Hi all!

I'm pleased to announce that International Asexuality Day will be held on 6 April!! This is a coordinated international campaign from ace groups around the world, including AVEN (but not only AVEN - we are just one participating organisation). The themes are Advocacy, Celebration, Education and Solidarity, for the entire ace spectrum including demisexual, grey-A and other ace identities - especially (though not exclusively) from non-Western and/or non-Anglophone countries. We have ace organisations on board from every inhabited continent, and are adding more all the time!

Hello!

We’re excited to announce International Asexuality Day (IAD), a coordinated worldwide campaign for ace advocacy, celebration, education and solidarity, which will take place annually on April 6th. International Asexuality Day celebrates the full asexual spectrum: asexual, greysexual, demisexual, and all other ace identities, and it’s designed to promote the work of ace advocates, especially in non-anglophone and/or non-Western countries, though everyone is welcome to take part!

Primarily, the focus will be on local events, led by organisations in the relevant areas. See https://internationalasexualityday.org/en/local/ for a list of the organisations involved in the planning, along with contact information and how to get involved or receive further local information.

IAD is new and it's designed to complement (not compete with) Ace Week, which is at the end of October. Some countries needed a focal point in the first half of the calendar year for various reasons. Also IAD will have a much more explicit emphasis on non-English speaking and non-Western outreach, though everyone is included!

See the FAQ (on the website and on facebook) for more on this!

I'm pleased to know there are events like this. Also followed on Twitter. Which country will hold the event?

Every country that wants to! It's a day especially for local advocacy. There isn't one central event (like a conference) but probably lots of local events around the world. Of course we expect some events to be online, especially during these times where physical meetings are difficult...

How do I participate in this?

Glad you asked, @Naiwen!

So at the moment, you can help by following and reblogging on whatever platforms you have, and helping spread the word, so we can build up our support base.

Second, you might like to reach out to the organisations listed in your country. (I don't know where you're from.) See this page:

https://internationalasexualityday.org/en/local/

This gives more about the country's plans and how you can contact the organisers.

I expect over the next month there will be more specific events announced for the day (from various countries, including shared events), and so keep an eye out!

If your country isn't listed, you might like to see if your country has any ace advocacy groups (or start one yourself!?) and ask if they can get on board with IAD. They can contact the team at internationalasexualityday@gmail.com.

I hope that helps! :cake:
