I'm only out to AVEN and one or two other sites I'm a member of. It's been pretty much a non-issue on those sites.

I'm only out on certain forums, and even then usually only if somebody else brings the topic up first. The topic's never come up offline, so I'm guessing I just pass as "straight but indifferent" or something.

I'm out to everyone, and I've encountered no animosity and little disbelief.

...and some people still ask me why I consider myself a lucky person.

Out to only a few select people, but they were all pretty accepting.

I'm only "out" here. And you're all pretty accepting. :D

Otherwise I mostly pass as straight, occasionally am assumed to be gay. Some people are bemused or confused by my lack of dating; others don't seem to notice although I work with several people who either don't date or are very discreet about it.

I've only actually said "I'm asexual" to a select number of friends - everyone else pretty much knows I'm not a very sexual person, so it's just putting a name to a trait, really.

I've only come out to my queer friends, who are all accepting. These friends, however, seem to out me to my other friends. My other friends never say anything about it though so I'm not sure if they think it's a joke, just don't care, or aren't paying attention. I'm more nervous to tell them directly because a lot of them are very sexual and very pro-sex and I feel like they wouldn't believe it.

I'm out to my immediate family which are my parents and my younger sister.

While my mum ist totally supportive and understanding my dad never talks about it and my sister sometimes think it is okay to makes stupid jokes about my sexual orientration. I don't think the problem is that those two don't accept it - they either don't understand it and/or don't care enough.

Anyways, if it doesn't get better I have to confront them. They both have a very hard time talking about personal and emotional things and I'm not angry at them, they're difficult people - just like me.

I'm happy to have my mom - she clearly stated she has no problem with either my asexuality or the fact that I feel romantically attracted to people of both genders.

I'm not out to anybody else. Some people know I'm bi but they don't know I'm a bi-romantic asexual and not bisexual.

Everyone was accepting, as in no one condemned me, but many, including family, think there's something off about me, or that I haven't found the right person - some have even suggested that I'm a lesbian who doesn't know it yet. How, at 25, could I not know it yet, if I've never had feelings for another woman?

I have said though, that if I were to dyke it, it would have to be with a butch black chick. Not into black guys, but if I was gay I'd probably like the girls.

I'm pretty sure that 'have you come out' doesn't make sense, grammatically.

But anyway on to important stuff; I have told three people, all good friends, all okay about it. A-okay, in fact.

I came out to my friends last night as a questioning asexual. Perhaps things would have been different if I'd come out as a confirmed asexual...

One girl had no idea what it was.

I got about four, "You just haven't met to right person yet."

And two people claimed I was just supressing myself...

Ho-hum

  • 1 year later...

Some of my friends are believing. Some are disbelieving. My family are fine with it, but then they've also had to deal with me having a gender transition. My mum always guessed it anyway, along with the fact I was trans. She's always been concerned that blokes would want to fuck me after I had my op, and that I wouldn't be interested, and that I wouldn't be able to fight them off. She always worries about me like that. Bless her. For a while post-op I wondered if I was gonna turn out to be a lesbian. My mum always seemed a bit skeptical that I was ever gonna become a lesbian because I'd never really showed any real interest in anything remotely sexual in during adolescence, and during my two puberties. -One of her main concerns for me seems to revolve around the fact that she doesn't want me to be lonely.

I think that's part of the reason why she wants me to move back up to Durham -so that I don't spend so much time alone. I've always felt like a bit of a mix up genderwise and for a while spent a lot of time psychologically investing in the idea I might be queer. My mum's just watched me fail and fail in relationships because of the lack of interest in sex thing. The longest relationship I've ever dad was pretty much asexual. When I was involved in that relationship my Mum seemed anxious that I'd stay with my partner -becuase it seemed to be working. When it failed and I was dumped she was very concerned for me.

I mentioned last week how I was spending time on AVEN and that I went to a meetup last week. She thinks it's a good thing that I'm meeting people online with whom I don't have to put up any form of pretence.

Friends are a different thing entirely. Some of them are great and just accept it. Others are disbelieving -or just discount it. As a result of being gender variant I have quite a lot of friends on the queer scene and some of them are disbelieving. Friends I've known for a long time and who now me well know that I don't really have any sexual inclination.

I'm finding some social networking sites difficult ie facebook. I don't want random people from the queer community who just can't grasp that my attraction to people is primarily aesthetic, emotional, intellectual, affectionate and loving, -but not sexual dismissing my asexuality on my 'wall' and so I've been gradually deleting my facebook profile so that I can set up a new one from scratch -one that's invisible in searches so that only family, close friends, and fellow avenites can be my friends on there.

'I'm only out to close family & friends and they were mostly disbelieving'

I told my best friends, 3 of them were disbelieving and 2 were accepting.

I'm out to most people I come into contact with..not as in I wear a t shirt saying I am an Asexual but when a momment that appears appropriate .The first person I told at work said within an instance..does that mean your a poof? I laughed then informed him he didn't need to worry about picking up soap in the showers and sat him down and told him how it was, he's been cool with it ever since so has everyone else
