Incredibly Ace Moments

I've recently discovered a japanese rock music band called "Band-Maid", all the members are girls. "How is that last part important?" you may understandably ask. Well, every single one of their music videos has someone saying "They're hot", "X is hot" or something similar, to what my first thought is "dafuq does that matter? You're supposed to be here or the music...". They are beautiful, I won't say they are not, but isn't the music the important part?

 

I've seen similar comments in "Babymetal" videos (which is just downright creepy a lot of the times). Well, to be honest, in every single video where a cute/beautiful woman does anything! I've just put those two examples because they are ones I've seen a lot of, I don't really know if the same thing happens in boy-bands videos, or drawing videos or whatever subject, though it wouldn't be surprising.

 

It honestly disgusts me, and makes me mad. Can't people think of the music when watching a music video? Not even 3 to 5 minutes without thinking of sex? It feels like those people are not really fans of what they do, just of their looks. It's not like those women wouldn't have the ability that makes them good at what they do if they weren't attractive.

I've seen so many comments like this regardless of the content involved and it's really annoying to see.  Then there's the stereotype about girls only being interested in boybands because of their 'looks', not to mention there's a bit of a social stigma against guys liking female singers and/or actresses for any reason other than their appearance (which is typically associated with gay men).

 

It doesn't make sense to me how people can just ignore the quality of the person as a whole and focus solely on how they look.  🙄

My most ace moments came from dating while I was still figuring myself out.

 

I had a date with a girl I really liked. We drank all night and I walked her home. She invited me in for coffee and...I drank a cup then left. It never occurred to me she wanted more.

 

Another time I texted a girl to ask what she was doing later. She replied "watching porn and playing". I didn't want to disturb her so I didn't text back.

 

It took me years to realise how often girls tried to get me in bed and I totally blanked them.

Yesterday, I was sitting at dinner with my new friends. They were talking about who in our school (we're all new and in the youngest class) they think is hot. I expressed my disinterest, and just did stuff on my phone during the parts of the conversation where they were talking about it. When they went back to talking about interesting things I rejoined the conversation. A bit later they started again. I decided it would be a good time to get dessert. And dessert was.  . . CAKE! Oh my Lord the irony!

At first looking at this I was thinking that I usually got about as much innuendo as can be expected of someone not actively keeping a catalogue of what words mean sex now, but then I remembered all the times I've slipped up talking to this one group of people in my grade at school.

Only example I remember in detail:

I was talking to this guy and we noticed how large his hands and feet are, nearly twice the size of my wimpy hands and feet. I jokingly said something like "Why are your appendages so giant?"

...

I hope he's forgotten about that by now.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it was an accent thing or some geographic region that did say it that way?

I've been trying to decide these last few weeks whether or not I should join my colleges LGBTQplus society. I'm not really good at discussinig my orientation with people at all, and it's only in the last few months that I've really started learning things about asexuallity, being aromantic, and even other things like about transgender and non binary people and  so much more - I realised that everything I learned about LBGTQ people I have learned on my own, using only whatever resources I had myself, and lately I thought it would be good if I could change that.

my friend that I'm out to said she would join the society with me - I am very much an introvert and not good at meeting new people or being social at all, so I would never do this on my own - but she wants to tell her family I'm asexual to explain why she's joining.

Even though I'm a postrgraduate student and have been going to the same college - University College Dublin - for four years, this is the year I am both most excited and most nervous about, as i will be trying lots of new things.

I am hoping to meet other asexual people in the LGBTQ society - I have never met any in person that I know of, only online - so I think it could be good.

 

I have so many aces moments in college, and so often when everyone is talking and making jokes I feel like I don't understand what is going on or maybe I am missing something.

There's multiple nude mods for Skyrim (and most games available on PC) and more.  Skyrim is just so easy to mod, so of course people are going to do pretty much anything with it.

There's multiple nude mods for Skyrim (and most games available on PC) and more.  Skyrim is just so easy to mod, so of course people are going to do pretty much anything with it.

