Dear invitee, 

 

We invite you to participate in a research study conducted by Dr. Sandra Gavin, Dr. Jonathan Benz, and Mary Woodson. Dr. Gavin and Dr. Benz are faculty members and Mary is a doctoral student in the School of Counselor Education at Adams State University. 

 

The purpose of this study is to explore the perceptions of individuals who describe themselves as being on the asexual spectrum and have attended counseling, whether shame experiences had an influence on their therapeutic working alliance, and how these concepts played a role in the participant’s overall counseling experience. In addition, the study seeks to understand participants’ willingness to seek counseling services in the future. The intention is to assess for the perceptions and experiences of individuals who describe themselves under the asexual spectrum of identities, and if shame had an influence on their counseling experiences. This study has been approved and accepted by the Institutional Review Board at Adams State University; the IRB contact is Dr. Neil Rigsbee who can be reached at neilrigsbee@adams.edu.

 

This study involves collecting demographic information and a 60-minute interview about your experiences via phone, in-person, or through Zoom. Participation is completely voluntary, and you may withdraw from the study at any time, for any reason. The study is confidential, and your information will be coded, which means that your responses would not be linked with identifying information.

Your participation in this research will be of great importance to assist in social change in supporting adequate and effective counseling services for individuals who describe themselves under the umbrella of asexual spectrum of idenitities.
