It was suuuuuper popular where I live (northeastern US) when I was a kid. Not the absolute most popular girl’s name but very close. A lot of our names are now the “Mavis” and “Gertrude” of the current generations.
Semisweet
I’m pretty confident about never seeing my name misappropriated for a meme, as there were only two years in the last century when it cracked even the top 40 among US baby girl names. And these days it ranks more like 800th. Sometimes when giving my name over the phone to someone who doesn’t know me, I imagine them thinking, “Must be an older woman.”
daveb
A better trend would be if these things veered away from specific names, but names are easy to latch onto. Another hot migraine-y day. Too bad the grocery store was out of my usual otc nighttime aspirin. On the bright side I am not entirely out of supply at home. I'll get over the funk sooner or later. It's what I do. 😐
Gentle Giant
I know some people with the name Karen. Sorry @Ms Terry the misuse of your name has you down and reminds you of being bullied. Hopefully as some say here that it will fall out of use someday. Yes, it is easy these days to feel down or moody. Hope people feel better soon. This year has been terrible. It seems to have gone by fast, yet feels so slow. Can’t wait for it to be over with. Hope next year we’ll be past the bad stuff going on and we’ll all have a much better year and beyond. I did some more cleaning and organizing today. The room looks better now. But have a long way to go to get a really good clean out.
Tyke
I have recently become involved with a piece of local woodland. It is to a large part used for growing hazel which is coppiced on a cyclical basis. There are masses of brambles in there as well (as is normal around here). It isn't open to the public but I've been allowed occasional access. I picked 650g of hazelnuts (also known as Cob nuts or Filberts) and 800g of blackberries over a couple of visits this weekend. Hazelnut picking season is almost over (or it looks like it, anyway) but I could be eating blackberries for another month at least, I think, if I want to. As a 'townie' this is quite a (pleasant) change for me.

Gentle Giant
Oh I see now that filberts is another name for hazelnuts. So then I have had them and like them.

We have quite a few bushes along the main trail/two track in our woodlot.

Tja
Have your Dr's ever suggested botox shots, @daveb & @ryn2? I've heard they're effective for migraines.

I actually need to go back to my neurologist as it has been a long time since I looked at treatment options. Afaik Botox is still only approved for people who have 15 or more migraine days, with pain lasting at least four hours each, per month. Most months I don’t hit that threshold (especially the pain part; I often have migraine without headache). I do know a couple of people who have had quite a bit of improvement with it.
will123
Pics from my northern Ontario trip last week Farm country near New Liskeard Tree line on west side of highway is a windbreak to reduce drifting snow in the winter. I've pretty much snowmobiled throughout the area shown in the photos over the years. Camped at Esker Lakes Provincial Park Prospector's claim stake in town park for demonstration purposes. Gold mine in Kirkland Lake The following pics are from two different bridges over a lake that I was first on back in 1979 as a Junior Ranger Hauling waste rock More of Lake Mistinikon In this pic, we camped on the canoe trip just around the point on the left side. You can see the remains of a barite mine on the right hand shore Another Bailey bridge (developed during WWII) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bailey_bridge Looking north Warning to stay away from barite mine site Another view of the lake we finished our canoe trip on Gold mine near Matachewan Ontario Panagapka Lake in the evening Sausage Lake

That's about an eight hour drive due north of Toronto. To get to the Manitoba border, about two and a half days. I did it once in a day and a half, but wouldn't attempt it again.
ryn2
It looks flatter than Algonquin PP, which is the farthest north I’ve been. Don’t know if that’s true overall or just right where you were.

Just read this out of the order and thought you were talking about the electronic type of blackberry. Then I saw the comment from someone else that blackberries are so delicious and realized my error. 😁

There is a very large expanse of flat arable land from New Liskeard to Englehart, the farms were combining grain last week. Five large combines in one filed last Monday when we were driving north (bout an hours south of the provincial park).

One also has to have tried and failed drugs in a couple of other categories before being considered for Botox--can't remember the categories off the top of my head, though, as it's been a few years since I had to get prior authorization for patients! But the insurance companies were militant about having everything documented. A patient couldn't just say they had tried something, there had to be proof that they had been prescribed it and for how long. But it's an expensive treatment and the insurance companies would prefer not to pay for it, even if it helps. Needless to say, I HATED having to deal with them. Thank goodness I no longer have to.
ryn2
Ah, okay, makes sense. When I’ve gone to APP it’s been up around the west end of the lake, so out more where ceebs lives. I’ve been around the east end to Kingston/some of the small lakes in the Rideau chain but not farther north.
cdrdash
@will123. Nice pictures. The lakes looked familiar to me and I remembered that when I was 18 years old I went on a canoe trip at Lake Temagami which looks to be south of Esker Lake. Brought back good memories but also memories of really bad mosquitos at one of the places we camped! Cathy

XD LOL The distances can be overwhelming to some folks (even Canadians). In 95 when I drove out west, I visited with four folks that had moved out to Alberta and British Columbia. My renter at the time knew them all but grew up with one of them. After my return, he was talking to his friend (near Calgary) on the 'phone who had told that I had visited, now it was his turn. He says to me, "It's a couple of days driving eh?" I told him he could try that, but likely would be in a ditch west of Thunder Bay if he tried that nonsense. I'm just guessing but Toronto to Calgary would be four and a half days of 'reasonable' driving.
