Why do people watch porn?

As for the learning aspect... if you really wanted to learn you would seek other options than porn videos.

Often you don't have to seek it. Hang around with sexual people long enough and rest assured it'll appear at some point.

Why do people watch porn?

Because if your an M.P. you can claim it on your exspenses whilst your husband watches it

hahah. So the news about Jacqui Smith's expenses has reached stateside!

Ahaha... This is how I had my first experience with porn. Walking in on a bunch of friends calmly watching it on New Year's Eve many years ago.

I think porn's amusing (very rarely arousing, but my body has surprised me before). It's also sort of ... I don't want to say unrealistic, but I wouldn't say that the average porn is a good example of your average sexual encounter. :P

they watch it because its interesting and not something you see every day. you dont normally or ever see a naked person and naked people doing funny things...

also you want to learn about sex and how it is for others

also watch it because its funny to point and laugh at the people .

people watch it to get turned on or if they are attracted to the actor and think they have good body parts

to learn new sex moves

to get their partner turned on

i think thats it

the main reason is because its interesting and not something you see usually a naked person doing funny things. some porns are very unusual, like threesomes and you get to see what you normally wouldnt

its entertaining the same as watching an elephant ice skate or enter a pie eating contest. its a rare thing you dont see normally

It can be hilarious sometimes. :) -And there are a few porn films out there with a deliberate comedy element to them.

One such film is Shine Louise Houston's 'In search of the wild kingdom' -a docu-porn, done in the style of an investigation (by a naive news reporter) into what lesbians actually do in bed. That film wasn't so bad -kind of educational. -I thought the dildos in it were scarily large  until I was told by a queer friend that they weren't really that big at all -quite small in fact comparatively speaking.

Lesbian and FTM porn made by women seems to be quite realistic re: the kinds of sex the lesbians and the (sexual) FTMs that I've met want to have. -I'm panromantic -and as a result I've found myself in sexual situations that other people have initiated, (although left to my own devices I'd never have had the inclination or desire to initiate situations myself).

Porn is nothing like any of the sexual encounters I've had. 'Cos in porn the stars are motivated to do it. They don't get bored half way through and start thinking of what to have for dinner, and they never fall asleep. (I've done that a few times...) :aven:

Anyhow, I think porn can give you a vague idea of what sexual people are going to be interested in doing -in a sexual context.

For the record I don't have sex any more. If I had it I'd feel as though I was being dishonest with the other person for not telling them that I'm indifferent to it and don't really desire it. I prefer not to decieve the other person. And I prefer not having to fake enjoying it so they won't feel inadequate or upset.

-As for the act of being penetrated, that kind of scares me. It doesn't repulse me -but it scares me and the prospect makes me feel uncomfortable. It scares me because I'm not physically very accomodating. On the handful of times I've tried it I've found it rather painful -making me pre-occupied with the worry that it was somehow injuring me. (If I had sex basically I couldn't take anything more than a finger or a guy with a very small penis, -and I don't have much depth down there either...)

If, for example, lesbian porn includes accurate depictions of the size of dildos lesbians use -then that's all useful information for me. -So I could tell potential partners in advance 'no, I can't accomodate dildos' - so I would never have to endure a painful situation involving one. (although it's easier just to not have sex at all) -But if I was still allowing myself to get involved in sexual encounters with lesbians, having such knowledge -gained from watching a porn movie may prove useful.

-I've watched porn made by some feminist pornographers like Anna Span, Shine Louise Houston, Tristan Taormino and Carol Queen. Some of it's been straight. Some of it's been queer. And some of it's been lesbian. I've seen S+M docu-porn too by people like Morty Diamond. -But I've deliberately chosen to only watch the kind of stuff that has been noted to accurately depict the kinds of sex acts people have. -None of it's ever turned me on, but I have found it educational. -Most of the time when I've been watching it I've just thought, 'no I could never bring myself to do that', or 'ouch'. -As for people who're into SM, -what else can I say other than 'whatever floats your boat!'.

-I'll admit that I've been attracted to some of the people I've seen in porn on an aesthetic level (-particularly in the Shine Louise Houston stuff) -But I still wouldn't want to have sex with them. -And I don't masturbate over them or anything like that either.

-If you're trans -or genderqueer, as I am, it's very easy to get carried along by the norms of the trans or queer scene, -especially if you're attracted to some of the people in that scene on an aesthetic, romantic, or emotional levels. -And yes I can relate to people from that scene on many levels. I can still laugh at the dirty jokes in queer cabarets. -In small doses I can enjoy double entendres and other humour of a sexual nature. -And I can appreciate drag kings and other queer performers! -So I engage with that scene. -I can engage with it without having sex -and still have a lot of good friends on that scene. :) Needless, on that scene, like any other, having a sexuality is the norm. There are a lot of asexual transpeople out there -especially when you look at the statistics of surveys done by the doctors in the clinics that manage gender reassignment. Apparently 20% of people who transition from male to female are ace -a percentage for asexuality that's much higher than for non-trans people, -but on the whole their asexuality remains invisible to their friends on the trans scene -possibly because the queer scene tries to be so self-consciously 'sex positive' for the majority of the time. -Because my friends on that scene are self-consciously 'sex positive', they do occasionally show porn movies in some of the genderqueer clubs in London. That's how I ended up seeing feminist pornography...

