Which graphics card are you rocking in your PC? I currently have a ASUS TUF Gaming Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 OC Edition 12GB in my rig and it is doing well for me so far, I love Nvidia nowadays but used to be an ATi/AMD kinda guy back in the day.... I remember switching to Nvidia I didn't think that you could have an AMD processor and a Nvidia graphics card in the same system but the two of them actually seem to play ball quite nicely together.... :)

How about you, what have you got lurking in your system? And why? ^_^

I actually had a MSI Ventus RTX 2080 before this card so I know that it's still a pretty good card, could play anything I through at it and at the time I had a 2K monitor, although this RTX 3080 I have now is great when it comes to playing games at 4K so yeah, unless you want to play 4K games with Ray Tracing on, the RTX 2080 Ti is a beast of a card still.... :)

It's in system information, just do what I taught you @Blue eyes white dragon. ;)

And I would like to propose that this is the best graphics card of all time to come out, the Bitchin' Fast 3D 2000:

Sounds good, I'll remind you on instagram if you forget.... also, once you finish your internship with me young padawan you will be a proper PC techie! :D

BTW the Video Loca Bitchin' Fast 3D 2000 actually exists for those of you that may doubt it!

GeForce GTX 1050, from Gigabyte.  Not the greatest card of its generation, but sufficient unto my needs for the moment.  I've been mixing nVidia video cards with AMD processors since before AMD bought ATI.  My laptop also has that hardware combination (specifically, it has an Athlon64x2 TK-53 CPU and a video card from the GeForce 6 generation).

Driver considerations for non-integrated video under Linux are complicated.  On the one hand, I can still use that ridiculous laptop with a modern kernel because someone went to the trouble of reverse-engineering a driver for the video card (nVidia desupported that generation of cards more than five years ago).  On the gripping hand, I have this weird issue with some OpenGL shaders on my primary machine that I've been unable to figure out.  Shrug.

(Anyone need a Cirrus SVGA card for VESA bus with 1MB of onboard RAM?  I have one of those, too.  Should offer it to a museum.  🤣 )

So you use Linux not Windows? Interesting....

I remember at one point I owned like 6 or 7 computers at once, but now I just have the one, had two until a couple months ago, sold my laptop and will be replacing it when the RTX 4000 series comes out so yeah.... :D

My work computer has Windows 10 (which I utterly loathe), but my own machines have been Linux-only for more than 15 years now.  Well, okay, the desktop previous to this one inherited a primary hard drive with a Windows 2000 partition that I was too lazy to wipe.  I booted it only once, mostly to see if it would work (given that Windows is not fond of being transplanted between hardware).  Surprisingly, it made it all the way to the desktop without a single complaint—I guess going from an Athlon64 to a Phenom II wasn't enough to break it.

Yeah, I can understand that.  I pretty much can't game—not only are my reflexes deteriorating with age, but a lot of 3D games make me motion-sick (yes, that's just normal 3D, not VR), and AAA games tend to be in genres not of interest to me anyway.  I do collect a certain number of mostly turn-based indies whose use of video doesn't render me nauseous.

Yes, I can totally understand this, if I play racing games all day, the way the car moves gives me a headache after several hours because it looks as if it is swinging in a curvature from side to side. Sometimes I find that with age I'm starting to move my head from side to side in racing games as well as the car turns...

I'm still in my 30s but I really don't know if I'll be able to play as many games as I do during old age, I have a feeling I might not. But by then I should have a bit of retirement cash so I will try and take life easy and just enjoy nature and the great outdoors instead. :)

Oh! That is on board graphics but it still counts! Which reminds me, Intel is about to enter the actual video card scene pretty soon, I'm definitely looking forward to what they have to bring to the table! :D

No, it is correct, that is what makes your PC have video, but since it is not actually a "dedicated" card we refer to it as "on board" because it shares the same circuit board as the motherboard. I hope you follow me... you did well! :D 10/10!

I actually never used an AMD card and I don't even know much about those....though I probably should, as I'm a developer specializing on GPGPU and such.

But I also never bought a graphics card on my own, so...
Though usually Nvidia keeps to have more features usually the last years, also having such things like CUDA.

Oh and currently I got the following graphic cards:

Intel On-Board and Geforce 880M on my laptop
RTX 2080 on my gaming PC.

All computers have a 'about your PC' feature, where the components are listed it may be called 'my computer' on older windows OS's when typing in the search feature.  But the older school out there this Run Command or Search may still work, find what's called DxDiag then details are there too :P  Save that as a text file, then there's everything in there, including any Display, Sound or DirectX problems.

I typically stick with nVidia. No particular reason, aside from the actual differences for me not really mattering and just being more familiar with the ecosystem, standards, software, etc.

Definitely AMD--better compatibility with Linux.

I'm very interested in what Intel puts out for the same reason.

I'm just excited because it will mean cheaper video card prices, which for me, is what I'm more interested in. Even if their cards aren't the best - if they are cheaper, I will build an all Intel system just to take advantage of the savings on my pocket, I'm tired of spending nearly 2000 dollars every time I get a new video card.

I remember these adds  for 3dfxs Voodoo cards, so cool, then they got bought out by Nvidia, it's cool that we're going to have Intel joining the fray now. ^_^

Same lol. I know almost nothing about computer hardware or software or anything much about computers at all really and I don't want to. 🙃 I mean I know how to do basic shit on one, but that's good enough for me.

A basic shit is a quick and easy defecation. An advanced shit is the kind that requires strategic planning on how you’re going to get yourself to the toilet and then when you get there, it’s both painful and relieving.
