So, do you smoke cigarettes? Did you used to smoke then quit? Are you 420 compliant? Did you try a blunt or a cigarette and after coughing profusely swore of it completely?

If you don't smoke already, don't start. If you smoke weed for medicinal purposes, then I hope it is helping. If you smoke weed recreationally, I hope you are being responsible.

My advice to young people who don't smoke, please don't start. Your health is your greatest wealth. Personally I don't have anything against people that use weed just that I don't like the smell that is the main reason why I wouldn't smoke weed myself. I remember the first time when I was younger a co worker offered me their cigarette to try, I coughed and coughed, I don't know why I kept asking to try but eventually I developed a tolerance and inevitably an addiction.

I have smoked in the past. I was never a heavy smoker, I simply did it to get a break at work as I often worked 12 hour shifts with no break (because I was always a people pleaser, and so when asked to work through lunch I did). I smoked probably 3-5 cigarettes a day for about 8 months.

Marijuana I smoked quite a bit from around 21-23, and at irregular intervals for the next few years, but haven't touched the stuff in more than 10 years.

I hate the taste and the smell from smoking, and it gets everywhere. My partner smokes (not heavily) and I can't stand the smell on them either. It is just horrid.

I have smoked weed before, last time was years ago. I have also smoked various other kinds of herbs, but now I have an herb vaporizer because inhaling pure burning stuff is not fun. But never smoked/vaped anything with nicotine. If I'm gonna have weed, I'd rather eat it.

This is the reason I never smoke in the house. Also, don't know if you've ever seen the inside of a person who smokes around their PC's machine:

@Calliersoh my god, that's horrid.

Both my parents have significant health problems from being lifelong smokers too, so it is definitely something I will not take up again.

I just do it to take the edge off, and like you did, I smoke around 3 - 8 cigarettes a day, I have friends who can easily and routinely smoke a whole pack a day though, don't understand how they do it.

I feel at 40 I have to kick this habit though, it isn't a good one, and is probably the one major vice in my life right now.

Both my parents don't drink or smoke, not for religious reasons or anything. One of my grandmothers is a chronic smoker, and my mom and I react to the smell with nausea.

Despite that, I think that I wouldn't smoke anything just because, why? Why would I do that? Caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol aren't a net positive for your mood and your body, so why would I even start? Why would I start a dependency?

Chocolate, on the other hand, I already know the taste of and eat almost daily.

Yeah, three of my brothers are all smokers, and one smokes 30-40 a day. My Mum was smoking 40 a day until she finally quite about 8-9 months ago (she still vapes).

Out of five siblings including myself, only my oldest brother has never even tried a cigarette, and only me and him don't smoke now. He's also the only one that's never tried cannabis, though as far as I am aware none of us do that now. Though my Mum does as it helps with her pain (she has a lot of physical pain due to disability).

Definitely a good idea to kick smoking if you can.

Yeah, just cigarettes currently. Didn't start until my early 30s, for... well, stupid reasons that I won't get into. I smoke fewer than I used to (probably about 2-5 a day, or zero if I'm feeling ill... down from about 12-15 😬), which is good obviously, but not really looking to quit right now. Someday, probably.

I used to smoke a fair amount of weed off and on from my mid-20s to early 30s, but it went from helping significantly with depression and motivation to being very likely to trigger panic attacks whilst also making me feel like physical shit, so I gradually just stopped. I miss it, but what I miss is when it made me feel good... and if it doesn't do that anymore, no point in smoking it. Haven't smoked regularly since 2018, just occasionally in 2019, maybe about five or six times in 2020, and not at all since. Maybe I'll give it a try again someday, maybe not.

I'm sorry to hear about your mum.... :(

Yeah, concerning smoking inside, my best friend's brother's wife was smoking inside their house and an ember fell behind the couch, caught the curtains on fire and the whole couch burned by the time they realized there was a fire (luckily they were able to put out the curtains though they had to carry out a half burning couch outside and let it finish burning outside). So now she isn't allowed to smoke inside by him and she was very sorry, he was understandably upset but those are the dangers of smoking inside.

Never! Can't stand the smell and I value my life more than anything else in the world.