-As for watching porn, I've found it useful. -I wouldn't say ban it unless it's exploitative, or unpleasantly degrading. Watching a select number of films has helped me to define what my boundaries are, -insofar as I know what I'm physically not capable of...

Also watching it has helped become more decisive re: my decision not to get involved when other people try to initiate sexual encounters with me... For me that's a very positive thing!

Most sexual people I know claim that porn is pretty uninteresting (and I do too - but it can be kind of cool, there was this one thing with pterodactyls that was pretty hilarious).

YOU'VE SEEN THAT?! I thought I was the only one! I have this friend who thinks it's the funniest thing. Any drunken party where someone hasn't heard of it he hops on the computer and shows it to them. "Pterodactyle pron" has become an inside joke. As an asexual, I thought it was hilarious the strange ends people will go to satisfy their sexual cravings. Though it's possible no one actually orgasms to that, they just laugh at it. I wonder how much the actors got paid for that. Could you imagine putting that on a resume?

Oh yeah, the pterodactyl porn is old-meme. Apparently, in the context of the whole film (which I haven't seen), they're supposed to be aliens, not pterodactyl....... yeah.

Anyway, it's a good point that a lot of that stuff was made deliberately for the lulz ("I love you cheetos" is a good example; google if you're brave), although I'm sure there's people who still find it erotic. There's also some market for stuff that's simultaneously lulzy and erotic. Still, a lot was made seriously, for people with very peculiar tastes (and there's plenty of peculiar tastes even inside AVEN), and it's often hard to tell the difference. When in doubt, don't worry about it too much. Whatever it is, someone somewhere probably faps to it, and there's probably someone else who finds it entertaining/amusing for nonsexual reasons. And the world still turns.

I'd doubt people'd watch it for educational purposes as most of the things i've seen/heard about wouldn't go very well in real life, and look as though they're more uncomfortable than pleasureable. :D

TMI? My ex once tried doing something to me and got confused when it didn't do anything to me and complained "but I saw it in a prono" - just because you saw it in porno doesn't make it good! :P

I guess when you're young and sex is this whole new thing a couple of friends may sneek a porno and watch it - but from what i've heard they just have a good old laugh at it.

Then again, i'm at uni now and i'm amazed at how many guys I know have porn (even know of a guy who gets a discount at the porn shop as he buys so much! ) I guess they watch it on those lonely nights when there's nothing better to do but "ahem"

Also some couples watch it together to raunch up their sex lives a bit.

A male sexual friend of mine was talking about how most people watch porn. Guys and girls.

True, or so I've heard. My girl may have no interest, but sexual women that I know seem to have a preference for gay porn.

So, just a question. What are some of the reasons people watch porn? Apart from the obvious of course, which is using porn to get off.

My friend mentioned that one of the reasons guys watch porn is that (in his words) "you won't be as lost or unsure what to do", referring to real life situations, I suppose. Okay, so people watch porn to...learn? But then, why would you want to learn erm "actions" and/or "techniques" that you see in porn? I thought porn was supposed to be really exaggerated and icky. Not exactly the romantic stuff you'd want to re-enact with your SO in real life.

Or is my impression of porn all wrong?

I'd hope most people aren't trying to use porn to learn. Other than a few lines of "educational videos", most porn is very unrealistic when it comes to depicting actual sex that both partners might enjoy. Usually they're very much a hyped up male fantasy of sex. Mostly, yes, they're there to arouse the viewer - as an aide to imagination in helping one picture women they will never be with, situations they would never find themselves in, and positions and methods that look arousing, but would be difficult if not painful to accomplish in the real world.

Sometimes partners watch videos together to become mutually aroused by a fantasy. That doesn't have to be actual "porn" - soft-core erotica works there, but so do more conventional shows or movies - for a good example, see "The Tudors".

And sometimes people watch porn for completely non-sexual reasons - because they're curious about an unusual subject, to make fun of the terrible plots and dialog, or just to see how bad it can be.

The most obvious driver of unrealism in porn is that porn works by being explicitly visual, and in many common sex positions there are bodies blocking a view of the explicit sexual action. So the need for clear camera angles means it's often a case of "Goodbye missionary, hello reverse cowgirl".

Not that there's anything wrong with that ;)

Now you've just blown my point all to hell! I guess not every position you see in porn is unrealistic and uncomfortable - some things are just as much fun as they look!

I'm asexual, and although I don't watch porn, I do read it when the mood strikes me. It's...well...fun? *blushes* *laughs* But I don't actually get off (have never gotten off in my life, unless getting off is something you don't actually notice happening or something). I just like it. XD Although, some of it is lulzy. I start thinking 'I don't think that would work' or 'no, don't try THAT! That'd hurt like hell!' But well-written porn can be good. Well, if the characters have an interesting relationship. Like, there has to be some kind of plot element, or it's just boring. But as I understand it, many people think plot is not important to porn at all.

...yeah, I have no idea why. It's just fun. XD

I watch porn because I'm just too curious and I watch everything and anything that's "talked about". I'm usually not turned on by porn though. That's the weird part.
