What kind of Aven user are you? (A poll to understand Aven's userbase in 2022)

I'm new here and I was curious about the userbase of Aven. ✌

 

I hope this poll can help us learn a little about our community and encourages us to bond with others.

I just joined a few days ago. I've never spoken to anyone via PM (or offsite) and have no friends on AVEN and obviously have not formed a serious romantic relationship with anyone here either. Never met anybody in person for sure. I'm here for the umm... user interface. Purple is pretty.

Well, I've been a mod and now admin for a while, so that affects some of my answers.

1. I joined in 2015, so about 7 years ago.

 

2. I am on pretty much every day. That has only been for about the last 18 months, prior to that I was on rarely.

 

3. Yes, I have communicated with approximately 7-10 other users by PM over the course of my time. Generally initiated by the other person, as I do not know the social etiqutte with regards to PM people. whereas my PM's are always open to others.

 

4. Yes, I have met several other members in person since joining, generally in group settings (i.e. meetups).

 

5. I am here to be part of the community mostly. I have never had any sort of community to be a part of, and grew up friendless, and it has been quite nice to get to know others on here and have some sort of social life, even if it is online.

5. The friends I’ve made here, the interesting discussions, occasionally giving advice to people, and that it’s a good way to kill some time. I like how tight-knit the community is here, it’s unlike any other place I’ve been online. And I’m happy to be a part of it.

5. Ehh... well, not only have I not been able to get myself off of here even when I wanted to, it's also a fine place overall. I can't say if it's worth all the bad moments (probably, I imagine), but I stick around in case I'm eventually needed.

Okay, serious answers...

 

1. I joined in 2004, 18 years ago.

 

2. Daily pretty much, although I've had periods of inactivity. I wasn't around a lot between joining in 2004 up until 2008 (one reason was I didn't have home internet access at the time, but other reasons too), I mostly buggered off part way through 2013 and didn't post too often again until someone I used to be close to kind of dragged me back in late 2014, and then I lost interest again from early 2017 to early 2018. Otherwise I've pretty much always been around.

 

3. Hard not to have exchanged many PMs after 18 years. I definitely don't do private chatting as much as some people do, though. And anyone I become especially close to, we generally have other offsite ways of contacting each other.

 

4. Yep. I've been to a few group meetups (not recently; last time was 2014), I used to be married to someone who was once a regularly active member, had another umm... relationship with someone, and met my current partner here and we having visiting plans for the summer (and much further down the line when we sort out the many many many details lol, living together plans). But yeah, I'm willing to get together with anyone I've become some degree of close to.

 

5. I can't leave. I'm not even kidding. #attachmentissues

2. I was pretty heavily around - especially in the old chat - from about 2013-2016.  Since then I tend to come and go in spurts although I tend to do more reading/lurking since the chat seemed to disappear a couple of years back.

 

3. I've sent/received a number of PMs over the years. Mostly they were more focused to a specific topic than general chatting though.

 

4. I've been to a few meetups over the years and am hoping to do so again if the pandemic ever makes it feasible again. I've also stayed with/visited people I met here when I was travelling a few years back.

 

5. I like having the community and as mentioned before am hoping that in-person meetups will become a thing again one day.

I don't know what PM stands for, let alone how to PM. I just really wish that I could meet someone who I can come in contact with on a regular basis who is like-minded with me.

I "othered" several times because I've been on AVEN for about 15 years now and 2+ years seemed almost...like not the truth.  I'm here every day and do enjoy the community, but I'm also on because I learn so much from other AVENites in various fields -- all sorts of scientific subjects, especially.  I wasn't able to go to university, so listening to people who have is great.

Don't remember how long I've been here. Over two years I think. My visit rate varies. Can be once or twice a day for every day of the week or a few days or weeks of silence, depending. Rarely do I get PMs, over the timespan I've been here I'd say around ten to twelve users I've chatted with. I met one Avenite in person.

 

Truth be told I'm not entirely sure. I keep tabs on a few people here, and this is pretty much the only place left on the net that I visit frequently. I think it's a habit, mainly. If I ghost this place I'd terminally fall into permanent solitude methinks.

1. I joined in summer 2020 (and actually can't believe that's nearly 2 years now).

2. How often I am on here varies on my mood and how busy I am - I usually check it at least once a day, though.

I think there were additional circumstances that messed that up for your account.

 

I know it's correct for others, such as myself. My join year is 2009 and I'm pretty sure you had already been here for a while when I joined.
