Hmmm, looks like we have people of all talents! We truly can take over the world...might need math people though. Hey, where's Josh? Josh, pick the math option!

Oh, and uh...education might be important. ^_^

I would have picked education too, if I'd had two votes. But I can't really say its my 'major' as I am not fully qualified.

But I will be a teacher in AVENus if required! :D

Excellent! Instructing the next generation of asexuals! Not sure how we'll get them...we'll adopt a whole bunch.

Any chance of changing mine, Julie?

:) Y'all caught me. All that hacker-messing-with-my-username business proved inspirational, in the end. I'd been wanting to delete the year from my username, anyway. I was going to change it to something else entirely, but I didn't have any ideas on what. So I capitalized the first letter and deleted the numbers.

I'll change your username for you, granted it doesn't screw anything in your posting up, the moment I get that particular ability. I can fix my own, but no one else's at the moment.

You can change your own username, Liver. Just go to profile and change it.

I've tried that before, and it wouldn't have it... :?

Edit: Huh! It worked this time! Is this something to do with the upgrade, or was my computer trying to make me look a fool last time?

But, hey! I got rid of my 2003!! :D

:) Oh good! I'm glad you were able to do it yourself. I know I tried to change my own a while back and it wouldn't let me, either. It was only when my name was hacked and I attempted to right it did I realize I was able to change it myself.

Our usernames look kinda naked now. Hmm.

Am I the only person on this entire forum who DIDN'T attend college?

No Greybird, you're not. I went to school for 12 years. I don't have the piece of paper because I couldn't stand to go back the next year to get the rest of the credits.

I don't know about your neck of the woods but here, in the '60s and '70s, there was no special ed. You went to the regular school, or there were two schools for the proundly retarded (it was okay to say that back then) and anyone who fell in between just slipped through the cracks. For awhile they were making kids repeat grades but then they decided that "damaged self esteem". They just passed you from grade to grade, never mind that your marks were in the low 40s, just keep 'processing' you for 12 years. The fact that you couldn't do basic math in grade 11 didn't damage self esteem at all, right?

Same as you, too that if I'd stayed for another year it would've meant staying at home, the best route for me is getting a job and that's what I've been doing ever since.

So my major? Life.

I attended college for six years, but didn't graduate--I had two years of credits left just to get a bachelors degree and quite frankly--I fucking hate school. The problem is that everyone expects you to go and get that flipping piece of paper and they look at you as if you're lazy or stupid if you don't have it. Yeah, well, I know people with masters degrees who do the exact same job I do and who get paid the same as well. So we have the same job, but I don't have $30,000 worth of school loans to pay off. I'm not bitter, though, about everyone always asking, 'When are you going back to school?' Me: Perhaps never. Them: *knowing tone* 'You'll change your mind.'

The only reason I would go back would be to shut those people up--hardly motivation.

People just always seem to have a "you'll change your mind" attitude when what they mean to say is "when will you do it my way? Don't worry, some day you'll see how great it is to be just like me."

I agree with the master's degree. I feel bad for these people who have massive loans and who worked 3 jobs to put themselves through college to be doing the same job that I'm doing...and I haven't graduated highschool.

Quite a few people ask me if I plan on upgrading but...what for? The diploma hardly means anything anymore, it's just an entry into the next phase of education.

But honestly, to the students, be they in Jr. high, highschool or college, I don't know where you guys keep all your "smart"! My head would explode if I had to carry all that smart around with me PLUS work, PLUS keep a sense of humour. No wonder we've got 23 year olds with ulcers.

  • 1 year later...

I'm a Biology major, but I'm considering a second major in Sociology/Anthroplogy.

I put my vote under "Exercise and Sport Sciences", which I felt was the closest thing. Actually, I'm an Outdoor Leadership major, which is a major that combines psychology, environmental sciences, and practical outdoor skills--backpacking, rock climbing, leave no trace camping, ropes course management, etc. I plan on being a mountain guide.

My other major (I'm a double-major) is creative writing.

I voted English, but I'm actually majoring in Language and Communication, which is basically linguistics.

I'm doing a Biology related degree (Wildlife Biology), but it's not a "major" - never heard that word around here. It's essentially the same thing, though I've heard majors are a lot more flexible (I'm thinking of all this talk about changing majors that I see sometimes)

Anyway, I don't know if I count though, because I'm freezing my studies so as to take a year out. Reasons being that I'm unhappy, confused, and I don't need a degree course cluttering up my life right about now. I can't focus on it and it's boring me anyway. Plus I've learnt that I'm nowhere near outdoorsy enough to be an ecologist.

I sometimes feel that I'd be better off sitting behind a computer all day. Nothing too different to what I do anyway, after all.

I have little choice in getting a higher education. I never really questioned the thought. I have nothing else to do with my life sort of thing. Well, I'm going to major in English...I am fairly confident in that decision. I think I'll go to school and as soon as I run out of money I'll just die, because I have no other plans.
