Wallach IX
---- Hi everyone, As we've already got a few AVENers who are interested in learning German and/or want to improve their language skills, i thought it would be good to have an official thread for this purpose. EDIT: <snipped out obsolete passages>
djc
(I'm only learning German, but I'll try to make a post in German....) ***************************** English I'm a bit interested about help with German. It would give me something to do. :) But I don't know how we would help each other. I have "AOL Instant Messenger." Perhaps we could use that...? -djc
Wallach IX
FATE
I am extremely interested in learning German, I have only a basic vocabulary now, but I think its an awesome language.
Wallach IX
hi Fate, if you want to occasionally chat in german, check my profile for nicks. icq is best. *g* i must admit, i was a bit surprised to find ol' Skrzetuski in your avatar. i wonder what Michal Z. is doing these days...
Kamikola
You were surprised????? How the hell do you even know Skrzetuski? Just when you think that nothing can surprise you anymore...
Wallach IX
How the hell do you even know Skrzetuski? i've read the books and seen the film, obviously. though i must say, i was cheering for Bohun in the film. :D
Kamikola
Yeah, Bohun is my favorite character too. Sorry for highjacking the thread
Wallach IX
no problem, Kami! :D this thread is probably one of AVEN's most quiet corners. perhaps it should be renamed "The Chillout Lounge" ;) i've just read about the film "Stara Basn: Kiedy Slonce bylo Bogiem", directed by Jerzy Hoffman. apparently, the film is a gritty retelling of the Popiel legend. if anyone else has seen it, let me know what's it's like. FATE
Oh my god you guys have seen "with fire and sword" aka "Ogniem i mieczem." I love that movie and i love Michal Zebrwoski, he is beautiful. I'm trying to get a Michal Zebrowski poster or something but its a bit hard in Australia :( I did watch the movie " The Pianist" just because he's in it but I was quite dissapointed with the 10 seconds he was on screen. I did like Bohun as well though.
Wallach IX
sorry, my mistake. Bogdan Stupka is in both films (Ogniem & Mieczem - Chmielnicki, Stara Basn - Popiel). so no Bohun for us... at least now i can be happy with the Popiel outcome...
Kamikola
I love both "Ogniem i mieczem" and "Stara Basn" and both are great. There was one more of those movies with Michal Zebrowski, "Wiedzmin" (they just keep on giving him the leading roles in historic movies :D and they're right :D he fits right in :D ) I loved that one too. It's weird. I don't consider myself a big fan of his but I love all the movies he's in... could it be just a coincidence? Or am I a fan? *weird alert*
Wallach IX
hi Kami, i heard of "Wiedzmin", but didn't get an opportunity to see it in theatres. critics trashed it totally, so i thought DVD would be a better choice anyway. to date, i haven't seen any film with Michal Z. that i didn't like either. :) his role in "Pan Tadeusz" was pretty good too, though obviously totally different from "Ogniem & Mieczem" in scope and style. Michal was supposed to be in Boguslaw Linda's "Krzyzacy" in the role of Rotgier, but it looks like that film project has been shelved...too bad, i think Michal would look pretty sharp as a teutonic knight. ;)
FATE
I am trying to get my hands on a Michal Z film, I only know it as its translated title of "The Hexer." I know he's a singer as well but haven't actually heard any of his songs.
FATE
Hmmm this forum seems to have swayed off topic. Sorry for my involvement.
Wallach IX
no prob, Fate. "The Hexer" is called "Wiedzmin" in polish. if you have a polish video store in your town, they should carry it. i'm sure the larger cities in Australia do. you can find polish films at reasonable prices on the following sites: www.merlin.pl, www.vivid.pl and www.dvdland.pl. "Wiedzmin" sells for about 30 zloty on vivid & dvdland. you can keep abreast of Michal's career & filmography here: www.imdb.com/name/nm0954076/
Kamikola
I don't know why critics didn't like that movie. I think it was great. It's got some supernatural stuff, action, original music, and the whole plot is wrapped around fate. Good stuff!!! I don't care what the critics say. I like it!!! (....... we should have a emoticon with a tonge out...... could use one right now)

hilbertastronaut

Heimdall
I'd like to learn german (deutsh? warum nicht ?). But I don't know that much, I've learned dutch which is quite close to german, but I've forgotten most of it. Well, at least I can still follow a bit of what you say; after all I've had to learn dutch and english, so this time it could become easier. What do I have to do ?
Damien Day
