We've been contacted for some people to do interviews with Penthouse for an article they're writing. A few of us think this is a bad idea because asexuals--even closet ones--probably don't use porn. So here's a poll to see how many AVENites actually use some sort of pornography.

I'm editing this--it's not important if you use any porn--only if you read Penthouse.

I wasn't even sure if Penthouse was porn, I was just guessing because I thought I heard it was. Yeah, despise porn...know nothing of this "penthouse".

I would never waste money buying it, but I have read through it in the past when it was laying around at a friend's house. I wasn't particularly disturbed by or interested in the photos *shrug* After girl's gym?

There might be asexuals who enjoy magazines of that sort, but I doubt if there would be very many. It might drum up more media interest just because of the novelty factor, though.

Davey, what should I change/add? 'I'd buy it if I could?'

Penthouse = no. Playboy, every now and then. Honestly, Playboy does have some pretty good articles & interviews every now and then. Penthouse and the rest are all pretty much smut though - though Penthouse does make the effort every now & then.

I've seen penthouse... It's a bit too hardcore for my taste.

Playboy... i own a playboy (One with Tory Wilson from the WWE in it.. I'm a wrestling freak!) Playboy has goot pictures that are erotic while being in good taste (unlike the penetration pics found in penthouse). It also has good articles because they have GOOD writers doing stuff for them... again unlike penthouse.

Some of my favorite musical artists have had interviews in playboy and penthouse... that would be the only reason why I would buy them. Of course I'd tear out the pages I liked and throw the rest away... provocatively nude ladies, not for me.

I've not voted because none of the options apply to me. I have read Penthouse in the past, I found the articles interesting and the photography, while not up to the high artistic standards Playboy sometimes manages, wasn't anything like as repulsive to me as the cheap pr0n mags are.

Comnsidering the fetish thread though, I suspect some of us do use images for erotic stimulation, however they may not be the images found in mainstream erotica.

Having a feature in Penthouse might be a good idea, as it might be a way to reach asexuals living with sexual partners (esp asexual women with sexual men), and thus help a few more people (and their partners) realise they're not broken, just different.

I'd say go for it.

Well, you left out Yes, I like the pictures and No, I don't read Penthouse but I read other such publications and No, I prefer to get my porn from the web and No, not since the incident with the noodles.

The whole corporate pornography thing isn't for me, but only because of it's contrived qualities. If I am going to see a nude figure (preferably male), I want it to be natural process. Plus some -maybe most- of these porn magazines have some of the most hilarious positions that no normal sexual could do.

No way would I ever read anything like Penthouse. For me, it is like asking a vegetarian if they buy steak. I couldn't contemplate it.

It doesn't appeal to me in any way to buy pornography of any shape or form.

Things have changed a lot over the years. November issue, newsstand price US$7.99. Both the pictorials (4) and the adverts contain full, open depictions of naked female (and some male) folk, as well as hetero, lesbian, and solitary sexual acts of various sorts, including penetration with anatomical appendages and sex toys. Nuff said of that.

Articles: 20 Worst College Football Teams, George Butler interview supporting John Kerry, The ford 150, Justice by Alan Dershowitz on the theme of home movies of sex acts showing up online. Tantric Turn-ons.

Taking it Off to Turn Her On (appears to be advice from woman to men), Rendezvous in Monte Carlo (erotic fiction), Stand-up Guys (a article about a comedian??), The Unrepentant Voyeur, Thanksgiving (three pages of sex-themed cartoons about the holiday). Various columns and cartoons.

Make up yer minds; that's why ya got 'em.

No, never have. Some of the pictures feature penetration? Ugh.

I cannot decide if magazines like that are an insult to those women. Sure, they get paid well enough, but are they respected? Sure, it's their "choice", but would they do it if they were offered another job of equal salary? In my mind, it's like prostitution. Prostitutes may "choose" to do what they do (unless they are coerced into it) but would they if they had enough money? I doubt it. Seems to only be a "choice" for lower-income women.

Without meaning any disrespect, I suggest we stay on topic here: Is this a magazine we want one of us to be interviewed for?

Davey, I only added the second 'Yes' option because we're only discussing Penthouse and not all porn. Thanks for the suggestion.

I've gone from being completely against it--to being undecided with a slight bias towards 'NO!'

I get that perhaps some person will actually read the article and think they know someone like that, but what're they going to say, 'Hey, Bob, I read this article...uh...somewhere and it reminded me of you!...No, I'm not going to show you the article.' The best that could come of it would be if some guy realised his wife was asexual and stopped blaming her for not being interested in sex. The worst is we'll have to rename the site Troll City. You reap what you sow: if you advertise in a place frequented by people who love sex you're going to get a LOT of people who don't understand why everyone doesn't love sex.

At first I was of the 'NO F***ING WAY!' opinion.

Then I had a chance to calm down and think about it and I was more like 'Umm...wellll... is it really so bad?'

Now I am inclined to say 'no' just because it is making so many people here uncomfortable and because there is a high probability of it leading to trolling, which is just too stressful and could potentially scare people away.

was there as much doubt and uncomfort around here with the Sex Files? I don't know why the Penthouse issue is making such a fuss....

But the sex files came out before the published visibililty and no trolls came out of the woodworks from that, knock on wood...

I think the biggest worry is that people who buy Penthouse _generally_ arent asexual, and they would think 'oo, look, people who dont want sex! Lets go harrass them!'

The sex files wasnt as bad because ( as far as I can tell ) it isnt associated with a particular group of people, where as Penthouse is.

But I could be wrong.

Exactly. It was something aired on the Discovery Channel. Not MTV. If MTV wanted to do a show about us I'd be worried about that, as well.

I think the likelihood of reaching other asexuals through this magazine, short of some crazy coincidental reason they might have the magazine is essentially none.

If we're just looking for visibility or education of society in general--then if you can guarantee the article will be respectful then I don't see the harm.

But compared to all the other requests we've gotten lately--I'd put this toward the bottom of the list in order of importance.
