What's your favourite film genre?

I like science fiction, favourites being the pre-Abrams Star Trek films, the Alien franchise, and generally films that involve time travel and/or alternate universes.

My least favourite is Romantic Comedies.

Favourite: thriller, suspense, cult, scifi

Least favourite: heteronormative romance and the queer ones where one of them dies or they break up, slasher, MUSICALS, GOD I DESPISE MUSICALS, DCOMs, all those Disney live action movies labeled "family"

I don't know if it would fall under one of the other categories but I love a good dystopia or post-apocalyptic story. Give me a sci-fi dystopia and it's *chef's kiss*

Favorite: Fantasy. Give me a completely made-up universe with strange, mystical creatures and magic or weird powers, and I'm a happy elf. Some favorites are Game of Thrones, Good Omens, and if we're talking literature only (though I've both read AND watched the first two), Graceling (and its sister novels) by Kristin Cashore.

Least favorite: Action. I actually don't mind it so much if there's a good storyline, but all too often there's fighting with no story, and I get bored REALLY fast.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised romance isn't as liked on the site xD.

I can like romance but I'm particular too, I do like romance anime in any case.
I put comedy as my fave, but it can't be like a comedy drama movie, there's not enough humour in those most of the time. I want plenty of funniness :)

Favourite: Animated! Action and adventure would be my second places though

Least Favourite: My mind first went to porn (there are porn movies, right?), but that's not an option, so romance it is. I also debated for a moment putting Sci Fi in instead, but I think I feel a bit stronger about hating the romance genre in general

Almost any genre can sound bad if you pick out the bad examples.

If I'm assuming all genres are generally of similar quality, with some good movies and some not so good, I'd have to say horror is my least favorite. I can enjoy just about all of the other genres listed. I do like a good adventure film, also sci-fi, fantasy, comedy, even romance, or some mixture of any of the listed genres apart from horror (although I did like the first Mummy movie with Brendan Frazier and Rachel Weisz).

Also psychological horror. I like horror concepts and themes not just scary and violent imagery. The latter should aid the former.

Favourite: psychological thrillers, comedy, drama... and yeah, sometimes romance if it's done well.

Least favourite: science fiction and fantasy stuff (since I don't really care about anything that's pretty much entirely implausible), action.

Favourite films: Animated, action/adventure, musicals.

Least favourite: Horror (I am a huge wimp and hate anything scary) and sometimes some thriller films are too intense for me, as sometimes they border on the horror side of things.

Out of those mentioned, probably s-f.

Having said that, I can't remember when I last watched a full-length film. Must have been a few years ago. Although, surprisingly, the few films I did watch in cinema in the recent years, in the company of my mother and aunts, were almost all based on facts.

I've just noticed you have put thrillers among the options. Some of those films probably approached this line.

Lady Maria

Favourite: western, jidaigeki, historical (but it has to have good costumes), old noirs / French Poetic Realism, old expressionist silent movies

Hate: romance, comedy, anything school-related, cheap trashy horror, any kind of modernized take on a period play

I actually don't mind romance as a genre. It's romantic subplots infesting every other genre that I have a problem with.

I picked animation even though that's not a genre because they seem to be the only movies that prioritize visually coherent action these days. Can we please turn the lights on and stop cutting every 1.5 seconds and maybe also stop whispering if it's not too much to ask

I love animated (anime/manga fan *cough*), fantasy, historical and thrillers. Not sure how I feel about Noir these days. I used to love it. Scandinavian Noir when it's good is epic but these days I feel like everything is getting a bit redundant.

I can't stand romance, musical or drama. Most comedy tends to annoy me and I struggle with sci-fi. I want to like sci-fi but I generally don't.

Horrors are my most favorite ever (even though I have nightmares after them quite often 😂) and the least favorite would be romance. I'm also very picky when it comes to comedies.

Squirrel Combat

I love me a good Adventure, Drama, or Comedy.

There's no genre I dislike, but most horrors aren't well done so I don't watch horror very often.

I find both romance and comedy boring or cringeworthy, depending, and the intersection of the two is ugh-why-do-people-watch-these.  It's rare that I find comedy that actually makes me laugh.  I also avoid most horror, because it's either boring (if bad and centered around how much fake blood they could use) or messes with me (if good).

Musicals, on the other hand, I sometimes find funny even if that wasn't the intent of the people making the movie (okay, so they're bursting into song now?!)

To be honest, I don't have a favourite genre. I'll watch a bit of nearly anything, but within each genre there will be things I do/don't like.

The only big no for me is horror.

This. Situational comedy and witty dialogue are fine. Sometimes great. But slapstick of any kind leaves me utterly bemused and cold.
