I had heard that alfred hitchcock was asexual. He was that filmmaker dude who made films like 'psycho' and 'the birds', he also had a television mystery program where he started off the show every night with his catchphrase 'good eeevening' (1955-1965). Hedied in 1980.

I was watching a documentary on him and it said that a friend had shown him a vintage pornography film and instead of finding it 'sexy' he said he found sex to be a combination of intriguing and disturbing. Many of his friends suspected him of asexuality, and no one has ever come out as having any kind of relationship with him that way.

Just something else i thought you all might like to know......

that's interesting actually ... I never thought of it as being a pointer to my being asexual, but I always had one of two reactions to porn:

1. hated it / revulsed / disgusted

2. (with porn movies) sit there and laugh at it disconnectedly and how crappy the plots were

several of my ex's thought it would "turn me on" - it had the opposite effect and they got all frustrated :P

Ok, tell me if you agree

1.) Porn films-discusting, and rather retarted

2.) Sitcoms-piss me off, because the plot somewhat bases itself on foundation of sex, and an overwhelming amount of people watch them in their precious spare time.

Porn films are gross. They're the epitome of sleaze, really. I'm not the sort of person to typically complain about other people being objectified, but porn? It really does make the people involved look like mindless sex objects. And that's just enormously skanky.

I tend to be very detached when watching these things, it's not so much that I'm disgusted (although if I allow myself to react to them, revulsion is the reaction ultimately). So all these guys are sitting there getting off on it and I'm sitting there laughing at how fake the grunts sound, or how crappy the plot is.

As for sitcoms, although there's the odd quality one, I just sit there and think how pathetic they are. As I work in captioning for deaf/hearing impaired, I see a lot of this stuff, and several of my friends say I should become a screenwriter after this and make loads more money than I am :P

no one has ever come out as having any kind of relationship with him that way.

Hitchcock was happily married for over 50 years, and had a daughter who acted in one of his films. He was however a virgin when he married at 26, and him and his wife gave up sex together when he was 35. So he was actually sexually active for less than 10 years of his life, and he lived to be 80.

That certainly suggests he was asexual.

Strangely though, there was always a strong sexual or romantic element to his films. Who can forget the image of the train entering the tunnel at the end of North By Northwest, just as Cary Grant is about to consummate his romance with Eva Marie Saint.......

Well, yah, but just because you aren't that interested in it for yourself, doesn't mean you don't understand it... I write & sometimes include sex in the plot, not because I am interested, or to make it "sell" -- but because in real life, most people have sex, so in order for the story to be realistic and more true to life, then sometimes sex is a part of the plot. So I have asexual characters & sexual characters... after all, it's a diverse society, right?

Very true.

My all-time favourite comedy show is Seinfeld, which is very preoccupied with sex and relationships.

But it is also very funny and cleverly written.

So the heavy focus on sex has never really bothered me.
