LOL No it's nobody here! :) Just some stupidity elsewhere on AVEN.

Where else can you go on AVEN? I thought it was just the forums 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Nice visit and the scattering of ashes went well.  I am now on my way home.  I am in a hotel near the Toronto airport.  My flight leaves at 8:16 am.  So I will be up at 5:30 am to take the shuttle to the airport to give myself 2 hours to get through security etc.  Pictures will come later this week.

I want to live in Hawaii.

On the plane to Kauai now, the wet clothes from my last swim on Oahu in my lap. 🤣

Yesterday ended up being rather misspent, I was at the social club, and we had a bit of a post-cricket celebration which resulted in not going to bed until 0100,

Yay for celebrations, @Skycaptain  I hope the kitties were kind this morning and didn't wake you too early.  I was quite excited yesterday to see a grass snake having a swim.  I celebrated in true Ace fashion with a cup of tea and a piece of cake. :)

@Mz Terry, that's unusual to see grass snakes swimming.

Meow o'clock was 0530:unsure:

@Skycaptain They do swim quite often, but, yes, it was great to actually see it.  And a good long view, not just a glimpse.

That was a cool video, @Mz Terry.  I always thought that most snakes could swim.

Good for you and celebrating until 1 AM, @Skycaptain.  It has been a while since I stayed up that late reveling.  Did you retrieve your camera and have a good visit with your Mum?

Glad you are enjoying your vacation, @pickles mcgee.  You are giving me an idea for a vacation destination in January.  Kauai.

I’m glad I’m using a bedroom that has not just one but two doors (one at the far end of a hallway) between me and the morning cat singers.

They are plotting and will find a way in.

I’ve been using it since 2004 and no one has yet!

My old cat learned I get up when I get up. But maybe he wasn't as persistent about trying to wake me up as some cats (nothing like Simon's Cat!).

I woke up to a little rain. :D This is the kind of Summer I like! I am definitely not a tropical person. :)

We went to Waimea Bay yesterday on my last day on Oahu. Saw lots of spinner dolphins leaping and twirling in the bay. They come straight up out of the water and spin before diving back down. Such a sight!

And we jumped off the famous big rock that I used to jump off when I was going to school near there in 1977 (32 ft./10 m). I was pleased that it was just as "not scary but deliciously exciting" as it had been 42 years ago. I'm feeling buff. 😊

Also went to an arts festival and watched the dancing. We'd seen the women practicing earlier in the week when we went to what my friend thought was a free hula class, but turned out to be a practice for this performance. My friend's husband is half Fijian, and she and her kids have really gotten into the dancing (taking classes and performing on the mainland; they live in Utah). They are good!

Such a wonderful last day on Oahu, and now I'm on Kauai at Poipu Beach while my friend who lives here is still at work. I'm sitting in the shade of a short palm tree (the tall ones don't give much shade 😋), and there's a beautiful rooster crowing two feet from me. He wants more of my pumpkin muffin, but he and I and all the other birds have polished it off. There are wild chickens on many of the islands; Kauai is famous for having the most.

Postscript: I think I'm being too vigilant with the sunscreen. My legs have no color whatsoever; they are still glow-in-the-dark.

Managed to meet up (separately in different parts of the province) with two asexuals today. Really great chats about our identities and other interesting topics.

Well worth the planning :) Logistics were tricky due to the traffic as you can well imagine in Toronto and not knowing where the Tim Hortons (a well known Canadian fast food chain and NHL player from the 60s and 70s) was in Cobourg ;)

Autumn Sunrise

Sounds like lots of people are enjoying beautiful holidays :D I'm happy for you all!

I'm fairly housebound at the moment after a shoulder muscle reconstruction, with my right arm in a bulky sling (nicknamed "Buttercup" by my daughter, for some unknown reason ). I did make two long trips to the City recently (daughter was driving) because Tosca (our smallest cat) had a serious bladder problem and needed surgery at a specialist animal hospital. It was a pretty anxious time, but she's back home now, sooo happy and doing well so far - fingers crossed. It's amazing what vet surgeons can do for tiny animals, but a bit scary how much that can cost  . . . now we need to work on building up our savings again. Thank goodness we were able to  save her life - we've had her for a long time and she's definitely "one of the family"!

We've had some crazy weather lately - the kind where the weather report says something like "temperature 2 degrees, feels like minus 7". Very windy, and we've had a bit of welcome rain too. Further west, most of the state has been in drought for a long time, people in the towns have severe water restrictions as their reservoirs are nearly empty, and many farmers are facing ruin. The phrase, "praying for rain" takes on a whole new meaning! I'm not a praying person, but my heart goes out to them . . . we are really very lucky here!

Have a good rest-of-the-week, everyone! :)

It came together in a couple of days. @hc442013 contacted me from Toronto which worked out OK as I had to go to a city just NW of T.O. and then @Fox on the run messaged me a day or so later. Her town is south of where I live, so met her on the way home.

Gotta love it when a plan works out 8)

You've never heard of suck it up buttercup?

At least if you were housebound, you wouldn't have crossed paths with these 'hardened criminals':

@pickles mcgee, seeing those dolphins sounds a brilliant experience

@Autumn Sunrise, hope Tosca and your convalescences are trouble-free

Everyone on our estate had an unwelcome surprise last night - no water after the main burst. Luckily rainwater butts can be used for flushing duties.

I'm envious of your Hawaii travels @pickles mcgee!  I loved Kauai and if I'd had a way to stay, I would have.

I had to laugh when you described the jungle fowl because there is a story about that (or course). They were domestic until freed during a hurricane in the 90s and now they have the nickname of "the pigeon of Hawaii" .. not flattering, and they are literally everywhere.  I recall when we drove up into what we thought were the wilds of the national park, got out of the car and then "cock a doodle dooooooooo" echoed out of the wilderness.

Sort of the chicken version of Tarzan.

Thanks for all the interesting updates, everyone.

About half of my Canada pictures were private ( people who have requested not to be on social media ) but here is the half that is not private: https://photos.app.goo.gl/qeEpVVekKQAAREND7 .  Most of the pictures are from a 2 hour walk I took from our cottage to the log flume that is a creek that flows into the bay that was used many many years ago to transport logs to the bay.   This is one of my favorite walks in the whole wide world!!

There is one picture of my hand with a spot of blood where a nasty biting fly got me   I also arrived home with about 7 mosquito bites.  They were outdoors and got in the cottage a little bit.  It was a bit maddening the first night when a single mosquito (or many different ones but not at the same time) kept making that awful whining sound right next to my ear.  I kept pulling the covers over my head to get away from it but then would get hot and creep out again.  Suffice to say that first night I slept badly.  Thankfully night two, the mosquitoes were gone.  Have no clue why but got a much better night's sleep!

Just got back from a day at work.  I have three more to go until vacation number 2.  I'll be at Glacier National Park for 7 days and on the road for 4 days.  Then I'll have a stay-cation for the last 5 days.  I'm really feeling burned out at work and am looking forward to getting away from it for 2 weeks!  I have been warned by the tour company that the wifi is bad in the lodges at Glacier National park and to not count on it.  So you may have a 7 day silence from me on this thread if they prove correct.