Oh bloody hell I hope they're behind an age wall or something; my little cousin plays fortnite obsessively. I'm not a prude around kids but he's definitely not mentally mature enough to deal with potentially sexual things.

The nice thing about being in a group like that is that (in theory) no one should assume your gender or orientation, and it should probably make you comfortable knowing that you're surrounded by others who are also unusual in those categories (gender expression/orientation).

As long as your LGBT+ group is ace inclusive, you should be good.

I'm pretty open about myself here on AVEN, but I don't usually get into that kind of talk IRL unless it's needed (if some person was aggressively hitting on me, etc.) or I know I'm in 'safe' company (generally LGBT+ folks).
I'm not 'out' at work, for example. But the people there don't bother me about that kind of thing, so it's not needed.

I'm sorry this has been really bugging me with my own parenting lately! There's this awesome show called To The Ends of The Earth with Benedict Cumberbatch in that I've been meaning to watch again with mum. However I won't let my kids watch it with us because he has sex with a woman in it at one point, and at another point he's naked and you see is arse. However, I'm totally okay with them watching Sherlock with me because there's no sex and you don't see any arse.. even though you see dead bodies and two quite graphic suicides, as well as violence during fighting etc. ..Why does my mind say it's wrong for them to see his arse, but okay for them to see him commit suicide or blow a man's head off, like, wtf? Your comment reminded me of this because yes it's funny how many parents are okay with their kids playing violent games or watching violent movies, but God forbid said child see a naked person! Haha.. it's such a strange dichotomy.

 

Anyway sorry, this was off topic!! I shall now return to my vacuuming cleaning!! 🍰

I started watching a movie about a lesbian couple. Because guess what, I was trying to figure out my sexuality again. I was trying to figure out if I was sexually or romantically attracted to women. Everything was going fine in the beginning. They were all cute and romantic. Even though it didn't appeal to me that much either, it was fine. In this kind of context, which was sweet and all, a sex scene came out of the blue. I put my laptop aside as soon as I realized what was going on, and I was nearly crying because of how cringy the whole thing was. The scene was gross and unrelatable. Right at that moment, I was literally like: "I'm so freaking asexual."

It is a stupid dichotomy but I suppose (we hope!) our kids (I class my cousins as mine, cos they fight over who loves me more ) are never going to shoot people in RL, so it's an obvious fantasy, whereas sex is something that will probably happen at some point, but we hope not too soon.

 

That was armchair BS psychology, but hey I tried.

Exactly!! Like we're worried about the sex because they will probably do it one day.. but why does that mean we're afraid for them to see it? And why does that mean they can't see naked bodies?? Like, it makes no sense in my mind but I still can't help but reinforce it. I should be reticent to let them see murder and suicide, and fine with them seeing arse. But my brain just won't let me be that sensible Y_Y

Once, back in Highschool (I was 15 years old and since I was raised as a devote catholic Seriously considered being a nun or something so I wouldn't get judged If I didn't wanna marry and have kids) I used to hang with a bunch of boys who were like my closest friends (that made people think that I was either the girlfriend of one of them or I was a "Tomboy" but that isn't the point of this). We were getting out of the chem classroom and I saw that this boy named Sebastián had a purple-like mark in his neck so I asked who was the idiot that punched him in the throat, he started his reply with something that seemed to be a very detailed story of what he did with his girlfriend the day before and when I caught where the conversation was going, asked him to stop bragging about personal stuff and to stop telling me about his sexual experiences. I think he thought I was "childish" because of that and got a little mad at me so he said something like "You're going to have a boyfriend sometime and this is going to happen, it's like a rule" and well, I lost my temper (silly, I know) and I said that it wasn't strictly necessary for everyone to get involved in a relationship at that age or ever so he asked if I was going to be a nun to what I (Clearly pissed off) replied: "And what if I fucking want to", He immediately stopped arguing and said he was sorry. #And that's like the decisive moment of my life that made me realize I was Ace, lmao#

Also I remember getting completely blushed when ANYONE mentioned the word "Sex" in like any context
