Hallucigenia
AVEN DIGEST for the week of April 24-30 This thread will be de-stickied in four days (or earlier, I guess, if the mods don't like it) and (if people find it useful) replaced with a new one in one week. Its purpose is to keep an index of the important goings-on at AVEN, since it has come to my attention that some people have trouble keeping track. Please use the linked-to threads to comment on particular events, and this thread only for discussing the digest itself and its usefulness or lack thereof. Visibility Opportunities New Zealand asexuals are desparately needed for a 20/20 special on asexuality: http://asexuality.org/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=23325 UK asexuals are continuing to organize to attend National Student Pride in June. http://asexuality.org/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=23079 Controversies Echidna has suggested a new section of static content directed towards professionals, explaining what we believe they can do to assist asexuals. While some AVENites like the suggestion very much, others believe that it oversteps the bounds of our authority as non-professionals. http://asexuality.org/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=23355 Stupendous Sam has suggested that the PT or mods should do something to consolidate important current information in one place. While some AVENites have responded favorably (including with the creation of this digest), others believe that enough has already been done to make AVEN events accessible http://asexuality.org/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=23375 Lehcar has suggested creating a "Younger Asexuals" forum to balance out the "Older Asexuals" forum. http://asexuality.org/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=23275 Project Team events Trip has suggested registering AVEN as a trademark. http://asexuality.org/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=23374 Other The deadline for submissions to Issue #7 of AVENues is tomorrow. http://asexuality.org/discussion/viewtopic.php?p=639884

Brodertun
Stupendous Sam has suggested that the PT or mods should do something to consolidate important current information in one place. While some AVENites have responded favorably (including with the creation of this digest), others believe that enough has already been done to make AVEN events accessible What others? If you are referring to me, I think its obvious in that thread that I agree with improvements being made - I've offered suggested on them, and have not said there isn't room for improvement. My problem is with the people who admit they can't be bothered to so much as scan announcement titles, complaining that they are mising announcements and should be specially catered to as a result. - obviously if you aren't willing to look in the announcement section, you really have no basis to complain you are missing announcements. That's the same position Amcan was taking - if someoen isn't willing to take any responsibility to find information, they shouldn't be complaining about not having information. Treating them like babies isn't going to help matters either because 1) its not our responsibility to force people ito announcements, and 2) they've already made it clear they have no intention of reading announcements. Cicero
Ooh, good idea. It's nice to have a quick round-up of what's going on. At least one of those stories I hadn't come across, and it's good to have a summary of what has been said in the threads too.
cijay
This is a great idea. While some people have a lot of time to sift through every thread, some of us have lives. Sometimes life gets busy. It's not a matter of can't be bothered, call it babying if you want but every now and again I forget to check the category. I miss announcements, threads get hijacked into yet another whinefest about the definition of asexuality, the triangle, official colour someone gets owly because their type doesn't end up as an option on a poll. The digest will be like an index that I can quickly scroll through it.
ily
I like this. Would have been great in my days before I had internet in my house, when I could only get on Aven twice a week or so...

Hallucigenia
I think this is cool, Hallu, if you're up for it- I know this is another added thing on your schedule. :) It's okay. It's a slightly different version of a kind of sweep that I'm really supposed to do anyway for the news section of AVENues. If anything, it'll make my job a little easier. Aaaaand... de-stickying. I really appreciate all your feedback, guys. Look for another one on Monday.
