Obviously it's a kids's show, but that's about as much as my mind can take 😅 I got put off Enterprise pretty quickly when the first episode had a long scene of two people in their underwear rubbing some kind of lotion on each other and then found out it happens fairly regularly, so I just gave up then 😅

There are issues with that in almost all series (like how short the dresses were in TOS, how they had Deanna Troi dress in TNG, the whole 7 of 9 aesthetic in Voyager) but there isn't the same decontamination chamber rubbing in other series.
Duke Not-24 Memphis
I've seen the original Star Wars trilogy and Rogue One. I've never seen Star Trek, unless you count that Futurama episode.
Anonymous9951
Star Trek, without question, even though I'm only really into DS9, Voyager, Enterprise and I guess TNG when I can stomach it. Quote And the Star Trek universe acknowledges its flaws, like there will always be some people/species that just don't get along, and Starfleet itself is full of hypocrisies & often violates its own principals, etc. That's an interesting point, I was going to mention how the Federation isn't perfect in ways that might not be covered by this but this is a positive spin on some of it. I don't want to get into it but Star Trek because of the hope for a softer future and a more compassionate society. It's always a little surprising to me when people seem to be interested in Star Trek for reasons that have nothing to do with that (from memory, I also remember thinking that Picard ruined some of that softness/utopianism). There's also the weird science though. You don't really see time travel, parallel universes, different kinds of beings (not just odd-looking people but 'energy beings' and beings with odd abilities and species with very different cultures that an episode will explore; although I have always thought it strange that an entire species will typically only have one culture, etc.), spatial and temporal anomalies, interesting transporter accidents etc. etc. It's funny because I vaguely remember thinking (or am I remembering someone else saying this) that Star Trek was just people on a ship going through their mundane lives whereas S.W was adventure and action but there's so much creativity and imagination in Star Trek, it's fun. S.T is really soft science fiction (faster than light travel, humanoid aliens on so many planets in the galaxy, interstellar travel, backward time travel, 'incorporeal' alien life forms, etc.). Even despite that, I almost want to say that there's something about it that's more 'realistic' or applicable to me, besides maybe taking place in our galaxy and our future (maybe the pretense of a scientific explanation for these things that are highly improbable; I mentioned in another post that backward time travel is the only sci-fi theme that I think is truly implausible but realistically we're probably not ever leaving the solar system). I tend to prefer high fantasy too, if not high fantasy stories then the concept of it. To put some respect on S.W, I guess there's something almost spiritual about the Force and some of the Jedi ideas, but I don't really go for a lot of it. Anakin's transformation to Darth Vader has always moved me. I doubt I'll ever re-watch the sequel trilogy, or even the prequel one although I might re-watch the latter one day. The Mandalorian is/was ok, the Boba Fett show too. I started watching Andor but I was distracted and I don't know the context (I never watched Rogue One) and I found something else I wanted to watch, I think, so I left it alone. I really liked the Obi-Wan Kenobi mini series. Definitely Star Trek though. I used to tear up when I heard the Enterprise theme song. I want more utopian science fiction.

Hot take, I think Star Trek is less utopic than people make it out to be. We do see a lot of pompous first-rate officers having a lot of fun doing science and exploration, but we also see them do things like evict natives from their own planets to sate selfish neighbouring nations too impatient to continue talking. We also get far darker stories when we're not following first-rate ships around. It's like, people in this day have big mansions and eight-digit salaries and personal yachts and private jets. People, as in a select few. They never have to worry about anything happening to their home or catching a bus. If an alien's only exposure to Earth was this, they'd probably get the impression we live in a utopia, but obviously that's not the way all of us live. And I think that's where Star Trek gets the utopia reputation from. Except for DS9, obviously. That hardly looks utopic to me. Gargantuan starships hopping around and dictators blowing up planets is somehow more engaging to me than a bunch of cloaked people waving sticks around

KVA1983
Star Wars mainly because I haven't really watched the Star Trek series other than the movies which I love. Especially Data's (Lifeform Song) ❤️

bare_trees
If I have to choose, it's Star Trek--I'm a huge Trekkie. DS9 episodes like "Duet" and "In the Pale Moonlight"? Just can't be beat. Love TNG, Discovery, Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, and aspects of Voyager. Oh, and TOS isn't great overall but Spock was probably my first crush. Leonard Nimoy was everything. But also...why do I have to choose? I don't care for most of the new Star Wars films, but I loved the original trilogy as a child and now. Also, there's Doctor Who and B5 and BSG (the reboot).

One thing I don't get is why it's always Star Trek vs Star Wars, and not Star Trek vs Doctor Who. Doctor Who I'd say fills Star Trek's spot in Britain's TV industry and has fairly similar themes. Star Wars is nothing like them, it's apples and oranges.

Autumn ace
I’ve seen more Star Trek than Star Wars, but I’m not very familiar with either. My favorite sci-fi show has always been Doctor Who

That's why there are some neutral options in the poll as well 😉

When this question is discussed in general people often seem to expect others to have a preference or even a clear favorite (similar to other questions, such as "do you like dogs or cats?"). AlsoKnownAs
I picked Star Trek, though I don't dislike Star Wars -- I just don't like it as much as Trek.
