Luisa Posted February 28, 2003 Share Posted February 28, 2003 I took the advice of...some other artist on this board...sorry, forgot who right now, but if you'd like to pop up and take credit, feel free. I did an "asexual painting" to include with my "Exhibition Collection," which is my pool of paintings that I include at my exhibitions. The painting is predominantly grey and black...it's a cement wall. There are various works of grafitti on it, but the most large and most obvious words/images are a red arrow pointing at the words "Fuck Sex," also in red. This is surrounded by yellow, and it really draws the eye, compared to other things on the "wall." So, I borrowed the "asexual art" idea, and I borrowed the "Fuck Sex" expression...but I came up with something that will contribute to the visibility of asexuality whenever it is exhibited. Since I have a habit of complaining that half the commercials on TV tell you that drugs support terrorism, and that the other half of all commercials are telling you to use this drug or that drug (um, I mean, "medicine") to help you to "feel normal again," I have done another painting in my "socially aware" series. This one has a blue-green background, and has all kinds of ads for various meds pasted on it. (I did NOT exempt "Viagra" nor "Avlimil" from this list.) One question is how well these things are going to "adhere," but I guess we'll find out... I then painted over, in red, "Only Losers Use Drugs." And I painted a small pot leaf below that. ----------------------------- I hope that the painting is able to get the point across to people that the only drugs that are OK are the ones that the government makes money on... ...and also, I hope it promotes the idea that you don't really NEED to take any pills to "improve" yourself. (I'm not speaking of medical conditions that require medications, but rather, of things where the main "selling point" is that your self-image will be much improved from taking this or that drug.) --------------------------------- After I take photos, I'll try to get them scanned in, and somehow, make it so that you can see them. I'm trying to think of creative and personal ways that I can spread "visibility," and still feel comfortable with it. Again, I really appreciate your support on my Art project(s.)
