I'm a huge Halloween fan and I love all kinds of movies that are generally associated with the season. I'd like to hear from you guys what your favorite fall/Halloween movie is! I'm always on the look out for new movies, so the stranger the better!

Good one!

I'm not into horror movies, but like some thrillers. But mostly, I like lighter movies. Some of my favorites for this time of year include these:

Young Frankenstein (classic)

The Trouble with Harry (by Alfred Hitchcock, sometimes described as a comedy thriller; it's really not scary, but there is a dead body involved - released on Oct. 3rd 1955)

Bell, Book and Candle (about witches in modern day (at the time, which was late 50s) New York City)

Hocus Pocus (more campy and silly, but still good)

Probably others, but those are the ones that come readily to mind.

I used to be into a lot of bloody and gory horror movies, but recently I've been into more of the Universal, 1930s era monster films, which are much tamer visually than modern horror but seem to have a lot more to say. So lighter fare like this are on my list for this year, stuff my younger self would have dismissed because it wasn't pushing boundaries of one sort or another.

I think a lot of movies like those you listed are pretty scary if you really think a about it. Its just not scary in a flashy, blood way. Binx in Hocus Pocus was turned into an immortal black cat. That's like body horror and existential dread wrapped up in one little package.

I watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show for the first time, not too long ago ... too late in life, but this is probably going to be my new tradition: watching it around Halloween. 🎃

@daveb I'll have to check out the ones you mentioned, they really sound like 'my cup of tea'.

Have you seen Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, by any chance?

I hadn't heard of that one, but that made me want to look it up. Thank you for alerting me to its existence! I love all things W&G/Shaun the Sheep related. :D

I've thought about watching Rocky Horror, but then I looked up why it's rated R and got squeamish. Apparently I'm more sex-repulsed than I initially thought. 😅 Maybe one of these days I'll get brave and watch it anyway, because I know it's a classic (and I do like the Time Warp song)!

Yeah, of the ones I mentioned, I'd say Hocus Pocus is the scariest one, with some real danger to the kids, and some scary stuff from the witches and other things going on.

The 2 from the 50s are really more fun than scary. Not exactly laugh out loud funny. More like quirky and odd. Maybe a little spooky, but not much.

I thought of a few others

the Topper series - 3 movies about ghosts

I Married a Witch

these are all light comedies from the late 1930s/early 1940s

Ringu is probably my favorite, with Martyrs and Obsession.

Damn, going hard with Martyrs, it was a great film,. The end totally redeemed the whole film.

You're welcome! And I really like them too, :D

The new Shaun flick is the only or one of very few movies currently playing in local movie theatres that I'd consider watching.

I haven’t watched it yet, but I like stop motion! I’m looking forward to Wildwood coming out later this month.
