Jean Grey
Anyone interested in learning German, feel free to contact me! I'm a genuine German girl, and whilst that is rarely something to be proud of, it might come in handy for a change. I just love to correct people's mistakes. Makes me feel less inadequate myself!

Jean Grey
I would be more than happy ( :D ) to help you. You're right, it would be a shame to lose the language competence that one had to work so hard for at school. Every once a month I decide that it's time to translate something from the Ancient Greek, but I never do (shame on me!). And dead languages are even easier to forget than still-alive-and-breathing ones. Please tell me how you want us to go about this brushing up your German. I'm ready to do (almost) anything! Damien Day
I also did Ancient Greek and Latin at school. Fascinating subjects! I found that while I forgot the grammar, I remembered most of the words - so much so that my knowledge of English French/German/Spanish and Italian is much greater than it would otherwise have been since these languages derived so many words from either of these 2 ancient languages, especially English. That's very true. But I think it's even more than that. It's the possibility of thinking "Now I will/could sit down and translate Plato/ Homer." There's no feeling quite like it. It makes you feel like, I don't know, you conquered not only world literature but also the past: it's at your command. You can go back to beginning of our civilization, and, arrived, you even know your way around. *sigh* I will translate something again. And very soon!

I learn german out of my own free will. In Singapore, only the top 10% of the students are offered the opportunity to study german, french or japanese. (Although there are some which study at the goethe institut, unlike the rest of us). I chose to do German because i thought it was an added advantage for a history student. And it was. I have grown to appreciate the culture and I can't wait to visit Germany when I have the money.
Shoes
Hey, I'm trying to teach myself german. For now, I'm mostly using audiobooks because a) This is first to talk to people in real life and B) I haven't had much luck finding good free resources to learn written german. So, if someone would be willing to chat and coach me (over skype, msn voice, whatever) or knows of a good site from which to learn written german, please message me! I would like to refrain from trying the text chat buddy system until I have a rudimentary grasp of german grammar and syntax. Also, if you know of german music with very easy to make out lyrics, it would be appreciated as well.

Farfalla
Hi I am moving to Germany in March. Just had my first German class and am a bit dizzy with all the gender pronouns. I am now going to proudly show off all 3 sentences that I can remember and I will probably mess up the gender pronouns. Ok did I get those right?

Niemand
I know this is a semi-old thread but I'll post anyway.
