those stereotypes, this is not my opinion, but what you can hear around here, this don't represent all Venezuelan society but a part of it anyway. I don't mean to offend anyone, so take it just as what it's, just stereotypes:

1. Turk, for sure someone from Turkey and everyone that belong to the League of Arab States. They love selling things and that's what they are good at. Actually Turk its a slang for a seller; you can use it like this for example: "My cousin is such a Turk, she didn't make a good offer, What a Turk!". Beside that, they have a crazy religion, "what's the name? Musleem? Mislam? well, I don't know, but its crazy and I wouldn't burn my ass for 10 virgins".

2. Chinese are everyone from East Asia, because it's the same and they all look like the same. "Yesterday I talked by phone during 5 minutes with Chinese from Japan! As every Chinese I can tell that he is smart, he is thin, he don't know how to dance, he is very quiet and not fun at all".

3. Latin Americans: Mexican are male chauvinist, even women are; Peruvian are ugliest in the Earth; Argentinean are arrogant. Colombians... you better stay away! there is actually a saying that people use when they talk about Colombians, it goes like this: "Si no lo hacen a la entrada, lo hacen a la salida" (the translation for it its: "If they don't do it when they arrive they will when they leave" -wich mean they will fu#$% you anyway).

4. Americans love to show off and hate people for South America, because they all think we are inferior. "Why do they dare to think that we are inferior? I don't know, but hey! I love McDonald's, I wear Nike, I buy my clothes in Miami, well I buy everything that's from North America, because its the best".

5. Europeans: They are cold, they don't know how to love; Spanish are hardcore, they party very wild and a bit gay, French are way too gay! but they don't party than hardcore as Spanish does; Italians are stingy and Germans are hot (handsome).

6. Africans are dark skin, period.

Well, I could add some more but I guess people will think I'm acting as a troll or something  LOL. As I said this is not my opinion, those are phrases that you can easily hear from some people here :o

Ahaha XD Europeans are cold! At least our climate is, compared to Venezuela ^^ (I'm sorry, I had to check where it is from Google Maps. I really should study Geography...)

I wonder. Maybe Europeans really show their feelings less? Ah well, that's us Finns alright... There's a German exchange student in my school right now, and she said she finds Finns a little hard to approach, and also Germans seem to come physically closer to people when they talk, while Finns find that uncomfortable. Maybe we have so much more space around us, we'll be alarmed if someone comes closer than needed

Also the stereotype that Europeans are all cultured, healthy and fit, intelligent, compared to Americans :P

but that really isn't saying much concidering the American stereotype is ignorant, fat and lazy, and stupid compared to just about anyone.

On the other hand, someone once asked my friend whether America is in Europe... There are lots of stupid Europeans too.

I've noticed that contradictory stereotypes can coexist. For example:

"Germans are orderly"/"Germans are loud and drink a lot of beer".

"Danes are friendly and cordial"/"Danes don't like anybody who's not Danish".

"Chinese are wise and Chinese culture is less money-oriented than European culture."/"Chinese can sell their grandmother for money".

(These are stereotypes from Sweden)

Maybe Germans are orderly when arent drinking a lot of beer.

Maybe Danes are frindly and cordial only with others Danes.

Maybe Chinese once their sell their grandma have money enought for not caring anymore about money, or they just want to sell their grandmore because they dont love them. lol XD
