I don't even KNOW HOW to have sex!

You know what's scary, BOA? A lot of schools already do stuff like that. I don't know if any of you read Reader's Digest as religiously as I do, but they had an article last year about schools that have classes called "Porn Studies" where students basically look at porn and get credit for it by saying it's relevant to the modern world.

And those classes are about all a community college would offer in the "how to" of sex.

Actually, I took a "Human Sexuality" course at my community college, and we had to watch porn (I was not aware of this before I signed up). Both men and women masturbating, and then a few different videos of hetero sex. It was during the summer though so the teacher said that if it had been a regular semester, we'd have watched more. Ugh... :x I still remember it, the horror! What the hell?! No porn in class!!!

Yes, the lack of knowledge about basic anatomy (especially on the part of the women here) is disturbing. People...*nonplussed*

*waves her hand in Julie's and boa's direction* Listen to them.

EDIT: I've thought about it and realised some of the women on this site are asking/saying the same sorts of things the boys were asking/saying in my 8th grade biology class. Our teacher put a box at the front of the room and you could put in any questions you had about sex and she'd read them out and answer them. Some men know more about the way your body works than you do. If only for the sake of female empowerment try to get a rudimentary education in the way your body works. It's not disgusting--it's your life, for the love of Pete!

The first day she drew this on the board:

(( ))

Then in a vertical line in the middle parenthesis she drew a very small circle followed by two slightly larger circles. She pointed them out. Urethra, vagina and anus.

No, a penis CANNOT fit in the urethra. That sounds like something a 12 year old boy would come up with.

I don't know if it's because our society tells girls to be ashamed of their bodies or what, but you owe it to yourself to know a bit about how everything works. You don't have to use it.

Sorry to play devils advocate here (okay I admit it, Im not sorry) but this was a class about sexuality right? A lot of people watch porn right? Porn is a big part of a lot of people's sexuality correct? So too is masturbation and sex in general. So when you took this human sexuality course you were expecting what exactly? Anatomy charts and studies of courtship rituals? Does masturbation have nothing to do with sexuality? If you are studying the subject you ought to know what it looks like when people do it. You can't study sex in the modern world without studying porn. There is no way to form an objective opinion about something you are too squeemish to watch. Allow me to emphasize my point ITS JUST NAKED PEOPLE!!!!!!! Sex should not gross you out any more than all the other things humans do. Then again im also of the opinion that girls do in fact poop and you should not be horrified by the things that are common to daily life and being human. This doesn't mean you should LIKE sex, you just shouldn't be horrified by it. Its human, come to grips.

I second that about knowing how it all works--everybody of reasonable age should know. I had sex-ed my freshman year of high school and am eternally thankful for it, even though it's highly unlikely I'll ever put it into practice, so to speak. I found it all interesting too, even though (my being asexual and all) there was no erotica underlying it like I'm sure there was with at least some of the other students. I'll admit there were a few limited things that can be mildly repulsive but that's mostly due to physical appearance than function. But bodily functions I don't really find repulsive at all in and of themselves, it's only certain behaviors I'm likely to be disgusted by (oral sex being an example).

A college-level sexuality course does sound interesting, even though for me it would just be a "clinical" interest. Along the same lines, what little pornography I've seen I found interesting in this same "clinical" sense as well.

Joski, I think it's safe to say that most of us are gymnophobes.

I've looked at porn twice in my life (I think I've told this story before).

The first time was because I wanted to know what a vagina looked like. I threw up. the second time was because I wanted to see if I'd throw up again. I did.

That's enough for me.

I think what grosses us out about it, Tressa, is that it's REALLY up close. Like, the entire screen will be taken up by genitals. At that stage it's just like mechanics. Like watching machinery at work. Except human and kinda squicky.

Did you really throw up? I mean seriously? Because if you did that is sooooo hilarious. You gotta admit thats funny, Vagina=Vomiting. Like, what if you accidently pick up a porn mag and..........bleach, you toss your cookies all over the sidewalk. Sorry to mock your predicament but thats pretty damn funny in my book. :D

Really? Wow. Well, that sounds good to avoid. It would probably trigger horrible flashbacks to tech class.

Yes, Tressa, it is icky. I was like you before I saw any. I couldn't figure out why it would be so bad. I think I would be okay with it if it was more in long-shot rather than practically at a molecular level.

Gah! Sounds like a bad science movie!

"And here, we see the reproductive habits of the human..." *Extreme close-up, but with nature-y music instead of a 70's groove*

Some completely uneducated ppl from rural areas-don't ask me which country-reported that repeated trials involving the wrong hole resulted in bladder problems. The poor woman ended up not being able to control the urinary tract.

Improbable as they sound, stories like this are true. Most (but not all) cases occur in women with an anatomical problem with the vagina, making vaginal sex impossible. There is a case report from JAMA in 1965, and others in various journals since, with the most recent being a report of 2 cases from a Turkish hospital (published in 2001) and an article in the European Journal of Ostetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Biology in 2002.
