I think that is what would be referred to as a pornographic code in cultural studies, those codes (borrowed from porn) are so ingrained in western culture that we don't notice them anymore (although they are extensively used to sell 'products'). However I doubt it is the sort of pose one would find in Renaissance paintings (or chinese art?). I assume the artist chose the poses and he seems to enlarge the breasts in some pictures (compare with others and photo). I doubt there would be no effects of gravity when she's lying on her back unless she has breast implants(?). If she does, did she get them for the modelling? Has he been painting her naked all her life or specifically now because of her (sexually) appealing body? In either case, how much agency has she had as the object, and in chosing to be the object? Does she feel compelled to pose for her dad or does she like posing but would only pose for him because it has (allegedly) no sexual connotation? There is an ethical issue with the former and the power inequality in the relationship. I'm not sure where it falls on the spectrum in comparison to exchanging your daughter for cattle or coercing an attractive daughter to marry someone's bank account and status. But she seems well past the stage of puberty. I can't find anywhere saying her actual age, but she looks over 18 (in the paintings at least). So why is it controversial? Its pretty much the same as just hiring a nude model, or asking one of your friends to do it. If the daughter was fine with it then what's the problem? Link to post Share on other sites

I don't see why sexuals cannot separate nudity and sexuality. Do you think all the men in my art club are sexually attracted to the nude female model we hire too?. Yes but I think the fact it is his daughter stops it being sexual. Fathers might accidently see their teenage daughters naked- do you think it makes them horny? No way. When you get to know somebody so well, you don't see them in a sexual way. Brothers and sisters see their siblings naked while growing up, but it doesn't mean anything. Well, there's always exceptions. Maybe this guy is a pervert. But I doubt it. Anyway, the girl is old enough to make her own decisions, so I say let him paint her if they really want to.
