Your data suggest a slight automatic preference for Gay People compared to Straight People.

I got little to no preference on the other tests except the 'Native IAT', which said I have a moderate automatic preference for Native Am and American than White Am and American. Not sure if this actually 'proves' your preferences for certain groups, it seems to test your reflexes more than anything else. The results do seem similar to the way society in general views certain groups though, young associated with good, old with bad etc...

I noticed the gay symbols in the test only show women together - maybe the percentage for preferring straight people would have been (even) higher if they'd included symbols showing two men together as well? Since people are (generally) more uncomfortable with gay men than lesbians and think they're (more) 'disgusting'. Just a thought...

Mine only showed men.

Oh man, it's back to haunt me... I'm gonna give this a shot, but I'm just warning you, I suck at these tests. We were supposed to do them for my Philosophy class, and every single one I tried, it came up with too many errors to give me results...

<_<

EDIT: Yep, it didn't work.

Ah, I've taken this kind of test before - the race one, and I had to do one in person for a local psych experiment. I don't think they really measure any implicit bias. It's more likely to test your hand-eye coordination, ability to mentally distinguish different concepts, and reflexes. I found it really easy and didn't get any answers wrong, so of course it said I showed no preference either way. In reality, I think I probably am likely to hold some slight bias, but since I aced the tests it didn't come through. I'm quite skeptical about these tests because of this.

That is totally not true in the slightest. I prefer gay men to anything. I don't like taking these test..they make my hands shake because I'm nervous I woun't go fast enough.

Yeah, i got 'moderate automatic preference for gay people'. I agree with others who state that the test is based more on reflexes than any subconscious connections. Although, the result was accurate, and it is Harvard, so maybe it is scientific?

The first time i saw the 'straight' couple in wedding outfits, i totally thought it was two women, one in a tux, the other in a dress. So i was slightly distracted by that each time i saw that picture. I think the test may have been a little more accurate if they had switched the words, then had you do a pre-test to re-memorize which category was on which side.

Well its a reflex test anyway. But it told the truth. I have a moderate automatic preference to gay people.

I got a result that flatters me, but I'm not sure it means much. I had trouble distinguishing between opposite gender and same gender pairs of figures. (Probably there's a lot to psychologize right there.)

No preference.

I'm not sure it's accurate, but when I had to answer the first section I was never more than one point away from neutral when it asked me what my preferences were, so maybe it is right?

Overall: asexual and with no sexuality expectations or preference?

'Works for me.

It said I had a slight preference to straight people. Well I don't think that's true because most of the time it's straight people that tell me the "someday you'll change your mind about love" and whatnot. Though my internet friend who's lesbian keeps telling me that I'm only 17 and maybe I'll change. I expect that more from a straight person though. Back to topic, I think my result isn't accurate.

Well, this thing irked me. Being from a research based study, I expected a little bit more... correctness.

The fact that I had to choose between 'Asexual' and 'Bisexual' was exceptionally irritating. Also, it appears that Caucasian isn't in their vocabulary either. Clearly, this test appears to be directed at American's due to the nature of design. Also, I think they could have used better wedding pictures. It came down to black/black = gay and black/white = straight. And there were no lesbian referances, which I found puzzling. Also, I was most disappointed that they had 'correct' and 'incorrect' answers for everything. Hello, what if someone's a Masichist? (SP?) At the very least, I think it ought to have been hidden answers without the forced 'no, you got the answer wrong according to us, so fix it before you can continue.' Just another reason why I hate small and closeminded things like this. They train you to give the 'correct' answer, not an honest one. All in all, this a horribly flawed test, due to the number of oversights, and the amount of bias.

Funny thing. I always end up manipulating tests like this to achieve the result that I expect of myself. And it always works. I figured out what was up with the sorting about half way though and ended up inadvertantly manipulating the result again. It's like I KNOW how to subvert this test so that I'll get the proper result, so how the hell do I avoid doing it? Apparently, I'm every psychologist's worst nightmare, because I can't be diagnosed with anything properly. Even those tests with built in 'tamper proofing' made to indicate when someone is faking it don't catch me. SOOO this thing is just something I can chalk up to being just another fun use of 15 minutes.

All rambling aside though, I ended up with a decently accurate result in that I slightly prefer gay people to straight people. The funny thing is, my gaydar is broken, so it's not like I could tell anyways. Ironic in a way. rofl

Strong automatic preference to straight people. Truth is...I guess consciously...I have no preference, or more rather I'm indifferent. I always say that what's going on between someone's legs has nothing to do with their brains...and to alter that for this case, what's going on on someone's head offends or affects me in no way whatsoever. But, maybe because I don't get exposed to too many gay people in my area? Really plays a role on the subconscious?

That's quite possible. I read Malcolm Gladwell's Blink and he took the IAT Race preference test and came out with a preference for white people even though he has a black mother who raised him. He reckons its because we are much more exposed to images of white people in the media and, regardless of what colour skin we have, we tend to know more white people because they are more numerous in western populations so we see far more positive portrayals of white people than we do of black people. The same would be true of straight people. On the plus side, he argues that if you're aware of this subconscious bias and you make the effort to see people in a more positive light, then the bias lessens over time.

I think the important thing is, that when you find yourself making a quick, subconcious judgement of someone, that you step back for a second and reassess why you are doing that. This holds for people of different sexualities, ethnicities, people with disabilities and mental health issues etc. I find situations are much less tense when you take a moment to ask yourself why someone is behaving the way they are and you can accept differences.

I took this test a year ago for a class, and still have the same result

I strongly prefer gay people... no surprise there.

I wonder when they added "Asexual" to the list , It wasn't there when I took the test last time.

Same here.

I came up with little to no preference.

I got slightly automatic preference to straight people. That stupid thing was really hard because my ability to associate the words, and the words with the pictures, is terribly pathetic. It was hard either way.

'Strong automatic preference for straight people'. I thought this was a great test. I found I could rocket through it when everything 'good' was associated with 'straight', even though I felt kind of bad and bigoted while doing it.

Horny straight men scare the hell out of me.

As for friends they're a mixed bunch, some straight. some gay, some lesbian, some trans, some queer.

As long as people are nice to me and don;t pressure me I like them regardless of their orientation.
