From what I’ve seen, and my own experiences, it seems like most people who have had an obsession with Snape have issues with their relationships with their fathers.

I am conducting research to affirm or deny this guess, your private business is none of my concern, so you don’t have to answer the second half of the poll if you don’t want to, I know it’s an odd research question.

What an oddly specific theory... 🧐

I haven't ever read any Harry Potter books, I've seen one of the films ages ago, and I barely remember who Severus Snape even is.

Relationship with my dad is somewhere between ehhh and bad, I guess.

Alan Rickman  :P (I agree with the Cinema Therapy guys that Rickman made Snape more likeable than the character otherwise was)

I wouldn't say Snape is likeable and I certainly never had an obsession with him, based on the books or the films. My relationship with my dad is not great but not terrible. Not close though, that's for sure.

Same here.

But my relationship with my dad is not even good. It's great.

To be fair oddly specific theories are the best kind of theories.

Ya know, can't dispute that one.

It's difficult for me to answer this because I like Snape in the sense that he's a great character and interesting from a plot/psychological standpoint, but he is a despicable person and I certainly don't like him as a human being.

The only problem now is I haven’t found enough people who’ve had Snape obsessions to see if there is a connection or not lol

I pretended to have a Snape obsession only to fit in with my friends but I never really liked him and saw him as having good potential for grey characters or ones struggling to do what's right genuinely but ultimately had trashy character development and all the toxic bad disgusting things he did gets ignored and he magically gets promoted to hero 😤. Tho Alan Rickman did good to make him more likeable and easierto sympathize with . My relationship with my dad is fairly well

Yeah, I have to admit I only liked movie Snape because of the depth Alan Rickman portrayed him in. His redemption arc was written poorly. I just finished reading Frankenstein, and I see parallels in the “everybody hates me so now I hate everybody” leading to destruction, but I like how Frankenstein was written better because it never tried to justify the monster’s wrong actions. A redemption arc for Snape with him just dying as a sacrifice in the end felt like kind of a let down.

I like to imagine a better one so i can ignore it, since he was a fictional character in the first place.

Also the fact that the movies completely removed Severus's bullying of anyone other than Harry whereas in the books, he was terrible to other students too.

That said, I recently did a persuasive speech on why Severus Snape is one of the best literary characters of the 20th century. Not to say he's a good person, he's a grey person. But he is one of the best written characters ever, IMO.

That's oddly specific. No obsession with Snape. Terrible relationship to 'father'. Granted, I've never been a 'Potterhead' to begin with.

I wouldnt say i had an obsession with Snape or liked his character necessarily. I watched all the movies as a kid and I just remember liking the way he looked, but I didnt really like how mean he was from what I remember or most of the stuff he did.

Spoiler

I did sorta cry when his death scene happened after learning how much of a jerk harry's father was to him and everything.

My relationship with my dad is ehh.
