For those who open Christmas presents, when do you open them? I've seen different families do things differently and I'm wondering what's most common for folks here.

Christmas morning, after breakfast and going through stockings.

Christmas eve, in the evening, because the main event of Christmas is on the 24th in the evening, instead of some countries/cultures where it's on the 25th. As a child, I got presents from family (aunts/uncles and grandparents) and they were opened on the 25th, which is mainly reserved for (extented) family visits. So I voted 'other' 🙂

This is exactly what my family does. A smaller family gathering on Christmas Eve when most of the presents are opened, and then a larger gathering Christmas Day with a few smaller presents between extended family.

ld always go to both set of Grandparents houses on Christmas Eve and open presents and then stay home on Christmas itself and open the gifts we had under the tree at home.

Christmas Eve we open gifts from friends, siblings, and extended family, Christmas Day is for "Santa gifts", which are primarily gifts from my mom. :P She still likes to be Santa, no matter how old us kids are!

I clicked on I don't celebrate Christmas for many reasons. One is the obvious (I'm not a Christian) and the other one is that I haven't exchange gifts for the Christmas/New Year's Eve holidays since... centuries ago. Just wanted to share that in Greece which has a lot of christian orthdox we do the gifts under the tree on New Years Eve since January first it's the name day of the saint of gifts. * In Greek tradition, Basil brings gifts to children every January 1 (St Basil's Day)* from wikipedia.

Usually some on Christmas Eve and some on Christmas morning, especially if we’re going to someone’s house on Christmas Eve. This year I’m hanging out with family on Christmas Eve and opening presents they give me at their house. Then tomorrow morning I’m opening the presents I have at my place that were either from my dad or were mailed to me.

When I was a kid we often stayed home on Christmas Eve, but my parents would let me open one present on Christmas Eve before I went to bed. I’d probably open one of the presents my dad got for me if I wasn’t going anywhere tonight.

In Christmas Day.  My parents in their youth have the presents open Boxing Day instead.

I don't personally observe or celebrate Christmas for mostly that I'm not Christian and how it is a mad economic rush of all things.  I also have medical health preference not to indulge in the food, going vegetarian, the excessive sugar or alcohol any longer.

Christmas day unless my grandparents are going out of town and they'll come over to say goodbye and watch us open what they got us

When I remember I have them ;)

Well Christmas day in the afternoon. Last year I think it was 2pm.

For my last birthday, I had forgotten and it was 2 days later than I remembered about presents

As a child; family gifts on christmas eve, Santa gifts on christmas day.

Haven't had any gifts in decades.

We usually open (most of) the presents on Christmas itself, in the late morning/early afternoon after breakfast. Mind you, I'm not sure we would be paying that much attention to the holiday if not for how there are a few kids in our extended family.

I don't ask for much these days... my parents must be relieved, given how long my lists used to be. (Also, right before I submitted this, my mom mentioned that I would sometimes present them a week before.) I'm sure most people go through that phase, at least before they become less materialistic and/or able to just go and buy things they want themselves.

If friends set up a Xmas party to exchange presents, at the party.  Otherwise, when they arrive.  I seldom open presents on Xmas day, although this year, someone I admire in a Platonic way gave me some chocs, so I avoided looking too closely at them when I received them and have saved them for whenever I wake up on Xmas morning (or afternoon: I've drunk way too much whiskey tonight).

Well when I was a kid, my mum and dad always gave me a book as a Christmas Eve thing, so I'd open that on the 24th. Otherwise Christmas Day, though.

I'm tempted to open the stuff she sent me this year as soon as it hits midnight lol. I'll be up well into the wee hours, so. Maybe I'll resist... or not. 🙃

The only other presents I've got this year are stuff from my partner, but right now they're somewhere over the Atlantic. I haven't even got everything I plan to send him yet, but whatevs. As far as I'm concerned, it's still Christmas as long as it's winter lol.

Any presents I will open at some point Christmas Day. I don't get many, as I don't have a lot of people in my life, and have never really cared for Christmas.

I always have specific Christmas Eve gifts that me and my kid open (normally it's Christmas pajamas, a book, and possibly a pair of warm socks).  The rest of the presents we open at our family Christmas celebration with my siblings & parents, generally between breakfast and Christmas dinner.

It's more of a religious family thing

We get our gifts on new years day

Christmas is like one present and New Years day is like at least twice that
