Sootmouth
A friend of mine pointed this out recently. The passage doesn't mention the A word directly but the concept is there. Alexander McCall Smith, 44 Scotland Street (2005) p174 "And Dr Fairbairn might not be married at all but might have a partner, and children by that partner. Or he might not be interested at all. That, of course, was the most difficult issue to determine. Irene knew that there were people who were just not interested at all, just as there were people who were not in the slightest interested in tennis. This did not mean that they were resentful of people who played tennis, or of people who like to watch tennis; it's just that tennis meant nothing to them."
Sally
McCall Smith's written other books with asexual-sounding characters, and his books generally show a lot of knowledge about different orientations. And he's just really good to read, anyway; his Botswana novels about Mma Ramotswe are all great.
