merlinda
This is from the Hindustani Times, on October 18th: Sorry, not interested October 18 Just when we were getting used to the notion of referring to a man who’s attracted to women and yet is fond of plucking his eyebrows and manicuring his nails as a metrosexual, we get a new category of sexual behaviour: the asexual. So far restricted to describing earthworms, microbes and Englishmen with a hot water bottle fetish, asexuality has been ‘outed’ as not an inability to have sex, but a disinterest in the Other Great Game. According to the New Scientist, as many as one out of 100 people prefer to have no interest in being sexually active despite being sexually healthy. But is the new category of asexuals — with their ‘Proud to be A’ t-shirts — yet another example of the march of the super-set which goes under the name of ‘political correctness’? Giving a name to people with minority views or behavioural patterns makes them feel less awkward, more ‘belonging’. So while homosexuality has become an alternative sexual lifestyle that no longer needs to be necessarily tucked inside the closet, asexuality could be the ‘new’ sexual movement. In case one thought it’s only the nerds and wallflowers who’re marching for ‘A pride’, there are celebrities who’ve publicly stated that sex doesn’t interest them — although for Madonna, it might have been a case of familiarity with the hormones ultimately breeding disinterest. But don’t worry about your date announcing after the romantic dinner that he or she is an ‘asexual’. Things would have been a lot worse if you were a rat — 12 out of 100 of them utter ‘Sorry honey, I’ve got a headache tonight’ before switching the lights off.

Spirit of the Universe
In case one thought it’s only the nerds and wallflowers who’re marching for ‘A pride’, there are celebrities who’ve publicly stated that sex doesn’t interest them This supporting statement is completely useless and typical of today's gossips. Asexuals don't need celebrities to be recognized as "something". I don't think we even need to be recognized, for asserting our presence is quite enough. Dissident
I find it endlessly amusing that not having sex now needs legitimacy. "You don't want sex? What kind of pervert are you?" In case one thought it’s only the nerds and wallflowers who’re marching for ‘A pride’, there are celebrities who’ve publicly stated that sex doesn’t interest them Isn't this sort of working off the usual assumption that people are only A if they can't get any, and thus people are suprised when people who are quite capable of getting some just don't want to? Because, you know, you couldn't possibly not be interested in banging your wobbly bits against other people...
