bunnyhall_
hi hello! not sure if this is the right place to ask but my high school is participating in an initiative that queer-friendly schools do in my country and students are free to teach lessons about queer topics and im gonna try and teach about aphobia. are there any good resources about aphobia? either books, studies, videos, anything really. im definitely planning to cover the inclusion of aspec identities in the LGBTQIA+ umbrella, media representation, the denial of aspec identities and conversion therapy. thanks so much!
MattyWolfieBoy
Man, I wouldn’t know where to start. It’s quite an ambitious project. My high school would never. It’s very good at curbing bullying but the concept of queerness/queerphobia as the subject of a lesson plan would never have crossed our minds. And I myself am queer. Most schools around here try to be as utilitarian as possible because of the lack of educational benefits reaped from previous years. Though creativity classes like art, dance, music and drama have been supported by parents and students alike. Now back to your question. I’ve actually given it some effort funnily enough. For a book I’ve found "The Invisible Orientation: An Introduction to Asexuality" by Julie Sondra Decker which offers a “comprehensive” (psst that means “thorough”) look at asexuality and related issues. Welp the only websites I know is right here on AVEN. They have forums, FAQs, and articles on asexuality and aromanticism. Videos videos videos ..hmm Search up "Let's Talk About Ace" or "Ash Hardell" on YouTube! They seem promising. As for Studies and Articles on asexuality and aromanticism you can look at the Journal of LGBT Youth and "Sexualities." Yes I …believe that’s just what it is called. It’s amazing how many words people can scrounge from the Earth and make it a research paper. From almost any concept. I didnt realise people devoted themselves to certain minutiæ. Oh! I hear access to academic databases through a library could be helpful here. :3 You said Organizations? Well Groups like The Trevor Project ironically enough and GLSEN provide educational materials and support for LGBTQIA+ topics, INCLUDING aspec identities. If these don’t provide a solid foundation for your lesson. I dunno what will. Good luck with your presentation! I hope people don’t fall asleep or secretly pull out their phones like at mine ;-; #ImposterSyndrome #LivingWhilstAutistic

Alan Hydra
This is probably too late, but I'll mention this book written by a black ace woman: "Refusing Compulsory Sexuality" by Sherronda J. Brown It was an excellent eye-opening read.
