The books... not so much. 😅 My best friend is is huge fan and she has been entirely supportive and welcoming of my asexuality. I see a lot of difference between Rowling and the HP online fandom. The fandom is usually liberal and progressive, making queer fanart and ships (the Marauders fandom, for example). Maybe we just know different kinds of people, but I have seen HP fans embarrassed and really disappointed by Rowling. Like, that's not what they signed up for. 12 hours ago, SkyWorld said: I was mostly referring to IRL. I’m not super invested in online fandoms as much as I used to. And, online, one is more easily able to do some internet sleuthing to vibe check a person. Compared to IRL, there’s not as much to go off of. Going off of what these two have said, all of my HP friends (all IRL) are super liberal like me and we treat Rowling as if she were a combination of Umbridge and Voldemort. I mean, let's face it; she kinda is. Pretty much all of my HP friends are in the "alphabet soup" under one or more labels. We still cosplay and compare wands. As I've mentioned before, it's important to separate the art from the artist. Harry Potter has become something so much more than what Rowling originally intended and just because she's a closed-minded jackass, that's not going to ruin it for the rest of us.