I've literally bolted out of the door of a taxi before because the smell was making me hurl. And I've left restaurants because of it. I sometimes wish I actually did vomit all over the car so that they'd get the point. I can't stand the entitled attitude that some smokers have. It's not as much of an issue here in the U.S. (one of the few good things we have going on), but having lived in four different countries, I've heard everything. Some people think it should be a right to smoke. Some people think it's socially inappropriate to tell people to not smoke. Some people think smoking is an important part of socialization which is crucial to their career advancement. Like, so we're all just supposed to stand there and take it? What about people's right to breathe?

Also, when I was studying abroad in college, I put non-smoking as the number one criterion for homestays. I didn't even list it as a preference. I listed it as a necessity. And guess what? They assigned me to a smoker. It's almost like they just weren't listening...

So yeah, I'm bitter.

My Mum had managed to burn numerous scorch marks and holes in the carpets and furniture, as she has petty mal seizures and zones completely out of it, and also has a tendency to fall asleep at any moment. Their flat looks and smells gross because of the amount they smoke (well, maybe less so now she has quit, but I haven't seen her since Covid began), and around the extraction vent is all yellow from the nicotine.

That was lucky for them that they weren't harmed, and good she doesn't smoke in the house any more.

I started I think when I was 28-29. I can actually stop smoking for periods, and if there are obviously the pangs of addiction, they are not too bad. I have stronger self control.

For me I find cigarettes calm me down, and put me in a good headspace, but then again with the nicotine coating the pleasure centers in the brain, that obviously makes sense. 🤣

I always used to smoke when I was drinking, I think it’s just a bit of a cultural norm in the UK — you pop outside with your mates for a fag every so often even when you aren’t an active smoker.

I’ve never done it of my own accord though. Even when I smoked weed, it was always with mates.

On behalf of smokers around the world (entitled or not) I would like to extend my deepest apologies for how you have been treated.... 😔

I was kinda attempting it (cigs) with people I was around once but decided it wasn't for me plus it bothers my asthma. I don't even vape because it just doesn't do anything for except give me headaches

I tried vaping, but never saw the draw. Even e liquid with nicotine doesn't make me feel the same feeling that stinkies do.

All he does is sit on his PlayStation all day, smoking and playing games. Occasionally he'll make my Mum a cup of tea, and he has to cook her dinner as she is unable to, but other than that that is all he does. He'll put a cigarette out and straight away light up again.

I have asthma too, which is another reason I am glad I didn't stick with it for long.

Now that sounds majorly unhealthy.... especially if he's out of shape. 😮

I got asthma too but my smoking doesn't affect that.... sometimes your asthma can go away, and mine left me after the age of 13-14 so I never have problems smoking.

He hasn't bathed or showered or cleaned his teeth in more than 15 years, he doesn't leave the house except to get cigarettes. He has significant mental health issues like me, except I have been fighting for 20 years to get support (though it was evident when I was 8), whereas he doesn't care. He is extremely unhealthy.

I am so sorry to hear that. 🙁

Hopefully someday he can change, even if it already looks like he is beyond the point of no return....

I'm 19 and still have problems with asthma. For me it comes with excercise but usually it's something in the air like allergens, perfume, or... cigarrete smoke. I basically just stay away from everything that I can inhale because it always gives me problems.

How do I apply antiperspirant, you might ask? I hold my breath lol

Yeah, my asthma is better than it used to be, though I am still unable to run very far (not that I go outdoors very often).

My asthma does affect me but only when I have exerted myself extremely....

I keep rescue inhalers by my bed (preventer and rescue) just in case for that reason. But I can even run really fast and I'll be fine.

I smoke weed sometimes. I smoke or vape tobacco and nicotine once in a while, but have managed to avoid becoming addicted to it. I have an e-cigarette lying around somewhere, but haven’t touched it in months.

Nope. Never have, never will.

There's nothing appealing to me about smoking cigarettes or weed. The smell is just... awful. Simply smelling cigarette smoke or weed makes me gag. I can't imagine deeply inhaling that stuff. Not to mention the long term negative affects it could have on my health. I'd rather stay far away from that stuff.
